Found it. First I do not know whe Alan Rice is but he was never a regular artist on Dare Devil. Comicon did start in 1970 but it was barely a comic book convention and more of a sci fi con. Mort Weisinger, the editor of Superman was not in attendance at those.

And after listening to his stories his mom never said no. He begged her for money and she would not give it. He asked for a grand to go to live wil Gates and he asked for $100 to go to the comic con.

From what Falkie tells us he had everything he could want growing up and at this point he was in his twenties living with his mom. He g=had left as an emancipated minor then came back to sponge off his mom.
