Something is just not right about this. Someone else said that they searched/requested the police records and there are none. So there is a shooter threatening him....its not really like Art - and I've been a fan since 1996 - to bow down to someone like that. Its not like him to cancel his show because of a threat. Something just doesn't make sense.

May have something to do with his family but if any of you were around when Ramona died you will know that Art was so lonely, he went out and bought himself a new wife from the Philippines. When he first got married he told many stories about her and how she was very subservient. I doubt in the time she has been married to him that she has become the boss of the relationship so its definitely not her doing.

As I said...something is fishy with this whole story. I'm sure it will come out eventually....

Why would someone who is frightened for his daughter's safety due to a stalker put that daughter's photograph directly above an announcement expressing those fears?  That seems even more ill-advised than posting police responses time to his property and his what time he goes to his studio each night.
So much this! And no police reports. Wow. My brain really hurts now. Or this is the worst acid trip ever. No media coverage, nothing. None of this makes any sense and I'm sorry I'm awake to it now.

Does anyone have any idea who the nut case is that is threatening Art Bell? My money says it is a "Christian terrorist". I have had this gut feeling that they, the Christian terrorists, have loathed Art Bell since the 1990's.

Now I'm thinking it's JC coming back to do Art in.

Do we know yet if there were no police reports? I'd have to hear it from a dependable source.
If my headache goes away I'll call and ask.

People should ask for 911 dispatch records. Not the police report. Maybe it isn't of file yet or there wasn't one done.

Unless this is the Lightbulb eating "prank" taken to the next level. He seemed so disheartened when people figured out he wasn't ACTUALLY eating a lightbulb. He has a very odd, and sometimes cruel impish sense of humor. i went into this knowing it would end one day, but this is just too odd. Or it's all real, and if so i support his decision 110%
what a strange trip.

I have never understood what people see in Mayo. Very bland and BBC to my ears, and I haven't heard much of a sense of humour. When he gets on with Kermode to do their bloody film reviews the smugometer goes right off the charts. I didn't know Steve Wright was still alive - someone should tell him. Ken Bruce is one of those people who will always have a job at the Beeb because he's so inoffensive they can't kick him out, it would be like being mean to a baby squirrel - although don't knock it till you've tried it. Gambo reeks of insincerity...and semen. Clive Anderson appears to walk around with an epileptic seal constantly jammed up his arse. Whispering Bob Harris - if only he were completely inaudible.

Other that, completely agree!  ;)

Also I don't think people are really thinking this through. As we now know, the entire Dark Matter Network was built upon Art, without him the entire network has folded. Even if Art said he was just taking a month long break to sort this out I'm not so sure that the network could survive such a shock. It's pretty clear that Keith understands that the entire network is over and that holding out hope for a return of the "great one" is a waste of time as the network cannot survive that long without him. If I feel bad for anyone involved in this whole thing, it's not Art, it's not the sobbing hysterical überfans, it's Keith. He has invested so much time into getting this thing off the ground, then the pilot just
parachutes out of the plane leaving the plane in a tailspin.

So thanks for trying to make this work Keith!

Do we know if anyone submitted a FOIA request to the Nye County sheriff? If anyone has the approximate dates of all the incidents, I'll send out the request.

Back in the mid/late 2000s when I was spending a great deal of time in the UK, one of the office staff at the company I was working with was seemingly obsessed with a radio presenter by the name of Whale.  I thought it was odd since the guy apparently did a political talk show on a sports station.  I shrugged it off as typical Brit eccentricity, the same thinking that gave Sara Cox (she of the "Big Ones") her own radio show.  Anyway, I noted neither of them made your list.

Oh can this 'master' crap cease? He isn't. He isn't even in the top ten of great broadcasters on radio who are still living. It's possible this sycophancy is the reason he's quit; because he knows he's human, he knows he can't live up to this illusion and he knows also the pedestal is a long way to fall from.

No, it can't.  In his genre, he is the master, hands down.  He created it in the mass form that it is.

Quote from: Claudius on December 12, 2015, 09:39:43 AMI think a big part of that is where you're from. If you're from NY you can probably make a top ten just from NY broadcasters, same with Detroit, Chicago. It would be an interesting list though.
There are so many different dimensions along which to scale, though.  How could one ever determine a top 10 except by saying, "My judging criteria are more important than yours."?

I haven't taken the time to delve through all these comments. I just got the news by email. What a shame, I'm surprised, even from Art. With all due respect I just don't believe him.

Understood. But throw that out, why after you publicly said you quit because you and your family are in danger from doing a show do you call in and host the show? How is this different? As I said last night in the live thread does the shooter (I use that word loosely) have conditions? You can be on if you call in or as a guest? You see how jacked up the logic is? My eyes are open.

I checked Friday with the Pahrump Valley Times, the weekly local paper that reports local Pahrump crime and would certainly report an incident with one of the town's celebrities. I asked about the reports of shots fired and an intruder at the Art Bell residence that began in Oct. The PVT editor responded, "I asked the sheriff's office a couple weeks ago and they said at that time they had no knowledge."

All 911 calls and responses by law enforcement Sheriff are logged.

Since he's local, would you like me to ask J. Neil/Neal Schulman?  I'm not a really close friend, but I was introduced to him decades ago by mutual libertarian friends, have been in contact a little on & off, mostly off.  I think he'd be a little more sympathetic if I asked than if someone else asked him to do a little sleuthing in the neighborhood.  Since he hasn't advertised on MITD in a while, I don't think he'd have any psychologic investment that'd bias him.

We need to find out if this really happened (STALKER EPISODE). Is Art just lying to get out of this, again? Redacted saying it happened, is not enough.
Any police reports out there ? !  >:(

Where is the poll function on the site.. did MV remove it?

It comes with what I do I learned that a long time ago, people think and say the worst things, for the most part that's all they do from behind a mask is talk or make phone threats. It's that other very small group that one must worry about, people who talk rarely DO. A phone threat can be blown off easily but shooting near my House or showing up on my property is something else again, that at the very least is Terrorism.

Anybody who wishes will find the reports at the Nye County Sherrif's office, including the Neighbors who saw it. The way to get ratings is with a good show, not some stupid stunt. As far as talking about it I have always talked about my life on the air, I don't think I could not do that. Ho hum, people will always think and say what they want.

I guess it's a line-drawing question.  I think John Nebel essentially created the form, and considering he was on WMCA, New York at night, it wouldn't've been a big step from there to C2C.  I used to listen a little to John Nebel & Candy Jones.

James Whale on talkSPORT. Yes, he got the sack from there a few years ago and has his own podcast, the last I heard. I think most of them pretty much die the death after a while because it is hard to get subscribers. You find a lot of radio hosts here go off to the local BBC stations - it's the dumping ground for all the old lags who can't find a gig anywhere else. If you want an idea of hell, try listening to BBC local radio. Whale is a pretty standard issue right-wing ranter type. I don't think he offers much else. Very samey and predictable.

Yes! Bob Harris is brilliant. I also used to like Jimmy Young. The list you gave are truly great broadcasters Oops thought of another great Kenny Everett.

I hope it does, and I wish her all the best. I will listen.

Good luck with that. As for me, I'm not interested in listening to hack radio. It's Art Bell or nothing. I could tell from the opening segment that Heather didn't have the chops to carry a radio program. And the way she handled the technical snafu was embarrassing to say the least. It takes years to hone one's on-air skills -- and most aren't good even after doing that. As much as you and others want Heather to succeed, it's not gonna happen. It would be like putting an inexperienced person at the controls of an F16 and expecting them to get off the ground.  No matter how much he or she wants it, it ain't gonna fly.
