Oh that is weird.  Do you remember what you felt in the dream when you saw the cake?  Consternation, disappointment, revulsion?  Can you connect that emotion with anything in your immediate experience, perhaps that you haven't acknowledged fully?

It was a reward of sorts, though I can't remember what I did to deserve it.  I remember being hungry...but like I said, woke up before I could eat the thing.  haha

Now that you mention it, I have never seen a timepiece in a dream that I can remember. It's usually day or night, which I guess is supposed to mean something.

I know I have seen a clock in at least one dream and it scared the crap out of me. I won't go into the details, but I will say I KNEW if I didn't wake myself out of that dream, that I was going to die. I was contemplating calling into MITD last Friday, but decided it was too personal.

Maybe around the campfire during the eclipse campout.

You bring up an excellent point! I never feel weather, like breeze or rain in a dream. That is one thing, if you think we go on to some spirit world or something after death, that I think I would miss.

In my garbage-can dream, it was cloudy, warm and humid, threatening rain.

i used to have recurring dreams when i was still in hs, that we were invaded by a foreign nation and everything in my area looked the way Syria does now, long story short i end up getting shot in the dream, and i can smell my burnt shirt and my own blood before i die in the dream, and each time i died in the dream thats when i would wake up.

Also, I've had those dreams where you are falling but wake up right before you hit the ground. I often wondered if I had not awoken if I would have died in my sleep. I guess you show that I wouldn't have. Man, you have some rough dreams. Heh. I think recurring dreams are your subconscious trying to tell you something. I have my own that I won't post here considering all the animosity that floats through this forum.

Were you ever in Syria?

Edit -- I read this and it sounds awfully like I'm prying, which isn't at all my intent.  If you think of anything, yes or no is more than sufficient.

Not at all, K.  I think it's a fascinating subject and I don't mind talking about my dreams at all.  For instance, I used to dream of flying like a bird when I was young.  Now that I'm 'older' I can still fly but I only rise up a foot or so off the ground and move forward slowly.  I guess more levitating than flying...that must mean something, huh?

Wow, yeah. I've had dreams of something similar. That bent fire escape on the right is especially evocative.

Ug, the flying dreams. They seem great at first until you cant get over the treeline. Some of them are OK though, the lucid ones, that is.

Oh I'm sure it does.  I used to have similar levitating dreams when I was younger, where we'd all be sitting in the living room and I'd suddenly float slowly up through the ceiling and into the sky, where I'd begin to -- not really fly, since there was no effort like a bird, but I could direct it, and the experience was exhilarating.  Everyone else was oblivious, kept talking away.

I was a weird kid with obscure interests lost in my own world, which I found more rewarding than the mundane going on around me.  Seen in that light, I think the metaphor becomes obvious.

you do, its just that you dont remember lol

That's what I think too. Trostol, before you go to sleep, tell yourself you will remember your dreams when you wake, then don't forget to try to remember them when you wake.

Roswells, Art

or have someone wake you up in the middle of the night, heh.

Try eating lots of meat, at least half a pound, right before bed.  Works for me every time.

Yeah, only not Freddie.  Put a pad and pencil by your bed and jot something down if you thought you saw some images or heard some sounds.  Was probably a dream.

Or slap on a nicotine patch. That will do it.

Oh I believe it.  It should be classified as a psychoactive substance for some of us.  Sometimes I think the brain is burning through the stress hormones coursing through the poor creature's system before it died, but then I think nah they're destroyed by cooking.

That reminds me of this book:

The main character won't eat meat because she says it's eating the fear the animals suffered when they were slaughtered.

I think you would like that author. I wouldn't recommend Even Cowgirls Get the Blues as your first book by him. It was made into a movie which from the depth of my soul I would not recommend. Please for the love of anything you find holy, don't watch it, until you read a few of his books. It's...not good.

I would recommend the book I posted up there, Another Roadside Attraction, or his famous one, Still Life With Woodpecker.

Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas isn't bad either.

Yeah I get the ones where I can sort of levitate, and cruise along just touching the tops of tall grass etc.  Sometimes I can zoom higher like over a 1-story building but then I usually lose control and skid sideways or whatnot.

when ever i look at a clock etc in my dreams time stand stills, and thats how i know in the dream that im actually dreaming

I never see clocks and prob wouldn't matter as I can't seem to read things like notes or stuff I come across.  However often near the end of a dream, I become aware I'm in the middle of one, and I'm able to sort of manipulate it for fun - like change certain objects in my surroundings or sort of decide what I'll find on the other side of a door etc. - I think this is a kind of lucid dreaming, and is kind of like a warped video game.  But I cannot usually do it for very long, I usually get jolted awake pretty quick.  Although sometimes I've been able to go back asleep and re-enter the realm if I want to.

I am howling at the squirrel gif.

I called in to MITD once to talk about my flying in dreams. It is a lot like you described. Levitating. But if I don't realize it is a dream, I usually stay inside the house. I will be floating around and if I feel myself "settling", my hands will "flap" to take me back up. I often wonder if my hands are actually moving. If I realize I am dreaming, then I can control it and go places. Not always sure where I will end up. Sometimes I have a destination in mind, sometimes not.

It is true.  In a slaughterhouse environment, livestock are terrified and suffer extreme anxiety.  They see, hear, and smell the stress exuded through the sweat, urine, and feces of one another, especially the one being slaughtered.

This causes an immense rush of fear-adrenaline which does affect the flesh.

Before you ask whether I'm a vegan (no) just remember.  Plants have feelings too. ;)
