Serious question: Can someone who lives in America confirm or contradict something, please?  The limited information I have on this subject comes strictly second-hand, may be entirely wrong...and this isn't the sort of thing anyone who wants to be gainfully employed in the US can afford to get wrong.

The Democrats have started a wave across the country to lessen/remove the penalties of felonious behavior.

Voting rights used to be revoked and, since the Dems work hard to secure their voting base, they have aggressively fought for the "rights" of those who have victimized others.

They have done the same for illegal aliens. In States like California, they not only allow driver's licenses to be issued to non-citizens here illegally, they automatically register you to vote when you get a driver's license...

Employment applications are another aspect where the Democrats have started a battle. It used to be legal to ask a potential employee if they had a criminal record.  And, knowing quite a few business owners over the years, let's just say that there is a correlation between past behavior and future behavior... Need I say more?

Being that my niece has a fetish for Mexican gang members, I am not joking, my brother-in-law ran criminal background checks on everybody she hung out with. You would be amazed to see how many of those guys were illegal aliens, in violation of parole, had violent or sexual crime histories or a combination of those. Both of her baby-daddys are gone. One shot dead, the other in prison. Seems that the latter had a conviction expunged due to multiple letters of reference from religious leaders.

As soon as my kids are out of high school, I'm getting my ass out of California, that's for sure.

Good Dave's guest last night has also done some work in Mormon archaeology, a fascinating discipline which tries to find evidence for the civilizations described by Joseph Smith.  Early on, they focused on the Mound Builders in the eastern US (there were Indian mounds around Palmyra, NY where Smith wrote the book) and I did learn some interesting things, like the fact that a few of the sites are stone (e. g. Glenford Fort in Ohio) and some show signs of fortification.  More recently, they've looked to the various Mesoamerican civilizations for obvious reasons, trying to fit the geography Smith described to a place he'd never seen.

There's DNA talk, too, searching for Middle Eastern markers in native populations, since some of the Indians, at least, are supposed to be ancient Jews, and a lot of discussion about the remnants of the seeds of one's loins  :o

QuoteD. Jeffrey Meldrum is of the declared lineage of Ephraim, as are the remainder of his family with the exception of one sibling whose patriarchal blessing states that he is of the tribe of Benjamin.

I wish more Mormons would get involved in archaeology.  As a nation, we kind of grew up with those mounds in our back yard, taking them for granted, and many succumbed to early treasure hunters and antiquarians with very little documentation.  Despite their bias, they're sometimes the only ones looking at Hopewells/Adenas etc. and trying to make sense of it.

Great recommendation for a topic for Dave.  I particularly enjoy the Serpent Mound in Ohio and live near some mounds which are outside Cartersville, GA. The Etowah Mounds to be precise.  My uncle used to go hunting for arrowheads at the Pinson Mounds outside Jackson, TN which leaves me to wonder who got his collection of arrowheads when he died a few years ago.

Yes, indeed.  They are our own home-grown masonic priest-kings and should claim their inheritance.

I'm the same way.  Love King's books but I'd probably get in a fistfight with him over political matters.

Is he not exceedingly punchable?

The other 2 images I recognize, can you tell me where this latter day Sphinx is to be found and is that really Joseph Smith's likeness?

Never mind, found it in Gilgal's Gardens:

https://utahspresenthistory.blogspot.com/2013/04/urban-myth-3-gilgal-garden-and-joseph.html

"Thomas Child, a masonry contractor and Bishop of the 10th Salt Lake LDS ward, conceived of a symbolic sculpture garden that would be a retreat from the world and a tribute to his most cherished religious and personal beliefs.  He began building the garden in the back yard of his family home in 1947, when he was 57 years old, and continued to pour his time and money into the work until his death in 1963.  Child named the garden Gilgal after the Biblical location where Joshua ordered the Israelistes to place twelve stones as a memorial.  The name 'Gilgal' is sometimes translate to mean 'circle of standing stones,' an appropriate appellation for a sculpture garden.  Gilgal is also the name of a city and a valley in The Book of Mormon, a sacred scripture in Mormonism.

"Many of the sculptures and quotations found at Gilgal refer to LDS themes: the restoration of the Priesthood, the great Mormon migration west, and the many similarities Child saw between the ancient Israelists and his LDS forefathers.

I live relatively near to one of the mounds. It's near downtown Columbus, and it's literally just a single mound. A turtle shell of a hill, right off the side of the road. It was a neat place to check out.

So Heater Wad is going to turn her show into “Art Bell Story Hour” where she tells some random story about Art and cries a bit?

I left the Sonos on LNM last night and fell asleep half way through Evil MV slurring on about subscriptions and woke when my subconscious brain couldn’t deal with perky pup Warren and Wad’s voice any longer. She was halfway through some extremely homogenised version of how she was chosen (maybe we should start calling her M’uaDib) and Warren was slapping her ego with his flaccid cock.

I suppose she can rinse and repeat these tales ad infinitum due to the advanced age and medication status of her audience.

Crikey!

She Sominex'd me out too!

Loks like I'll be replaying Coast to hear LMH's reedy warble whilst I work...

Last night Noory opened with a report that Knapp had called the coroner's office that afternoon, but was told the results aren't in yet. Noory said Knapp will be calling them again, it sounded like on an almost daily basis. Knapp is clearly not letting it go, and it's top-of-mind as an issue on Coast.

The further we get into the modern age where people routinely go everywhere, everyone has a camera and recording device with them, we have satellites covering every inch of the earth's surface, heat sensors, etc, and still no bigfoot, aliens, etc, the less likely they exist.

Listening to the hacks and frauds on Art's show in the 90s convinced me it's all BS.  Still waiting to be shown otherwise.

Well then, you'll just have to await the "kill shot" in a state of high disbelief then!

You know, I never really got it until I reread War and Peace recently.  In historical context, it was an attempt to found a self-governing ethical system outside church control and corruption, with universal brotherhood as its credo.  The strange trappings are there just because a quasi-religion needs symbols and rituals and a claim to antiquity.

Jackie's gonna hate me now  :(

Wow, really? They must be really concerned with what "actually" happened to Art. I mean, he wasn't on FB as frequently as he had been, but it sounds like he really did go suddenly.  My grandpa was a 2-pack a day smoker for over 50 yrs, and ended up dying of emphysema.  He weighed less than 80 lbs when he died, and had been on hospice for quite a while.  I couldn't believe he'd lived as long as he had in his condition- he was jacked up. But his heart just kept going and going.  Who knows what else was going on with Art.  :( Maybe his heart just couldn't keep up anymore.

I still think he may have od'd on pain medication.  Fentanyl or something similar.  Whether it was accidental or suicidal, we will probably never know.  He didn't seem like he was ready to give up on life, at least according to his last few Facebook posts.  There was something about a note he left behind though so you never know.

So this all ends up being (potentially) about a life insurance policy and suicide?

I wish we had more info on that.  I do recall someone saying that at least 2 sources reported there was a note, but who were those sources?  Were they giving accurate info?

I would totally understand if Airyn wouldn't want a note getting out- that would likely be private, just for her and the kids.  However, if he had taken his life because of his illness, hell- who wouldn't understand that?  (I know some people are against "suicide", but come on. How many people say that who've never been terminally ill and dying an agonizing death?)
