i like Lisa Garr.. Best voice on air..absolutely beautiful perfection and smart woman.. why not pick her?
Used to listen to her on kpfk in LA.  Shes good into positive thinking and health.  I could never imagine her doing Bigfoot, or conspiracy, or other dark subjects.  I figure George met her doing the rounds when he made LA his base and liked her health/positive slant.

Ah, Joe Pyne. The snowflakes would never allow him on the air today. Here, he interviews George Lincoln Rockwell - head of the American Nazi Party.  Yes, this was on normal commercial radio.

No, Never heard of her.. They should do weekends with great woman hosts!!  Show how lousy Heather is by comparison!!

She was on a lot back in the 90s with her hubby running the board, then on into the 2000s.

Now I can't even find a wiki stub on where she went - great voice and diction, ran a tight interview.

The one I have a problem with is not Heather, it's Connie Wills.

She just doesn't do that great a job in preparation or pacing.

On the 'post reply' page, scroll down to find the quote/s you're looking for and hit 'insert quote'... I think, let me check:

Ok, I'm going to take some time and savor that link.

Ever hear of Tom Valentine and that program he did on shortwave (WWCR?) early 90s....

http://www.wikibin.org/articles/tom-valentine.html

From July 17, 1988 through August 22, 2004 he hosted a talk radio show, "Radio Free America". It was carried on a succession of shortwave radio stations, including WWCR and WHRI, as well as a handful of AM stations. The Spotlight newspaper was the show's sponsor for most of its run. Radio Free America was one of the first talk shows to give sympathetic coverage to the Branch Davidians during the 1993 Waco siege and to the family of Randy Weaver during the 1992 Ruby Ridge incident.

Frequent guests were Col. Fletcher Prouty, the retired intelligence officer and inspiration for the character "X" in Oliver Stone's film JFK; Chicago-based investigator Sherman Skolnick and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). Valentine also gave considerable airtime to guests from the Christian Patriot movement such as Bo Gritz, as well as to alternative health practitioners and people with unorthodox views on science. Frequent callers to the program, including Ray Martin (AKA "Ray in Miami") and "Brian from Brooklyn" developed followings of their own and at times served as virtual co-hosts.

The only Hollywood celebrity ever to appear on the show was Valentine's lifelong friend Eddie Albert, who discussed tree conservation.

Valentine's "Radio Free America" opened and closed with a stirring rendition of John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever." He signed off each broadcast over the song's first bars with "They're playing my song! Good night everybody."

A long-time skeptic of the mainstream media (despite a brief stint with an arm of the Chicago Tribune), Valentine would often segue into network news breaks with the line "Back after the alleged news!"

And he's very good.  But so is the drummer they usu. tour & record w these days (son of lead singer).  Yet some audience members think they're cheated if Carlos isn't there -- and that may be so by eye, but by ear I'd like to know if they could tell the difference!
I hate pickup musicians for those oldies tours.  I don't like the fact that Bun E. Carlos was essentially kicked out and replaced exactly like Michael Anthony was in Van Halen. I would feel short-changed paying top dollar to see those bands.

Oh I dunno...Sally Jesse Raphael was good for her style of show, also the inimitable Rollye James.

I do think there are less opportunities for women talkers, and I think I know why too...

Too many husbands have heard enough at home from their wives and don't want even more talk on the radio...

No pressure, but if you don't get this sorted out soon you're getting your own General Musings thread. We are always looking for fresh talent for when Falkie eventually strokes out, and I'm starting to think you look distinctly promising.

Her radio career wasn't hot starting... She had a good run towards the end... However it wasn't until she was on TV, when she truly made it.

I don't know about opportunities, but it helps who you know. I think we can all agree on that.

SV,

You may be right. I'll start spilling food and eating it off my shirt. I'll also need to gain some weight. I've already stroked out plus 3 heart attacks so I'm ahead of Falkie on that score.

I disagree, payola in the US largely ended with Allan Freed.  I never heard of it being a major factor in the Beatles success, though perhaps the UK had their own version.

As for the "same old" they covered so much ground musically that some regression to mean was to be expected, but their run ended so abruptly that it wasn't excessive or lethargy inducing.

By comparison the Stones, who got off to a similarly poppy start, became damned predictable once they found their particular groove.

When they went afield it wasn't always good, cringe-inducing titles like "Emotional Rescue" and "Start Me Up" still make my ears bleed.

By contrast their wonderful country honk tunes like "Girl With The Faraway Eyes" or
"Dead Flowers" are satiric and musical classics at once.

Frankly if any Brit pop band got old it was The Who - never got the big hoopla around them or Daltry.

Wow, all this talking about music.  I agree Metron2267 the Who along with the Stones and a few other bands were played and played adnauseum!
All this took me back to the days of concerts and the amazing bands we were able to see for a pittance.
I'm dating myself and yes maybe my age in number looks/sounds old, but hell I feel 25 years younger! So with that said 1973 Led Zepplin Tampa Stadium $6.00. Tour for Stairway to Heaven. Jimmy Page jamming on his double neck guitar what a weekend!!

ELO Hollywood Sportatorium 1977 can't remember the ticket price, but one hellva light show as with Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon!! Holy Crap if I could time travel!!
Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Moody Blues, Jethro Tull it was an era of excellence!!
The smoke was good, not so strong you'd pass out.  If that was the case mescaline and microdot was at hand... Loved the hash around that time too!
Okay, a walk down memory lane.. Until tonight Peace out!

My understanding was that his back was bothering him for an extended period.  They made up a story about a feud (and later its having ended) to cover for it, and they needed a replacement, and now they're not going to replace the replacement (who is family -- I just can't keep straight my own family, let alone others'), plus Carlson has another band locally, but they get back together when it's convenient.

How bout the band WAR.  I dont know how many times i tell people that they saw a cover band with only Lonnie jordan in it.  The rest of the former members tour under the name, Low Rider Band, because their manager jerry G, trademarked the name, and there was a dispute.  If you see LRB, you're hearing the creators of that great music.  The band now called WAR, basically plays the songs note for note but for me, don't got the spirit.  But most people don't know or care probably.

WOR has a tradition of female talk m.c.s: Joan Hamburg, Raphael, other I can't remember.  I'm not a fan, just saying they have longevity.

I liked Judy Jarvis.

Bronwyn Carlton has done a series of completely different talk shows on WFMU.  Currently she & her husband Sluggo are doing "Pig Talk" to fill in for "Gig Talk".

I very much enjoy the lady who's part of the young troika that's "Fright Day" carried by DMDN.

However, most of the radio personalities I've heard who were female have been DJs.  Some of them are good interviewers, though.  Kamikaze Diane, after many years on WFMU jockeying discs (occasionally introducing live acts), has in recent time started an interview segment that's long enough to be a program in itself.

Juan

I just noticed that Heather’s own web page refers to the LMN network. Good work, Carl.

Any band with a poor drummer is doomed until such drummer is replaced. There are many examples of bands that get signed and the first one out the door is the crappy drummer.

and yet..Lars still has a job
