Hi All.. I joined the board because of this thread.  I actually started writing a small web app that would produce the RSS for myself but thought I'd share if there was any other interest.  The only caveat is that you would have to submit your login/password creds for the DMDN website to my web app which allows it to login as you, pull the links to the existing files and create the RSS.   I would encrypt your login info and return a url like:

http://myrssapp.com/feed/encryptedtokenorsomethinglong

You would just use that link.  Your credentials would not be stored on my server and would just be unencrypted when you hit the url and used  to login.  If you changed your pass the RSS wouldn't work anymore.

It seems that Keith is using amazon s3 signed URLs for the podcast mp3 so I would need to pull your signed urls which is why your credentials are necessary.

Yes, I have my own subscription, more than happy to prove that to anyone, I don't need your credentials.  If you are interested or want more details, let me know.  If you think my idea sucks, that's fine too.

I'm interested too

I will PM you each in a minute.

this works wonderfully.  only thing i'm noticing is that the episodes are landing in beyondpod (android) in the wrong order.  the dates are in order, but the individual segments within are seemingly randomized.  for instance, july 31, the episodes land in the order of part 2, part 3, then part 1.  august 3 is 1,3,2.  august 4 is 3,1,2.  if this can't be fixed, no big deal.  you've already alleviated 99% of my headache.  thank you!  you're a gentleman and a scholar.

I noticed that too.   I just pushed a change which I'll test in a minute.  The entire process is kind of convoluted and hacky, I really wish I didn't have to write this!

As a side note, I'm waiting to hear back from Downcast which is what I use and it doesn't work!

Do you want them 3,2,1 or 1,2,3?  What is the consensus?

Interview A - Part 3
Interview A - Part 2
Interview A - Part 1
Interview B - Part 3
Interview B - Part 2
Interview B - Part 1

or the reverse on the ordering of the parts within an interview.

I think 321 makes the most sense but I notice that on Keith's website it's the reverse.
Either way, we're splitting hairs.  IT WORKS AND IT'S GREAT!!! WOOO!

No problem, it is showing 3,2,1 right now instead of some random order.  Thanks for your feedback.

my beyondpod is configured to start with the oldest material at the top, and work its way down in playlist fashion, so 1,2,3 is what seems best to me, but that's ok either way.  just happy i can finally hear the show on my phone without having to break my neck.

I use beyondpod at home so that's good that it works. I suspect the ordering could get messed up based on how it is done right now but we'll see.

Aren't the MITD credentials the same as PayPal? Are you phishing for passwords?

No they are not.  When you sign up for MITD they issue you a password via email.  Nobody has access to your paypal password except for paypal.

This is what the email looks like:

If you add ?reverse=1 to the end of the url it will reverse the order now.

Don't speak too soon.  Still an issue with the episode labeling.  Also keep in mind the download links to the mp3's expire so if your podcast app caches/stores the links you'll have to refresh the list.

Sorry. I see someone asking for username and passwords and instantly assume the worst.

It was a fair concern.  The risk to using the service is providing your mitd login to the app which is required to produce the rss.  As I mentioned it won't be saved by me anywhere only encrypted and returned back to you in a secure URL that will produce the rss feed.

sbaustin

I just pushed a fix for the labeling of episodes, they weren't right before.  If the people who contacted me can use it for a few days (today/tomorrow/etc) and then if all goes well I'll release it into the wild.

sbaustin

Due to the lack of a podcast friendly feed, I created a web app that will create a podcast friendly feed.    This web app is to support both the people that are "Time Travelers" to Midnight in the Dessert and the podcast in general as it is super frustrating to NOT be able to use a podcast to listen to their archives.   You can read a little about the frustrations  here.

The link to the podcast rss feed generator is http://pod.kpensar.com

Instructions:
* Open your podcast app
* Go to the Add a Feed part and enter this URL:  http://pod.kpensar.com/feed
* If your app has a section for login credentials, enter your MITD user/pass.  On Downcast it looks like this:  https://db.tt/zQJ0m2xz  The built in IOS podcast app only has a URL and will prompt you for them after you subscribe to it.
* Subscribe.

Alternate instructions that will go away soon:
* Go to the URL
* Click the "Create Feed" button
* Enter your MITD credentials
* Copy the URL that is generated into your podcast app

This was tested on a few podcast apps, but not all.  There is a FAQ about some of the questions people might have especially around the credentials and what might be stored on the server.

This is a work in progress and if you have any issues/questions/suggestions/concerns please post them here.  Letting me know you are using it is great too!   A thanks to MV, The General, and floodgate for helping me test it.

They are only vouching that the site/feed generator works although that's not guaranteed!

I can also vouch for eFoods and Tahiti Village.

But seriously, sbaustin, thanks for sharing this program, it will solve my MITD RSS problems.

Yeah, forgive my lack of manners. Thanks for your work.

No worries I wasn't offended or anything.

This is great sbaustin. Thanks so much. Using Pock Casts to pull feed.
The only thing to note, while using Pocket Casts only the third hour of each show appears.
