In the end ( as we know it) - it's all about the living.  Will acknowledging past greatness make us, the living, feel less loss?  Do the awards for the dead teach something about what we value?

I disagree. I am a big fan of 48 hours murder mysteries and I saw how a cold case was solved 15 years later - a female dental student had been raped and killed by her ex-boyfriend, who went on to graduate and set up a big dental practice. He killed his wife and the connection was found between the two murders. They awarded her a degree in memoriam (the girlfriend from 1988). Good! If you're referring to Heath Ledger, I think his performance was great. It was the entire movie, actually. He saved that movie, which was bound to be a large piece of crap sans Heath. So in this case, YES. Give him an award.

That said, he did a good job in The Dark Night, but he hardly was a shinning light to society if anything give him the Darwin award.

It's very easy to scoff at "accidental" an overdoses - but are you saying they never happen?

As for Ledger's death - my own assumption (for what it's worth) has been that if he wanted to kill himself, he'd have taken a lot more of the drugs than he did - to be sure.

He did nothing to piss me off I just do not think it was such a great loss as most people seem to think.

Accidental? Intent follows the path of the bullet (in this case prescribed drug(s)) that may or may not have been issued to him and used outside of prescribed instructions, hence, intent.

God damn it. I can't disagree with you on this. When you have a kid, things are DIFFERENT. Your life/behavior must change to accommodate that child.

It's not 1850. There is contraception, but there's little caring anymore. But Heath's dead and everyone claims he was a fantastic father, so I won't knock him. One other reason I think he deserves this award is he made a TON of money for all parties involved. NOT TO MENTION, he made fans very happy. Though it's troubling to see this mall cop movie as number one (beverly hills chihuahua is troubling too).
