There is no reason why we need some elaborate software and machinery for something as simple as a vote. And need to outsource to all these questionable companies. Unless there is another reason to do so. And possibly why it appears the majority of politicians, in both Parties, want to see these complaints and stories 'go away' and call it 'fake news.'  Imagine how many Bond issues, local elections, judicial elections on a more State/Local/City level might have used these potentially hackable or easily manipulated voting systems and software.

I was just talking to my folks about when my dad was precinct committeeman for Goldwater (AuH20!) had a caucus in the living room (for which my mom baked a kringle) and walked the whole thing doorbelling with a list of who voted, compared results with election day to see how he did getting out the vote, and I think that was just the primary.  I am sure there are people from both parties who do that now at the precinct level even faster, so the idea that it could all go off somewhere and be manipulated without anyone noticing is pretty far-fetched.  Precincts are not that big.

But, I agree, the more locally organized, with different machines, and the more people involved in the process, getting in fisticuffs over wayward markings and going out for beers after, the better.  We should be afraid of black-box data processing for something this important.

Kringle might be interpreted by the political opponents as a bribe. If not possible to manipulate than why the complex software, outsourcing to companies foreign, and changing machinery so often? Excepting the usual government graft and some contracts for investments in certain companies, etc. Voting should be pretty straight forward.

Personally I want to make a law that if a bond package for a certain deal doesn't pass it can't be brought up again for X number of years. I'm sick of the EU-esque state of affairs here where the voters will vote something down and then it just pops up next year. "Let the people vote, over and over and over, and even use government funds to support an issue until they vote the "right way" mentality.

The guy who stole RCH's radio show name- that doesn't happen more often than happens- The Other Side of Midnight went on a rant last night because NYC, I think it could've been the State, was trying to get ranked voting system and the politicians were complaining that it would 'hurt minorities.' As he pointed out, pretty condescending to claim that 'minorities' can't make a list. He also had some interesting political anecdotes about how voting works up there.

I envision the Kraken doing something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkcDoUE8_Ec

Of course, that is actually Cthulu out campaigning for his "Cthulu 2016:  Why vote for the lesser evil" campaign.

I did not notice that much active campaigning from his faction this year...  huh.  Maybe I was too busy with the

campaign?

Nautical Shore, but I will also treat Cthulu graciously once he kneels before me shirtless and weeping in defeat.

Heck, I might invite him to the Inauguration & Old Number 6 Squaredance after-party!

I wonder if Cthulu likes plums?

I don't know, but I suspect it is simply a data problem.  All those neat interactive maps they show on election night, where the reporter dude rolls up his sleeves to prepare for the brutal workout of pinching and zooming, rely on rapid aggregation of numbers in a standardized data format, and that kind of technology is probably only realistic to implement at the county level in an urban environment, some rural counties probably not at all.

Then of course you have the problem where county management changes and every new manager seizes on new systems and software to try to look like he is doing something -- it is a universal trope in the software industry -- and no real incentive not to, since they are not paying for it.  Plus now you need to offer it in at least 25 languages including at least 10 varieties of chingchong as well as reasonably fluent mujahideen, which cuts your list of providers down considerably.  This is a fairly recent phenomenon.  When I first voted here in the tech powerhouse of Seattle they were still using punchcard technology (like the infamous hanging-chad stuff) that dated at least from the 70s, if not earlier.

True that MSNBC guy on Adderall, or worse, needs his digital maps. Why not just wear short-sleeves instead of the rolll up facade of 'now I'm working?" I will leave to the fashion expert.

I agree about software, even hardware, needing always upgrades. Unnecessary often but for keeping revelant and not just a cost-center. But government, by design, -I might sound leftist here- shouldn't be about profit or protecting/expanding budgets and power. The phrasing of 'shareholders.,' PPPs, and such you hear is always troubling. As is the idea of positive law and such reliance on Courts- so that politicians can avoid issues or stances.

Voting should only be done in English. And braile or spoken English. Except for Indians (feather not dot) on their certain lands.

You mean stakeholders?  Yeah I hate that stupid MBA talk and refuse to use any of those terms they come up with.

Short-sleeve shirts make you look like a dork.  Unless you are hot, in which case you look like a hot guy dressed like a dork.  Or a Mormon Elder.

I am really not in any kind of position to argue with this kind of bigotry and prejudice... but I am willing to be.

If Trump was serious about fixing this shit he would declare Martial Law and install a strict, brutal and efficient Military Governor in the state of Kansas.

Most patetriots tend to ”Blame Kansas” rather than "Trust Kansas.”

As a proud Missourian, I could begin the process of taking Kansas apart piece by piece in search of those behind this anti-American vote switchery.

I am certain I could ”git 'er done” well before I am sworn in as the rightfully elected POTUS.  I would, of course, have less than 100 days to accomplish that:  it will not be pretty, but I would do it anyway to heal the nation.

You can take that to the bank!
