I have just started learning audacity, and I am old and slow, but someday, hopefully SOON, I shall know how to do everything.  I have to record Hoagie every nite, and I have successfully set my audacity timer to do that, and am so tickled pink that I can do that now :D

Awesome!   :)

Lilith

I missed Nancys answer to Rosies question where to purchase a $16.00 stream.  Did anybody catch where/how to do that?  It was near the last quarter of the show, toward the end.  Of course, maybe I misunderstood.

Sigh, and I am older than you ... and you are NOT slow ... neither am I ... we are definitely smart ladies for our age ... (along with Nancy -- Rose too but I believe she is quite a bit younger -- even though she is a granny!)

I absolutely love that there are other females of our age who take an interest in the technical aspects of computers, this is so much fun ...   when I get home this evening I will definitely load up audacity and start playing with it.

I also love that Serenity and Chefist are willing to help us gals with knowledge and support.

INDEED :D  There are so many here who will fly in out of nowhere and answer any questions we have.  One day it was wr250, who just flew in to save the day :D

lol Not to worry, brig....I didn't even catch it. Because there wasn't an answer. Perhaps do a google search for 'live stream purchase'.

I could, but I would rather use what Nancy, or someone I KNOW recommends.  No doubt Nancy will reply and let us know when she has a chance.  I am old and patient .....lol's.

There she is.  Hey Rosie, I found a link for tunein that give you info on registering your stream. I posted it earlier but here it is again so you can see it too. Looks pretty straight forward

I saw in the TOS its non-commercial, so it would only be useful until you wanted to try to make some income off your broadcasts looks like?

I think that might be one of the differences between things like Tune-In and things like Dark Matter Digital Network. But I don't know enough to know yet.  I am just learning.  I hope Nancy will educate me on this.

I'll TTYL, I gotta go catch up on the latest episode of True Detective and stuff.

Lilith

I was just thinking, that could be why listening live is free, and podcasts "costs"

Age -- or the number of years we collect, label, and display -- is not the number we care about around here. The $16 a month figure is on the higher side, actually. But I chose the same company that Keith used for the original Dark Matter stream: http://icecastdirect.net/index.php

There are two lower-priced streams, and there are lots of places where you can try all this technology out for free. I am on a Mac system, which is why I chose this company.

I would look at Spreaker.com first, though, ff you have a good working Flash on your browser. Or SoundCloud if you're not ever going to try to broadcast live.

As soon as you can formulate a question, ask away. I have found that framing out a proper question is the hardest part.

The thing is...(As Nancy would say) is that ginger root is a natural antibiotic, anti-inflamitory, and many other things that are just SO GOOD for you.

Do you just grate a little from the root and add boiling water? Or ... ? (See, if have questions, too.)

I juice it Nancy! Try juicing apple, carrot, ginger and lime...AMAZING!

Exactly the stuff I was looking for, from a person I know has the experience to give the best advice :D  Thank You Nancy.  As I play around learning, I plan to just use my soundcloud as a progress diary of sorts, and maybe for other tidbits.  I have no plans to do live broadcasting myself, but I would have loved to have been able to co-host on the spec sheet the other night with that good mic/headset you recommended, to talk about the Windows 10 roll out.  Maybe I will have the experience to do it next time something like that comes up :D  The reason I was interested in learning more about the $16.00 stream, is because I would like to learn to do it, just so I know how.  My other motive, as I explained to serenity, is because I would like to be able to do for you, as you did for bateman one night, when you carried his stream for him, and offered to do for the spec sheet the other night.  Free is  good, but sometimes its better to pay for something, if it doesn't cost too much, and you can afford it, because sometimes it takes a long time to learn the same thing on a different system, sort of like learning Photoshop, then having to learn Gimp, if you get my drift.  Thank You again for the info Nancy.

Nancy, I just scrape off the flaky skin with a spoon, and very thinly slice the ginger root.  The pieces look like thin quarters.  slice about a tablespoon of those, put them in the bottom of your cup, add boiling water, and let steep a few minutes.  You can keep adding more boiling water to the same ginger root quarters for about three cups.

Lol's, well, you know what they say, you will never learn if you don't ask questions, even if that means taking the risk of framing your questions incorrectly.  No pain, no gain.  ;)

MV must know how to get a stream registered for the Tunein App since his Gabcast/Spec Sheet stream at Ufoship.com is on there...
TuneIn also has the "add custom URL" at the bottom of the page with the list of saved stations that I have used to put in the bella-haven direct stream URL: http://50.7.71.219:7453/live
Then it appears in the saved stations stream list and can be played live in the Tunein App on a smartphone easily.

I figured MV would be the best person to ask about that, because the link serenity posted for Tune-In basicly seems to only say, email us for more information, and we'll email you back lol's more or less, unless I'm looking in the wrong places at that site.  Nancy had told me about Icecast before, but I didn't know what it was clearly in my mind till today.  Sometimes you can read a page about an app, or a program, and it makes no sense because you don't know which part of the process the app or program is used for.  It's all starting to make sense to me little by little, thanks to everyones help :)

That sounds refreshing Chefist :D  Good to see you!   I might have to try that sometime, but I am very attached to my plain steaming hot ginger root tea.  It usually stops a sore throat, cold or flu in its tracks for me, and I just love the flavor of ginger root all by itself.

Brig, if you happened to record last night's hoagy show, you might want to keep it to yourself. There is a missing bit in the archives and it has started a frenzy. An ugly frenzy, and I think they are turning him into poor Cecil, the dentist's lion.

They are gathering, making fun of him, baiting him, sending in crank callers ... ugly.

Here is a cute photo to lighten the mood. Save Hoagy. Listen to 🌸Bella🌸

I had forgotten to unplug my external speakers, so it was a very poor recording........ not up to our high standards anyway.

you should be able to pipe audio directly from vlc or tune-in directly into audacity for a crystal clear recording. I am using VLC and Audio Recorder grabs it nicely....on Ubuntu that is
