Obama to announce immigration order in Las Vegas on Friday

Started by Quick Karl, November 19, 2014, 09:44:07 AM

How in the world could anybody support the infusion of millions of low skilled, low paid laborers into an already weak job market? That is insanity! People are suffering in this country. Veterans can't find jobs, some can't find jobs that pay enough to support their families. And now we are welcoming millions and millions of illegal aliens to break into our country and steal jobs from those who are already hurting? American citizens have paid the price? Is that what we're doing now? You bet!

A very sad day in our history.

1) Obama could care less about our country (frankly Im surprised he didn't go further with his amnesty.)
2)  he could care less about our veterans (news and reports says his secret waiting lists at the VA still happen.)
3) his "rebels" he supported earlier are now ISIS/ISIS/SI at now are enemy will mean more causalities
4) he and his family are rightfully protected from illegals and all threats (doubt he will risk some uninsured drunk illegal hitting his car. (Though interesting how his SS has hearings and seem don't seem effective. Did they "interpret" open-border to allow fence jumpers?) Or a protest from his Praetorian Guard?

There is a cancer in this country -- it is people that would harm their own brother while using the excuse of compassion for aliens to justify it...

We can debate, but lets at least be honest.  Do you really think American-born vets would take jobs butchering hogs for $8/hr in Iowa? Or picking strawberries?  Or doing shovel work?  Do you think any of the men waiting for day work outside the Home Depot parking lot entrance are veterans? Hell, do you think any are Americans?

I believe a lot of people would take jobs butchering hogs and picking strawberries for $12/hr. And that`s more in line with what those jobs would pay were it not for cheap, illegal labor.

Further, I know plenty of people that are adversely affected by illegal labor. Most are contractors that refuse to hire illegals, thus, they are at an extreme disadvantage when submitting bids.

When I drive around my humble home town of Myrtle Beach, SC, I see new construction almost everywhere. Our economy is doing well, the real estate market is booming, there`s construction on every corner. That`s a good thing. What is not so good is, every construction crew is exclusively Mexican/Central American labor.....EVERY SINGLE ONE. Why you ask? Simple. They work CHEAP!

Why pay skilled labor $20/hr to wire a home when you can get Jose to do it for $10/hr, right? Dry wall, roofing, plumbing...same thing. It`s a f****** disgrace.

Therein lies the trouble. If were not for flooding the job market with job seekers, the hog plant would have to pay the butcher more than $8.   That's what the corporations that you claim to dislike want.  It's supply and demand.

For a time, a radio station in Jacksonville, FL tried a liberal talk format.  The man on at noon was a retired, but had been a union employee all of his life.  He got many calls from people with Hispanic accents (probably Puerto Ricans there) comlaining about the non-union illegal aliens the big contractors hired.  They were driving down wages.

I live and work in close proximity with a married couple who for many years have dotted every i and crossed every t to be and work here. Good on them. I still believe cheaters never prosper and we're all about to pay for multitudes not to.

Postscript- For those who don't know, I'm as brown as they come, grandchild of Mexican legal immigrants, Spanish primarily spoken in my childhood home, raised smack dab in the middle of the "brown power" movimiento. This executive action bullshit is horseshit.
With respect, brother, I don't really care about color, where someone came fm, how long ago they 'got off the boat', etc.  There is a legal process.  It is supposed to be the law of the land.  And that's as simple as it can be.
There are a great many immigrants (legal) and their children who believe that they did it legally, worked hard at the process and achieved their goal of citizenship or legal status, so why shouldn't everyone else?
Voice that belief and be labeled a 'race traitor.'  Pls remember Aldous, that we are surrounded by S.I.Ms.  Sheep, Idiots and Morons.  They are S.I.Ms in that they look like reasonable, thinking people but only simulacrums to that which they purport to be.

To answer the premise of your questions.... "Yes."  In the past 5 years the widespread hiring of illegal immigrants for farm work has displaced generational American workers (and their families) from their livelihood making $15 to $30 an hour.  The illegal workers are lucky if they see $3 to $5 an hour.  This has been quietly, yet pervasively occurring across the USA.  And yes, many Vets were farm workers before they entered the military, and many try to return to that work when they are discharged.

Yorkshire pud

FWIW: We have a immigrants from the rest of Europe across the channel because of the controversial free movement of labour agreement with the fascists in Brussels and Strasbourg. Anyway. I'm not happy about it, but the large companies and farms are. Look around Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Herefordshire and pretty much any mainly arable or fruit farming area in the UK..the farm labourers are mainly Polish, Romanian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonia, Slovakian...Why? Because they're cheap to employ, and oddly these farmers (or should that be conglomerates) insist if the foreigners didn't do the picking, no-one would. Even more odd because these places have been open long before the introduction of the free movement of labour with the rest of Europe. The downside is they have board and lodgings in the deal; they send back home 90% (if they have families) to their homes (fair enough) and when the contract is up, they go back. I've worked with two Polish lads a few years ago. One was a pleasure to work with, flew home every friday night to do college on saturday and fly back for monday. The other was an arrogant twat who thought he was gods gift to women.

Skilled labor who's a legal citizen has to charge $50hr to mow lawns so he can take home $20 after taxes, social security, govt mandated health insurance, endless business licensing, regulations, etc...an illegal who owns his own business, is independent and take care of himself and his family only needs to charge $20hr to take home $20hr. Amazing how that works.

When those skilled illegals become citizens, and have to play by our govt rules, they will have to raise their prices to make a living. Their customers will not pay $50hr so they'll will lose their ability to provide for their families. It's ok they'll be able to get free Obamacare for $350mo, and if they don't they'll be fined up the ass and thrown in jail.

Regardless of why they say they're doing it, it's a grantee the politicians think they'll benefit from amnesty. They could give a flying f...about people American or Mexican.

Hmmm, but what proportion of your illegal immigrants will be a); self employed? What percentage will be b); employed by companies at a lower salary than legal workers? I'm guessing (in order), a) not many and b) quite a lot.

Here's the Analysis from across the pond.

Very simply, this is a Democrat voter drive. Once the USA is flooded with Latin Americans, we will very certainly have a Latin American style government. This isn't about the immigrants, not about compassion, not about keeping families together.  It's about power.  It's about obtaining and keeping power.  The elections are just too close for the Dems.  They need more serfs.

Corrupt, abusive, and prone to coups?

The law of unintended consequences suggests they will lose more voters from the other voting blocs than they gain with this - white, black, current legal Latinos... this isn't as popular as Big Media wants us to believe it is.  It's only about 60% favorable with Latino citizens and 70-80% unpopular with everyone else.

If the R's weren't the Stupid Party they'd be running ads on the Black and Latin radio stations for the next 2 years talking about lost jobs, wage competition, and a bigger pool of people accessing the handout pie.  And wondering what the D's have done for Blacks lately

After looking over the transcript of Mr. Obama's speech and reading commentary by lawyers, I'm not convinced he really did anything new.  I think this is more to bait the Repukes into a reaction that would further distance Hispanics.

Who's hiring them?  It's Americans; mostly the same small businesses that whine about being the victim of the evil government.  It's just another conservative perversion; punish the people who work hard while leaving the sacred "America small businessman"; the true driver of the illegal immigrant crisis, to keep the huge profits made from undercutting American workers.  One of the key elements of the Senate-passed Bill that Boehner has stiff-armed for a year and a half is much stricter enforcement on employers of illegals.  Gee, I wonder why the Rs won't pass it?

b_dubb

The reason the border is porous is it allows a steady supply of cheap labor to flow into the US.  It's good for business.

Exactly.  Seal the borders airtight and watch the "small business" profits fall when Bob the Builder can't pick up $8/hr heavy labor on the corner by HD.

Sure, it`s Americans. Who else could it be?? Although, I know plenty of Indians, Pakistanis, and Lithuanians that hire them as well. And it`s wrong! it`s dead wrong. Until the congress grows some testicles (D and R) and pass laws with teeth that punish employers who knowingly hire illegals, nothing will change. And, for the record, I`m talking about PRISON time for employers; NOT fines.

This is not a partisan issue. BOTH parties are equally guilty. Boehner is a disgrace, as is my OWN SC senator, Lindsey "Grahamnesty"(as he is  known here in SC).

Somebody mentioned the prospect of Hispanics turning against Republicans if the R`s challenge Obama on his EO. Nothing could be further from the truth! That`s a myth promulgated by Democrats that brain`dead Republicans have swallowed for years. The truth is, Latinos are as much against illegal immigration as anyone! Latinos are Republicans at heart. They want Republicans to talk to them. To invite them into the tent. Latinos believe in strong family values, hard work, and are deeply religious. Latinos are REPUBLICANS that just need to be TOLD they are Republicans. One day soon, a Republican like Reagan -- who COULD communicate -- will meet the challenge.

Then Bob can play by the rules, like Dan down the street. And instead of Bob living in a $750k home on the North end, with 5 bedrooms and 3 brand new trucks, he can get by with a really nice $300k home and 1 brand new truck in W. Myrtle Beach...the way it USED to be.

Obama in Vegas, wonder how the funraser went. That must have been a great party! If I were Obama Id move the White House to Vegas. Use eminent domain to take Wayne Newtons place and just live there. Would make it so much easier. Plus it would save taxpayers money, never that's irrelevent . But still, dozens of world class golf courses, the people who attending the fundraisers will have plenty of hotels to choose from to get ready for their $25k a plate dinners. It's time for real hope and change. Obama and the White House to Vegas! Maybe they can take one of the half dozen hotel construction projects that have collapsed and shut down during the Obama recovery. Just build a new white house, 60 stories high, covered in gold bling.

Here's a thought for you PhD's...

Low wage construction laborers are how Georgia-Pacific, Home Depot, GE, and a myriad of other LARGE BUSINESSES reap profits - NOT just Bob the Builder...

The small business general contractor hires an illegal for next to nothing and Georgia-Pacific et. al. want in on some of his windfall, so the price of lumber etc. goes up. Meanwhile Georgia-Pacific et. al. uses illegal labor to crush their labor costs and their shares increase in value... Now the banks are like hey fuck you we're getting some of that too so the next thing you know you have a housing bubble and "too big to fail".

CLOSE THE FUCKING BORDER ALREADY FUCKING MORONS.

I feel your pain but thats about as likely to happen as abortion being made legal or illegal once and for all. Politicians make their living getting reelected on these same tired subjects that never get dealt with. Minimum wage. Social security. Abortion. The border. Immigration. The endless anger concern these subjects generate is what fills politicians pockets seats in the fundraisers, and the voting booths.

Therein lies the problem. The right loves illegal immigration for this exact business reason. The left loves it because it's guaranteed D votes.
