The government should take over a resort.  Quarantine the people in luxury and they will stop complaining.

I was thinking of the same thing Juan, but perhaps for different reasons.  Every health care worker I've known who has worked a disaster; Katrina, 9/11, Haiti, etc, suffers from stress disorder when they return home, often finding themselves unable to deal with petty politics and complaints from people who have no idea how lucky they are.  The resort quarantine could include debriefing sessions on coping with the catastrophic human suffering they've witnessed as well as caregiver burnout.

You all might not be so hard on her if you understood her and others' frustrations at the culture shock of returning to bumbling first world politicians who have know idea what they are doing, lack any medical credentials whatsoever, yet made hasty medical decisions without regard to her need for rest and privacy following her experiences in West Africa.  I seriously believe those of you so quick to criticize her here would respond just as she did, but of course we'll never know.  It's a good thing there are those like Ms Hickox and others who aren't afraid to step in and assist in a disaster.  She, like many of you, could simply choose to pick up her guns, freeze dried rations and run for the hills.

Again, not arguing that she was treated harshly, but "horrendous" it is not.  I've been involved with a quarantine situation similar to that in Hong Kong during the SARS thing.  It's boring as fuck, but not inhumane.
Waiting in the airport lounge for a delayed flight is boring.  Being put in a tent for what was she was told would be 21 days, by decree of a campaigning politician acting against all medical expertise, upon her return from a month doing humanitarian service that no politician has the courage to do was, IMO, horrendous.  Call it what you want. If Christie wasn't being such an absolute dick about this, I wouldn't feel so strongly, but the guy gives arrogant a-hole new meaning.

I think many of us can agree that Christie was/is a dick, and that the conditions of the quarantine were sub-optimal, but the important question is: should healthcare workers be isolated from the public after doing high-risk work overseas? I think it's an obvious yes.

RcCle

Anyone else think she looks like Debbie Wasserman Schultz?

I won't argue that.  What raised my hackles was seeing a pandering hack like Christie order an American who'd done no wrong to be held in a starkly outfitted tent behind a hospital and gloat about it.

Christie is a dick, exhibit #11923293. Completely predictable behavior from him.

It's those horrendous living conditions.

These guys were perfectly healthy but were locked up for three weeks anyway;

Honestly, guys, why so many comments on her appearance?  We go with the hand we're dealt, and she looks healthy and like an adventurous person.  She's educated, well-traveled, fit...

Man, I don't think I'd ever post my ugly mug on this forum to await the frenzy of snark.

I think you'd be safe sending your pic to QuickKarl.  He seems like the non-judgmental, get-to-know-the-person kind of Bellgabber.  Also, he's a cuddler, which is important to me.

Yeah, but you have to remember buddy the ones commenting on her appearance and not her professional expertise are all finely toned Adonis with chiseled faces that have all the women dropping at their feet over.

Same with any woman, Men seldom if ever get referred to as 'Blond/ Brunette/ Red headed'  .......before saying who they are.

Hillary is not my pick. We need an anti-dynasty amendment to the Constitution.   Christie is Tommy Devito.

Abso bloody lutely. I don't know about anyone else here, but I wouldn't like to witness and deal with what she has. Less so go back home to a wall of hostility from those who have absolutely no idea what she's dealt with, nor would want to. The scum bag politico should be dragged into the Hudson river and keel hauled under a ferry. If he repents then he can go back home.

Wife? You know more than I do; unless you're referring to the ex's? As QK might say, wife's are for pussies, or have..or...I don't know. Something.

She has the best food in Jersey, the internet, her phone, laptop, TV, books, climate controlled living space, a damn comfortable bed and nothing but time.

I wish the HELL they would quarantine ME! I`d LOVE to have 3 weeks of peace and freaking quiet with nobody bothering me!

This woman is a shit bag:

http://www.today.com/health/nurse-kaci-hickox-says-she-wont-obey-maines-ebola-quarantine-1D80251330

Not willing to observe the quarantine at home either?  Fuck you, you ugly bitch!

Sorry West, but she is ugly...  eyebrowless freak.

She's selfish and doesn't understand that her being out and about will have a negative impact on society and the people she will come in contact with - whether or not she's actually got ebola.    Maybe if she hadn't been such a bitch, people wouldn't know if she snuck out here or there, but now everyone is going to be on the watch for her.   If I saw her coming towards my store, I'd say "back the fuck up, you red draped whore!"   (okay maybe I wouldn't say those exact words, but I would not let her come in).     I don't think that's unreasonable - if you had a dining establishment and you stood to lose 50% of your business because you were willing to serve her, don't you agree?

albrecht

Considering her political connections, that she scrubbed on Linked-In etc, and how, initially, her complaint was suspiciously going against Christie (who I can't stand) I would think she is more of a "me me me" person despite her work in Africa. What kind of nurse thinks of herself first and wouldn't mind risking other's health? Or is now threatening to leave her house in Maine and defy the lawful order for quarantine? And, of course, lawyers up.
-having said that. Is there a test yet for Ebola? I've seen stories either way. IF there is a reliable test, then simply test her (and others) and if no Ebola then let go (though I would hope most people would try to think of others and self-quarantine.)

-If there is no test then quarantine them. It is not like they are setting in some hut or village cut off from food or help style quarantine. Quarantine here means WiFi, cable tv, food and drink, not working, a/c or central heating, and great healthcare. If Africans can be quarantined in far worse conditions why can't we. It aint fair, right?

Rational countries in Africa, and now Australia, have rational national policies towards Ebola and those coming back from Ebola regions.

paladin1991

That's just swell.  So... IF... she does become positive and infects someone else.  What then?  Will she just be 'sorry 'bout that.  I thought I was cool. Hope you don't die.'
Fuck her.  Quarantine is only appropriate for folks who have been in the 'hot zone.'  Give 'em financial compensation for their time.  I don't care.  If she became the vector that infected someone in my family, I'd hunt her down if the ebola didn't eat her first.

Supposedly yes, but the question is how many times has the virus had to reproduce before it becomes visible to the test?   Can she be tested today and show negative and then two weeks from now test positive?

This woman is a shit bag:

I heard her speaking on the radio this morning and have to agree.  Perhaps she's just in a bad mood, and if so, she needs to shut up.  All that almost everyone is going to think and remember about her is what she's saying to the media right now, which makes her sound like a first class cunt-o-rama.

Also who can say that the "21 day" won't also be changed by a virus that could change? I hoping that they say "21 day" because they have built in a good buffer (like really it is a week from observation of how it spreads.) Still it is weird no seeming little concern a nurse has for others. All the other nurses, doctors, or the Christian volunteers didn't seem to mind erring "on the side of caution" as they say. And now the military, supposedly, is going to have quarantine procedures for our troops Obama sent over to the Ebola zone- but Obama says states, or the nation, shouldn't have such orders for civilians, volunteers, travelers, or immigrants coming from Ebola regions?
