Lmao.

I remember playing Baldur's Gate and listening to Art.  Good times.

That was a damn fine game.

Imagine an Art Bell's Dark Matter channel - Live shows with replays throughout the day, including his old library that SiriusXM purchased from Premiere. I'd probably never get any work done.

Quite frankly that's how it could have worked. Art is an icon. He could have tried to buy the rights to his old stuff like Howard did and start his own channel with guest hosts and other shows. It would have taken time and money but Sirius could have cornered a niche market in long form radio.

Actually,  I don't call because I don't have any other info.
Anything I know, I've shared.
(Oh, and did I mention I was shy?)

As for Art being "flaky", He's actually one of the most un-flaky people
I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and I've known him as a good
close friend for over 14 years now.

Paul, I read somewhere that the courts do not count internet "streaming" as a "radio broadcast", and people have gotten away with internet streaming, even though they have a "non-compete clause" Has this been investigated? Have we any hope? My "on demand" shows all of the shows expiring in two days. That is the writing on the wall in my opinion. :( Really sad here :(

...I am starting to wonder if there is some behind the scenes pressure coming from elswhere because otherwise this was a total win-win situation.

You'd better believe the powers-that-be aka "elsewhere" want influence over a show that provides unscreened open-line access to

I think Art is just a very passionate guy. He's an artist. If this was the 1800s, he'd be slicing his ear off and mailing it to a girlfriend, or if it was the 1200s he'd be rallying the Mongol hordes to invade T'ang Dynasty China. It's just how he is. Passion isn't the same as flakiness, it just means that a lot of what he does operates in a different kind of world, and often that world comes into open conflict with the more unimaginative world of waking life.

His taste in music, I think, speaks to this. Most of the songs he chooses are haunting, transcendent, apocalyptic at times, yet grounded and earthy. I'm especially thinking of Dancing Queen. There's an air of sadness, of hope, and of a wish to break free from these pinion walls of grey and engage a deeper, more fundamental reality --- to inhabit, perhaps, another sky. His deep interest in time travel --- probably the least likely of any of art's regular topics --- speaks to this, too.

God bless you art. May constipated and insolent spiders never lunch on your neckfat again.

jc is funny.

Hearing JC was one of the highlights of this short odyssey (if that's not an oxymoron).  I just love the guy!

Paul, did you have a hard time getting guests on the show because it isn't widespread terrestrial radio? Or is Art's name enough to get whoever you wanted?
Did any of your guests NOT know who Art was?

God I hope there's some other Danzig fans on this board:

DANZIG feat. Cherie Currie - Some Velvet Morning ***NEW 2013***

This sounds like shit, by the way.

I know Sean David Morton turned them down. Later he said on his own show that "Strange Universe" was bigger than Art Bell's, so why bother?

I want to get over this Sirius Matter and get back to Dark Matter.

I heard him say on his show that Sean asked and was refused. I do not know the truth of the story.

Fascinating, I am sure.

I thought Art had him scheduled, but dumped him after he found about his SEC conviction for securities and investment fraud.

Ewww -- I don't like knowing that they even approached SDM.  I think he's a grifter.

Other way around. He was scheduled until Art was "made aware" of these documents:

Well at least I never ever have to listen to TMZ again.

I tried to listen but the video player kept freezing and the audio would cut out. I finally gave up. Is it downloadable anywhere?

...but then he started talking about moving all his assets back to the Philippines. ....and he didn't make any mention about a contingency plan for continuing the show--he just made it clear if there was a default he was outta here.

Yes he did. I heard him. He said he can broadcast from the Philippines he's done it before.

Yes it did feel a bit like he was faultering a bit towards the end. It was probably due more to the non reponse to the kind of environment he suddenly found himself in.

Yer right. Let me rephrase that: Sean David Morton claimed he was scheduled and Art turned him down. I wish I knew what Morton's birthday was again and I could track down the show he said this on.

Wasn't he the guy who plagiarized market research reports on the air and then took credit as a prophet/fortune-teller whenever the analysts got it right?

SDM was one of the biggest and most re-occurring guests for years, for those who might not be aware. He recently did an interview with John Wells, where John Wells went off on the American people.  :o
