I was thinking about renting that, but was on the fence.  I'll give it a shot based on your recommendation.

I hope you enjoy it.

We just saw The Signal today...total waste of time. I would not recommend it.  :P

Eddie Coyle

Cisco Pike, 1972. Pretty terrific film, albeit slightly dated. Kristofferson, Hackman and Stanton are top notch as usual. Hadn't seen this since 1991, but popping up on Retro lately.

The Hospital, 1971. Black humor mixed with reality. I think this film is superior to Chafevsky's Network.(Which Noory "loves"  ;)) and I'll watch anything with Diana Rigg back then.

Killing Zoe, 1994. One of the worst movies I've ever seen in the theaters. I was so impatient to see Pulp Fiction,(released 10/14/94) that I went saw this film(10/6/94) based on it's Tarantino links. It was and remains garbage. Heroin Chic mixed with needless, mindless violence. Some good acting wasted in a nihilistic script.

Albemuth

The Man from Planet X (1951) - Sci-Fi / monster flick with message similar to The Day the Earth Stood Still. Moodily set on the Scottish moors.

Big Top Pee Wee (1985) â€" Pee Wee falls in love and develops a more roguish/ladies man persona. Doesn’t quite work, but is watchable in an oddly weird sort of way. Kris Kristofferson as the circus ringmaster.

Dressed To Kill (1941) â€" Lloyd Nolan as Brett Halliday’s detective Mike Shayne. A fun and unpredictable who-done-it.

Sons of Anarchy - Episodes 1-90 (7 seasons) - Whew, glad this is over â€" wife was into this â€" and then I got hooked into it. A good show but really grim, bloody and depressing by the end of it.

Shadow of the Vampire (2000) â€" Best movie I’ve seen in a long time. John Malkovitch as director F.W. Murnau. Follows Murnau through the shooting of 1921’s Nosferatu. The plot revolving around the idea that actor Max Schreck (played by William Defoe) was a real vampire (as opposed to a reel vampire I guess.) I liked the way it built itself around this old silent movie (which I then had to go back and re-watch also.)

Saw "Philomena" several weeks ago.   Highly recommend it.

For any MST3K/ RiffTrax fans, the boys are back next week, lampooning "The Room" in theaters, hopefully one near you.  Always good for some much needed laughs.

I liked Philomena very much and second your recommendation. I'd also recommend The Magdalene Sisters which is another look into the dark side of those times of how they dealt with unmarried pregnant and "troublesome" girls.

I do so miss MST3K! I lost track of them. I've added The Room to my Netflix list, but they only gave it 1.5 stars! Must be one of those it's so bad it's good flicks? Worth a try.  ;)

Thanks, Pyewacket.  I'll put The Magdalene Sisters on my list.  Since I'm usually hiding from today's typical popular culture crap of Hip Hop, CGI, and the latest Fast and Forgettable, I sometimes miss the few good Hollywood productions.  Just happened to catch "Philomena" when I was doing a hotel overnight and caught it by accident on either HBO or Showtime.

If it's in your area, RetroTV is showing the old MST3K's on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.  It's still a hoot to watch Joel or Mike with the 'bots running commentary on some of the worst movies ever.  I also enjoy the live RiffTrax shows at the local movie theater with Mike, Kevin, and Bill cracking on some awful production.  Last years riffing of "Sharknado" brought me to tears.  ;D  I've never seen "The Room," but, yes, it's suppose to be a real stinker so it should be hilariously mauled by the Riffers.  I can imagine the field day they'd have doing a running commentary of a Dave Noorie broadcast.

Off the top of my head, my favorite Christian Bale movies are 3:10 to Yuma, Public Enemies(Johnny Depp is the star, but Bale has an important part, the one Batman movie with Heath Ledger and Velvet Goldmine.

I really looked forward to Interstellar. What a letdown.

Some of us really liked Interstellar.

Thank you, It'sOver.  :) I have to warn you that there are some disturbing scenes of cruelty and nudity in The Magdalene Sisters, certainly tame in comparison to the usual movie fare.

We have METV in our area and they play all retro shows. I'll check and see if we have Retro TV available.

What a great show idea- an MST version of talk radio!  ;D

Watched The Kingdom again.  With my son.  Having to stop the DVD numerous times to explain the 'why' and 'how come' of US-6th century relationship that is the US and middle east.

Do you ever have some watchable stable thingy to fall back on… Yeah mine always goes back to Farscape. I'm kinda on this kick, at the moment, with having the next day off and one of my friends suggesting Other Space - (which was… eh…) It did make me want to go back and really want to take another look at Farscape. Another look, meaning that I have watched this entire series at least 3-4 times now. *smacks head* but… I've seen Star Trek growing up with the parents much, much more. In any case~ I NEVER, EVER hear this show mentioned, nope not at all. I think it's one of the best things out there in the genre. It weirds me out that no one ever mentions it. t's super late, but I'm just curious, does anyone here even know what I'm talking about? :P Here is an OLD, super old link: (I believe this vid was done for fans to raise money to make the movie… that they totally did make happen)

The Machinist:  Really weird "mind f*ck" movie - probably a 5 for both of us.

I saw that in a theater, I thought it was a really good movie but I didn't like it. If that makes any sense. Maybe I'll try to watch it again.

For that type of a movie, I liked "Memento" a lot more than "The Machinist."  I'd give "Memento" a 9 / 10.  We rented it about 6 weeks ago, and I want to buy it to add to my collection and watch it again.

I'm waiting for Falkie to post about his Noory interview today, so I just rented Keanu Reeves's "John Wick," which came out last year.  I liked it, and for the type of movie that it was, I'd give it an 8 / 10.  Without giving away details of the plot, I find it hard to compare to a regular movie.  It was extremely violent, which I knew going in and have absolutely no problem with.  If you haven't seen it and decide to watch it, just take it for what it is - an entertaining, stylish, bad ass action flick.  There's not much to the story, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Just watched Quartermass and the Pit. I first saw it as a 13 year old. I had such a discerning eye for true art.

I Spit On Your Grave, 1978 and 2010.

Two resounding arguments in favor of censorship. Mindless, nihilistic trash for the sub 75 IQ's that enjoy this shit. Clearly, the phrase "Why the fuck are we making this movie?" was never uttered by the collection of scummy shits who produced this vile pus. An utter absence of talent in both films.

Aaronofsky pulled this from the book of Enoch, which is non-canonical. In Enoch the angels begin courting and, subsequently, making babies with women, which pisses god off and causes them to be banished by God. In the film, they vaugely fall out of favor with god for unexplained reasons.

As for why they were rocks, I suspect there just wasn't a great way to illustrate their fall. By literally turning them into rock, they are cemented to Earth, creating a sharp contrast with their previous heavenly persona. Plus, studios love big monsters.

My favorite! I had nightmares about those insect Martians for weeks after I saw it as a kid. And everytime there's construction in the subway, I brace myself. Great film. Love Quatermass.

I rewatched Testament Not a barrel of laughs, but the acting is very good, particularly a very young Lucas Haas. I never noticed this before but Jane Alexander could pass for Alan Rickman's long lost twin sister.

Age of Ultron rocked my face off

Saw it today. I am not sure why, but I liked the first Avengers much more.

The Chitauri were somewhat cooler than an army of androids. But Ultron was cool. And the Vision was excellent.

Also Stan Lee makes yet ANOTHER awesome cameo. At 90++?

EXCELSIOR!

I watched the Don Cheadle movie "Traitor" (2008) last night.  I would have rated it a 7.5 / 10 based on the story and good acting, but the pro-Muslim message was too heavy handed.  A lot of the time, I felt like I was watching a propaganda piece (which, in truth, I probably was).  I have to knock it down to a 5 / 10 for that reason.  I liked the story, I liked the action sequences, and Don Cheadle gave an excellent performance.  I'm conflicted about recommending this film, but you can decide for yourself based on my comments.

We watched The November Man and it was excellent. Ex CIA agent drawn back in by a covert assignment. USA vs. Russia. Really plausible plot- scary in a way.

I rented this this evening based on the recommendation, and you did not steer me wrong.  My wife gave it an 8 / 10, and I give it an 8.5 / 10.  It belongs in the same league as the Bourne trilogy with Matt Damon.  Not quite as good, but similar in a lot of ways.  I usually like Pierce Brosnan movies, and this one did not disappoint.

I am still not sure if Willow sucked or whether I was just at a really awkward period of adolescence when I first saw it.
Willing to give it another chance. It is a movie that never gets play on cable.
And I won't mind feeling like a tool watching it in middle age.

I liked it, and you are right it gets very little play.
