. There's a farm between Godfrey and Jerseyville... beautiful stone farmhouse...I was told all my life that it was haunted...of course the McPike mansion is famous.

This was a cafe which at the time, 20 years ago, was called the "Old Meridian Cafe". I was interested in the paranormal at the time and a friend of mine that did ghost tours in Alton and St. Charles told me to check it out as apparently the upper floor was flagrantly haunted. I stepped up there and instantly got violently nauseous. I went back outside, dry heaved in the alley and felt fine and smoked a cigarette and then went back up and got violently nauseous again. I'm not prone to that, and everyone else was fine, like 10 other people, but they said they heard weird sounds while up there. No clue what the place is called now though.

We used to camp at Starved Rock state park a lot when I was a kid. And another private campground across the road called White Oak campground. There would be indian (feather, not dot) pow wows and gatherings every summer.

There was another private campground called Timber Lake by Antioch which has is now a subdivision but every summer indians would set up teepees and probably 600-1000 indians would show ip for those pow wows. I wish digital recorders existed back then.  It would have made great videos of the dances around the bonfire in full war paint and bonnets.

At least NY is pretty as a state. Illinois ... imagine hell as a flat plain where even the corn and soybeans are out to get you, much less the state troopers trolling for tickets. Then there is the bureaucracy and retirement plans for the governors usually involves mandatory prison time. It's the only place I know of where, upon leaving, one can honestly say "thank Christ I've made it to Wisconsin".

In my wildest dreams I'm still hoping against hope that when Knapp retires from the telly, he will take the weekend slots on MITD. That would really give C2C a run for the money. The only reason I'm still a Coast insider is to get my 1 or 2 a month Knapp shows.
