EVPs...

I'm probably bias since I've actually heard disembodied voices before (on one occasion with four other people who heard it too), but I think at very least EVPs should be studied more carefully. I've heard several GIS episodes where it did sound as if the voices were responding to what they were saying. Even if you go with the argument that you only hear what people are telling you it still leaves a human voice that shouldn't be in the recording.

As for Wintermute's challenge, wouldn't you have to actually be part of an investigation to be sure that there was no manipulation of the tape?

**Some** devices can digitally fingerprint a waveform. But, it isn't tough to fake that as well. Generally speaking there are two very big problems with the "EVP" concept:

1. Verification of the sound not being manipulated. It's very tough if not darned impossible.
2. The people that do claim to have captured EVPs usually have nothing to lose. It's not like they are "professional" EVP experts that make their living that way. So if they are outted as frauds, what do they care?

Then of course it's a matter of basic physics... why would a microphone tuned to the same audio spectrum / dynamic range as the human ear, pick up a sound that the "researcher" didn't hear in the first place? Shure SM57 would be a suitable example.

Which goes back to my original argument: If you are going to actually treat this like an "investigation", you need a standard framework to go by. You need to know the technology you are using. Otherwise it is a crapshoot... it's neither repeatable nor verifiable, thus could be classified as anything other than research or proof of the existence of EVP.

I tried it and got stuff in Maybury Park in Michigan. Working on the audio. And I actually heard one of them as it happened. Truly makes me reevaluate my thoughts about death. I am actually afraid to listen to the last half hour I have for part of me does not want to go. I was a skeptic and convinced it was all fake. I am no longer a skeptic. When you do the recording yourself and know you did not doctor it and get a voice that should not be there it really makes you believe.

I gave up trying to edit the Noises we recorded at the Custer 7th Calvary/Little Big Horn Battlefield. A few sounded a bit like whispers, but they are probably just wind.

as a novelty only until I hear otherwise for myself, I have been playing with this here and there since hearing the 1998ish GIS on Art Bell and what I have found, that cant really be explained is pretty much zero and I live next to spook central in Virginia City Nevada.. since the digital age, it has become easier,cheaper and clearer. My findings are that all ghost hunting, spirit,voices App's are bullshit (Patrick Burns) The best tool I have really found that stands a dogs chance(just me anyway) is a Iphone on airplane mode with the audio recorder without spending foolish money maybe someday......

I used my Iphone 5s voice memo. Worked great. Still on the fence about listening to the last half hour. Probably will at some point, as my curiosity will get the best of me.

I got a few voices and I am working on the audio as in cleaning it up. The "dead cat" seems like a good idea. I am going back to that park at some point and would really like to get some cleaner audio. Although there really was no wind when I recorded. The wildest thing about all of it is whatever is on the audio is answering or commenting on our conversation.
