Peyton Manning threw a record-tying seven touchdown passes tonight. Who said that thirty-something guys are over the hill? Maybe I should reconsider a career in baseball or boxing....when pigs fly. Still, never discount seasoned athletes.

Campsie's QB in her fantasy league? Peyton Manning! ahhh sweet. I  was going crazy last night. He was projected to get 19 but raked up 52 points. Only thing was, I had Wes Welker for 3 years and this year didn't pick him. The "experts" advised he was too old too. And I should have taken him when I could have. I am greedy, I know. But as the only gal in the league, I really try to hold my own. I usually do ok.

Thanks, Yorkie, but I've tried there.  Not available - and the Dorman part number is not the correct sensor for my pedal.  I think I have the early version.

Actually, counselor, there is quite a difference between "keeping their wallets shut and not taking on debt" and buying shit loads of foreign cars.  When it comes to fruity legerdemain vis a vis Granny Smiths, you are the undisputed king of the bodega.  How do you like them apples?
Sorry, I maintain the economy is an absolute disaster, regardless of the fact that people have got to buy something to drive. That's a tiny bit of silver lining in a black sky.

(BTW, that's really a pretty good post you did: "Undisputed king of the bodega" - I like it!)

Glad you had a chuckle instead of taking offense, that's what I was shooting for.

Another artifact from the road:
Sometimes you get lucky with who you run into. Case in point; So the other day, while on the road between Nowhere and some other place, ran into a friend who just returned from South of the equator. How much time do you think passed before this genuine 100% Bolivian Coca and sugar candy accidentally fell in my mouth?  That's a condor on the package. Thank you Evo Morales!

I'm glad I had my camera with me on the way home tonight.  The mouth of the bay with salmon skiffs in foreground.

Just read a report about NAACP president and CEO Benjamin Jealous stepping down. There's a patriarchal lineage with the surname of "Jealous" that has not legally changed their name?  Are there also Lust, Greed, Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, and Pride families running around spawning?

Okay, you've gotten two literal lulz from me tonight; a third is a hat trick.

Yeah well your "quality kumbaya time" quip made me leak a little.

No, it's Chambers Bay in Steilacoom, WA.

Charlie Pride? My parents liked classic country.

Eddie Coyle

Bashar al-Assad and Larry Bird have the same upper lip/moustache.

Yeah, I thought it sent the wrong message to have someone named Oliver Q. Fornicator as the spokesman for such a major organization.

It's still not as bad as Lipschitz. Or the parents whose surname is 'Head' and who name their child Richard. Ah, brings back memories of a great SNL sketch - the Asswipe family.

I'm watching the weather channel, and I lose the signal because of the weather. Things should not work this way.

I can call on the telephone right now a Certified Financial Planner by the name of "Richard Head", who is well known in my area. I guess he decided name recognition worked more for him than the mockery quotient hurt him.

I have a theory that people who name their kids thusly are conflicted about said kids and therefore exhibit passive-aggressive naming tendencies, unless of course it's Richard Head, Jr, in which case Dad is just a plain ol' sadist.

What kind of bastard would it take to name his kid thus so he could call him "Little Dick Head"?

The only plus to that is Jr can refer to him as "Big Dick Head".

The first family car I recall is my parents' round, bulky 1954 Chevrolet...

And today I see the new Lexus LF-NX...

I have thus officially reached the precise point where on first viewing a vehicle my sense of strangeness, confusion and fear of my incompetence to operate it is the same as would have been that of a driver who had known and driven nothing but the Model T, upon first being shown the new Corvette Stingray in 1953. Holy crap, my most recent vehicle is a 2004 Tahoe. I am truly concerned I will soon not know how to operate many of the features of a new automobile.

Be careful, Sardoni. The rumor is you can connect to the interwebs from them new-fangled cars too. Heck, some of them are so quiet you don't even know if they're turned on or not. Please be safe out there.

Wow, the Jersey Shore has had a rough couple of summers..

I thought Arnold Rothstein or Charlie Luciano might have been sending Nucky Thompson a message, but then I saw it wasn't the boardwalk in Atlantic City, but in Seaside Park, NJ.

I was relieved to know the terrifying Mr. Harrow's deadly expertise wouldn't be necessary to set things right.

Speaking of Boardwalk Empire, Steve Buscemi, pasty-faced, skinny as a rail, with his thyroid-condition bug-out eyes and snaggled teeth, has to be the homeliest leading man in a successful series since James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano. Plus he's actually got a pretty bad Sylvester the Cat side-of-the-tongue splutter-lisp too, and a bobbing Adam's apple that would rival that of Don Knotts, whom Buscemi resembles and even sounds like a little. Talk about overcoming some hurdles. He's a classic character actor who has parlayed his acting chops into leading roles. He's one hell of an actor to overcome what in the Hollywood world very well could have been disqualifying handicaps to be considered near the top of the A-list for top-drawer boutique and "passion" projects requiring real acting skill. Other actors get the calls for the massive-budget CG explosion fests written for handsomely craggy Bruce Willis types: Stephen gets the scripts about the real world inhabited by the homely and plain.

BTW, IMO the most repugnant character in a series replete with them: Gretchen Mol as the truly chilling Gillian Darmody, a mother so manipulative, loveless and ice-hearted as to be worthy of the pen Shakespeare or even Greek Myth. She is as heartless and as incapable of love or basic human warmth as Richard III; as stiff-spined and committed to winning the crown as Lady Macbeth; and as willing to take her son as a lover as Jocasta, mother of Oedipus (who fared about as well as Gillian's lover-son, the late Jimmy Darmody). A wretched woman whose manipulations must be seen to be believed.

Well, didn't mean to go off on BE. I feel as unwillingly drawn to watching it as I do Breaking Bad, full as both are of repulsive characters. In Boardwalk it's characters like brothers Nucky and Eli Thompson, one who constantly humiliates and demeans his brother, until the other sets his brother up to be killed; any of the other gangsters (ugh, the creepy hyena-laugh of the greasy weasel, Mickey Doyle, or the astonishingly broad array of sexual perversion portrayed by a whole host of oher killers) the guilt-crippled heartlessness of the automaton-like Nelson Van Alden, aka "George Mueller"; the offensive self-righteous of the hypocrite-in-chief, Margaret Rohan Schroeder Thompson; the grasping ingratitude and childish impatience of Jimmy Darmody; the animal-like qualities of young Alphonse Capone, and so one). The only character I recall of the top of my head with any true nobility and honor is poor Eddie Kessler, Nucky's valet, the German ex-soldier from the trenches of WWI, who is loyal to Nucky to death and beyond. If there is some backstory which explains the source of Eddie's loyalty to Nucky, I don't know what it is. But 30-50 characters or even more so far, and only one or two with redeeming characteristics? I should quit now and let the Angel of Death take AC like Sodom and Gomorrah.
