Going to snow here in Raleigh

Looking at perhaps 8 to 12 inches.  Last time Raleigh got a little snow, the city didn't handle it well

Ciardelo

We got our first light dusting of snow today here in Tulsa. They closed the schools which was a smart move. Stay warm!

Juan

I put on a pair of long britches.

Still alive.   Turned out to be more sleet than snow so got down right icy when the temps plunged.

However, no major goat screw like last time.  I've lived here along time now but the freak out when
a little snow happens never ceases to amaze me.   It's like - "dudes - the grass is still sticking up
out of the snow - it ain't that bad,  honest - really it's not"

An ice storm is usually a lot worse than a good snow storm, for driving, power outages, downed tree limbs, slip and falls, etc.

Uncle Duke

In the winter of 1976/77, I was working as a co-op student at Vought Aerospace in Grand Prairie, TX, between Dallas and Ft Worth. The region got hit with a combo ice/snow storm that was, by Ohio standards underwhelming, but quite a problem there.  The whole Metroplex basically shut down due to sleet that evolved into about four inches of snow.

No one had windshield ice scrappers. I saw people trying to scrap ice from windshields with kitchen spatulas, a garden hoe, a Bowie knife, and a 2x4.  I watched one genius pour a large pot of boiling water directly onto his windshield, with disastrous results.  The funniest memory of that day was watching four guys from the road department putting sand on the road, one shovel at a time, from the back of a dump truck.
