And there are weird genetic anomalies with a lot of the Hemingway cats so that they have extra toes (polydactylism) and so make better mousers, supposedly.

That's right! They look like they have thumbs  :D
I had never thought about the effect on mousing but that makes sense

From Ernest Hemingway's house in Key West. His house is now a museum and contains his original furniture and the descendants of his pet cats. A truly beautiful place. It was really something walking into the master bedroom and seeing a cat sitting right in the middle of Hemingway's bed, licking itself.

I just found out about Demodex mites. I feel like I need to shave my entire body, leap in to a tub of gasoline and light myself on fire, then douse myself with Lysol once the flames subside.

WOW - I haven't even bothered to tune in to Snoory for the last few months, but wanting some low brow entertainment, I checked out KLIF last night (the C2C affiliate down here in the DFW area), and C2C is GONE. It's been replaced by something called the John Batchelor show. It's a bit of a shame, really. It shows how far the show has fallen.  :-\

Why is it that "critically acclaimed" movies so often suck?

These last few posts were wonderful, but they were neither random, nor stupid. now THIS is random and stupid:

That's hardcore, is what that is.

Even more interesting is what is Noory doing WHILE he is in the middle of an interview.
Often you can hear background noise of him clicking keys on his computer, probably googling all the time to loook up  some reference the guest is talking about or find info on an actor or movie that he thinks relates.
Notice tonight he plugged an upcoming taped interview with actor Gary Sinese (that Noory always calls Lt. Dan) to be broadcast later this week?
One time I swore I could hear him writing something as the guest was talking. Images of a tiny pink diary filled with unicorn doodles immediately flooded my mind.

I'm actually not exaggerating or trying to be funny . . . sometimes George Noory sounds like a guy with emphysema who just woke up . . . his voice is all phlegmy and disgusting, and for some reason when he's like that, he has to say a lot of words with "p" sounds that make it even more noticeable . . . and/or he talks about "soup" and the combination of sound and image is almost unbearable.  When he says "Ugh," he does it with such slurry emphasis that one can hear the mucous welling up in his throat, and it actually makes me quesy.  I'm willing to accept I'm being too sensitive unless someone else has a similar gag-worthy experience . . .
Ugh! You noticed it too! The way he says "program" particularly bothers me. I can almost picture this little slimy, phlegmy creature bursting up out of his throat a la "Alien."

"Robin! Honey, come in here, quick!"
"Yes dear, what is it Richard C.?"
"Look, right there, at 9 o'clock. Do you see what I see?"
"Ummm...it's a turd, Sweetie..."
"Look CLOSELY Robin! See it? It's a PYRAMID!"
"Oh Richard..." (swussshhhhh)
"HONEY NOOO!!!!!!!!!
"I'm sorry Rickey, but I had to. I will NOT have you posting photos of POO on The Enterprise."
"But it was a hyperdimensional...."
"Honey, come to bed."

Ha! Testify!  ;D

Oh boy. The second I hear "[Guest], people these days seem so on edge, like something is coming. Could these be the end times?"

And to follow up on another poster, Dylan did not give a good performance when I saw him either. It was at a state fair in Kentucky. I'm sure Dylan was thrilled to be there. In fact, to this day I'm not convinced it WAS Dylan. Hippy garbed with lots of hair, sunglasses, hat, harmonica and planted right in front of the mic, he did like a set of songs without a hello or goodbye. It could have been anybody. Well, maybe not Dolly Parton, I would have noticed. But Pee Wee Herman perhaps. Who knows?
You know, someday I'll book an appearance at one of those things and claim that I'm Dylan. It wouldn't be hard convincing anyone once I'm onstage. You'd just have to stand (or stoop, really) at the microphone, bang on an electric keyboard, mumble whatever you want to a vague melody, and then bam! Student loans paid off!

Oh! A really great one was his 2006 interview with George Knapp and Colm Kelleher where they discussed Skinwalker Ranch - the ranch in Utah that is supposed to be on the path of the skinwalker, which is a sort of Native American shape-shifter. It's a legitimately creepy program - especially the part where Knapp mentions the account of a man's encounter with a being that had the body of a man and the head of a dog. I downloaded that one and have it on my iPod.

Knapp is the best part of the interview, which isn't a surprise!

7/21/11 3:46am est  -  Hoagland says he has 19,000 friends on Facebook...

Replace the comma with a decimal point and you'll likely be closer to the truth.

Also they added cell phone text messaging recently and probably ignore most of the fastblasts and concentrate on the texts instead.
Wow! So Jitterbugs can receive text messages?

I've only seen a live show once at the Hwood Bowl, you don't go to listen to him sing because he slurs the hell out of his old songs so much that he's unintelligible, you go to have a sing-along.
If  you haven't notice I'm a Johnny Cash fan. :)

Don't I know it. I saw Dylan in St. Louis a few years ago, and his voice was about the equivalent of a whoopee cushion being flattened by a 400 pound man. Still, it was cool to see him in person, if not a little depressing.  ::)

Oh boy. You've all gotta read this. I'm sure you all know about George Noory and his 2012 presidential run, but this is just way too good of fodder not to post. ;)

I have always loved when Bell played If You Could Read My Mind . But would he have played Johnny Cash's version? And what does everyone think of it? ...
Very emotional. Thank you for posting this. This was released posthumously, I believe. It sounds like it was sung by someone who was reflecting on a bittersweet life and knew that it was drawing to a close. The cracking of his voice makes it all the more powerful to me.

A number of you guys alluded to this ad,  and I hadn't seen it until this morning.  Unbelievable.  Un-friggin'-believable.

George: So when I was 12 I thought, "George, why are you here?" Isn't that so profound for a 12 year old? Don't you think that's a sign I was destined for great things?

On a side note...... I just tuned in to C2C & Snoors for the first time (Ian and Knapp shows aside), and I swear within the first five seconds I heard the word angel.  I'll go back to the AB stream.
Yep. I couldn't take it anymore, so I got an internet radio and have been listening to the CoastGab stream. Absolute heaven! It's like the difference between champagne and really watery, yet bitter beer.

Heh, I had that song running through my head the moment I saw your name, Quinn. I wanted to make a comment immediately, but forced myself to keep reading posts before I did. Thus I avoided the, "Ha! Look how witty I am ... oh wait ..." embarrassment of repeating what someone else already said.
Ha! I love it! And I love your avatar too! I approve of anything involving cats.

Ok, I must say, that is awesome that you picked up on that. Yes - I'm a major fan of Bob Dylan.

This set me to look at the pics on coasttocoastam.com, and seeing the pics for the "Emerging Artists" made me wonder - WHAT the HELL? Coast to Coast meets American Idol. Wonder who thought that lovely concept up. After all, they totally go together.

Oh man and that reminds me of those God awful listener talent nights. "Call into Open Lines and play your musical instrument." Good lord. Really George?

Wow I shouldn't go to that site again. It's just turned into a giant ad for buying gold and working from home. It's such a shame. I used to enjoy that website before they redesigned it.

And there you have it. Coast to Coast has changed from being an informative, entertaining show wrapped in mystery to yet another program obsessed with profits. I think that is the basic difference between Bell and Noory.

Bell has a background in radio and is interested in keeping the show compelling. Noory has a background in broadcast journalism. Therefore, Noory's philosophy is "get as many listeners as we can so we can get the highest ratings." How do you get more listeners? Dumb down the show so the masses can comprehend it. I still remember one time when J.C. called in and Noory told him, "Well, I expect you would be listening - it's a highly rated show!" Ugh.
