You're absolutely free at this instant to offer it for viewing in any form or venue you can arrange. But the problem is, at least this week, you still can't force people to watch it. (Hold on - there are still almost 3 years left in this administration, and I guarantee that a proposal for government-mandated viewing of some film or video is on some adminstration functionary's desk as we speak). The problem is you confuse market forces and the exercise of free will with censorship. A common European failing.

Market forces are a form of censorship..If a commercial radio station depends on ads to survive then it goes without saying the companies decide what can and can't be broadcast. If they don't like it, they are defining what the audience like, or don't like.

We have had the occasional DJ taking it on themselves to refuse to play a certain song (Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Relax is memorable)..A certain Mike Read refused to play it on it's first airplay, he lifted the stylus part way through, and became all pious and sanctimonious on air..naturally it hit the headlines and the song spent the next billion weeks (undeservedly) at number one..But if the station (BBC Radio 1) hadn't even given it airplay, no one would know to make an informed choice; If MR had just played it, sure it would be popular but the fuss wouldn't have been generated. Daily Mail mentality; Be all holier than thou, and make false fuss.... The thing that happened with the Genesis song in the States was radio stations didn't play it because they knew it would piss off the companies playing the ads (some of whom will be connected to the very people being parodied), so they paid the piper and in this case didn't have the tune played.

To say that means one can also say it's a form of democracy.  Down the chain from self-censoring DJ's and stations, down past their customers the advertisers (who haven't actually said a word about what should not be played), a significant number of people ultimately must not want to hear it to the point there will be controversy if it is played.

I see; so if a suit in an office decides the audience isn't worthy/ mature/ open minded enough to cope with something they feel controversial, it's okay to be the self appointed censor? And who is the significant number to decide for the rest? Art and music, and it's distribution should be decided by a significant number? Or the one?
