Lucky. I still have all his spoken word tapes, DK albums, and even...Lard. Alternative Tentacles has done man great things for music.

Lard is the shit! Have you heard his new stuff or Jelvins (him with the Melvins) He is freaking awesome and seriously smart. He's been in the know since DK years. It would be beyond cool if he were a guest.

Spot on.
I know, and he wrote that in 1965.  Amazingly, chillingly accurate.
We're doomed.

Wow that was from 1965? That's insane how accurate he was.

Truth.
It's more accurate than any prophecy I've ever heard from anybody in modern times.

That Zuni doll creeped me right the fuck out as a kid, when I first watched it.

I forgot all about that movie and doll .... yeah, I was creeped out the first time I saw it in the movies decades ago and it creeped me out again when I saw it on this thread earlier today.

So what do I do ... go find it and watch it again

If someone wrongs you and you take revenge on them aren't you just adding to the evil in the world?  Aren't you doing a 'might makes right' number on them, just as the OT god does?

If you become comfortable in using your magical powers and use it to advance your way through life, isn't that taking undo advantage of others?  Is that just for society?

No wonder he wrote it in 1965: when, thank you Kennedy, we went to an insane type of legal immigration policy under the Hart-Celler Act. And of the various social movements, legal "opinions," and tv that were undertaking to remake society in bizarre ways.

I remember my 7 brothers and sisters watching this in the 70's...they could not stop laughing!...they called it the "EYE EYE EYE Doll" for the sound it made...LOL we still laugh at it today!

As eloquent as Blanche was In interview if she really believes the ideology she was espousing and isn't just acting out a role she's a loon.

nika01

I thought it was very telling that she seemed unaware of their own web page, and.... How she blew off the caller that implicated a split in their organization. He answer was slick, but unconvincing.

Probably a bit late... But welcome, and post often!
Thanks.
So far my only other post has been a tirade re: Mr. Shostak.
Unfortunately conditions limit my comments to post live appearances.
Perusing this forum gives me a heads up as to how the show and guests were the previous night.
An unexpected bonus has been the humor.
:D

A long time ago I wrote a long and boring undergraduate thesis on Satan as the hero of Milton's Paradise Lost. Milton was a devout Christian but despite that, Satan had the best lines, including the one where he says he'd rather rule in hell than serve in heaven, later used to great effect by Khan in Star Trek. Satan was the first antihero in modern English literature. All of which is to say Levay's real name was Howard Levey, Blanche Barton's real name is Sharon Densley. It's not surprising that two people might reinvent themselves from ordinary, humdrum roots to a kind of *dangerous* antihero self-determination. They certainly stand out in a crowd now. Who knows what goes on in their ritual chambers, beyond my sneaking suspicion it's a lot like the cluster of bad 70's made for tv movies about devil worship, but as long as they don't frighten the cows or hurt anyone other then themselves, I also don't care.

Loved the part where she complained about people giving Satanists a bad name.

Yeah.  She reminded me of some of the managers that I'd worked for.  Sociopaths are often attractive people, charismatic, intelligent and the professions they most often are found in are corporate heads and politicians.

CornyCrow

Yes, at one moment she said Satanists did not exist until the bible made it's debut because Satan did not exist before then.  The bible created that character.

Then she says Wiccans should call themselves Satanists because they worship a horned god (not all do).  But the horned god had existed in way earlier times.  It is not a god of opposition, which Satan is, but a nature god.

We are just starting to explore consciousness.  I believe most of us have within us something that gravitates toward goodness, as flowers turn toward the sun. This sort of spiritual direction is healthy for us.  It fills our hearts.  We make up a god to have a focal point or sorts. As we study consciousness I believe that things which we may not consider important now will take on a much greater importance.  We will find value in positive attributes and not have to attach them to dogmatic religions.

Sorry to ramble. I know this sounds silly to most of you.

Haha! Yes, and I couldn't tell if her irony was accidental or intentional.  How about when that sharp caller caught her in their use of 666, which she tried to deny, then admitted to choosing for her PO Box..."Well, it was available."   She claimed she only used it as a "wink" to the critics.  Right.

How about when she was marginalizing Satanic ritual abuse of children and then started saying things like children are the perfect conduit between the worlds?  That was creepy as hell for me.

I caught that and thought exactly the same thing. Christianity 'demonized' the older god for its own benefits. The horns and the cloven hoof are all attributes of Pan. It's important, too, because just as there was no separation of the 'sacred' and 'profane' pre-Christianity, so too a figure like Pan was neither 'good' nor 'evil' but embodied great power which could be beneficent and terrible, creative and destructive (like the goddess Kali in Hinduism). I've always thought this reflects nature and the human condition so much better than the black hat/white hat cosmology Christianity tries to promote, with its puerile emphasis on sin.

There's a wonderful portrayal of Pan in the chapter entitled The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (yes, Floyd fans, Syd nicked it from a children's book) in Kenneth Grahame's Wind In The Willows.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show, though.

Thing is why did some children at the Presidio Child Development Center test positive for various VD/STDs (contrary to old myths you don't get them from toilet seats or something? And why did one of the guys, Gary Hambright (Baptist Minister apparently, later die of HIV/AIDS? And the mysterious fire that destroyed records? Why wasn't Col. Aquino not brought up, even once (at least that I heard) with regard to LaVey, Church of Satan,/Temple of Set split, etc?

And the hypocrisy of Mrs. Barton quoting CS Lewis! And Art, and no callers, mentioning Screwtape Letters etc? :o Though it would appear that in the show Art did mention "are you a lawyer" and one caller did mention that deception is Satan's method, but it was glossed over by Art with full agreement with Mrs.Barton. He should've pressed better on that caller (from his knowledge of Malachi Martin's comments, if not any Bible or CS Lewis's satire!) He did, on the next show, go down that road a bit.

Good post, Albrecht.
Indeed why.

Finally got to sit and listen to the whole show from the archives last night, well at least she's a great story teller. But my favorite caller was the girl who seemed to be snorting Helium and/or smoking the Deevels Weed, Maryjuana! I think that's kind of the best way to listen to this kind of guest! :o

The church of satan that Blanche represents has nothing to do with any of this.  That's like saying all the Vatican is responsible for all the snake charming churches.

I don't think it's merely an ornamental get out of jail free card though. These videos were released a few months back, HIGHLY disturbing.

Hi "lolligaggers" I have missed most of the live shows because I don't tune in until after 11 most nights. But loving the RSS (I hope that's correct geek speak) feeds so much. I especially loved this guest and wanted to see what the  bellgab consensus   was on her.
