They worked a triple play once? Or something to do with scoring such as 6-4-3 (double play).

Yes on the double play .. one of the most famous and efficient double play/6-4-3 combos in early baseball history - Tinker to Evers to Chance. The trio were immortalized in a poem in the New York Evening Mail --

            Baseball's Sad Lexicon

These are the saddest of possible words:
    "Tinker to Evers to Chance."
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
    Tinker and Evers and Chance.
    Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double â€"
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
    "Tinker to Evers to Chance."

This has been one of the really great threads. Should go in our permanent scrapbook of waiting and planning and hoping and praying. And now, we are here! Eve of destruction!!
