You think HE got duped? Gotta disagree there, and I believe he has an excellent grasp on technology, especially for someone almost touching 70 years of age.

Not always true... many ham guys are really really stuck in the analog days.

Arkipelago

Looks like Art is back to working at Taco Bell....

I think they told him to tell us to ixnay on the eamstray. Art said no, he countered with not only will I not but I want you to run a stream, then she slammed the bedroom door on him. Guys, I think it's our fault that mom and dad are fighting.

AB, it's those damn truckers.  And cell phones.  And those spiders he keeps seeing.  Spiders, they're everywhere!

Something to consider:  SiriusXM probably has a relatively huge net financial loss with Art's early departure.  Even though they are large enough to absorb the financial hit, there are plenty of conference calls and meetings going on this week discussing lost investment, misdirected personnel, resources and time, and maybe...maybe... a bit of a root cause analysis to determine why and how Dark Matter came to an abrupt end.  Any changes that Art may have identified and required and which SiriusXM agrees with will effect other SiriusXM programs, not him.

Whichever way you look at it, Art's departure is messy and opportunistic.  His reason for leaving is thoroughly hollow, and his justification is only slightly buttressed by years of fan admiration that can blind even the most psychologically sound person.

It's a pet-peeve of mine when people neglect to even mention Android, just like Art. It was always about iPhone. Not sure why, but it sounds like my grandma.

Just another voice here to add I am so very disappointed. You hurt a lot of dedicated fans Art! No mas. Have a good retirement.

Do you think Sirius will be sending out the lawyers?

Asshole

Do you feel that? The way the shit clings to the air? Shit Blizzard

Group hug RetireeGab, Art doesn't deserve us.

Breach of contract, absolutely. Art won't be able to break away from the non-compete agreement and will slip further into irrelevance in those two years he's twiddling his thumbs at home. It's over.

Fuck it. Art can do whatever he feels. It seems irresponsible but he doesn't owe me anything personally. I am bummed about the loss of live threading. Mostly I'm pissed because I don't have an excuse to bug out from my social romper room with earbuds in, acting like I'm not available for conversation four nights a week. Geez, I guess I need to start working on my socialization skills again.

QFT and I am shocked--shocked!!--there are people in the world who did not see this coming.

Then again, I am shocked by a lot these days. Did you know? There are still people arguing about whether chemtrails even exist, or not! LOL

This is rather OT, but I must tell you--I actually HAVE done exactly that, and the results have been nothing short of thrilling and rewarding, in both my personal and professional life.

I think you meant "telling your boss" up there, but that's okay, I can tell you weren't hired for your linguistic proficiency.

Hey jblank, Noam Chomsky here has you pegged as a racist *and* a linguistic cretin.

WOW!

I agree.  Yes, it can seem irresponsible, I just don't think we've gotten the whole story.  It took years for some of us to learn the truth about the premiere issue.   I'm with Art.  I love his show and I'll follow him whenever he's broadcasting.

Possibly.  If only to make sure they get back some of their hardware (computers, etc.)

I wanted to add that SiriusXM's immediate loss is financial, but they are also increasingly inflicted with a loss of their "reputation".  In the end, more harm may be done to their image (and subsequent profits) than any one-time financial loss incurred by Art's departure.

He can just move to Russia and stream whatever he wants. The way you you guys use words like "can" and "able" are a total mystery to me.

It rather reminds me of that time your mother told me I wasn't going to be "able" to tell people how well I serviced her, frankly. Oops, I "can't" have done that, carry on.

Maybe Art should approach a tv station like Syfy or the like and have sort of a chat show (like a Jay Leno-esque type) with multiple guests.  It would be interesting to see those with differing opinions on a topic (could end up more like Jerry Springer, though!)  I mean, he has a pretty large radio fanbase, right?

(Dunno if anyone may have brought it up before. It could just be a stupid notion.  I have a lot of those....)

Ain't that the truth! Art has been since what the 90's talked about his antenna array and how much energy it creates just being there. And how many radios he fried before he figured this out? My first thought was ok, how many watts does it generate? Everything he said over the years, it could be less than a watt. Or it could generate thousands of watts. Art just doesn't know! Someone that incompetent, I don't know if I would trust them to install batteries correctly in a flashlight.  :(

Plasmaboy

Pretty shitty.

Been out of town and found out about Art bailing via email from this site while checking my inbox this morning.  I think the reason is total garbage, it's stupid to think any pay service is going to to allow there product to be handed out for free.  In regards to the cell phone thing, Art has to understand a lot of people don't even keep a landline phone these days.  I can count on one hand the number of people I know that actually still have/use one.  I also never had a problem listening to sirius, although I listen on a newish PC with a fiber connection.  I'm only $15 in hole over this so personally I'm not to upset, disappointed more than anything.

Arts a big boy though and this decision is his to make.  If he ever decides to do another show via some other means I will gladly listen, just don't expect me to pay a single cent for it after this fiasco.  Like I said I'm only down $15, but it's the principle more than anything. Also, some of you peeps should probably chill with the personal attacks, if I was art and read that kinda shit it sure wouldn't motivate me to get back on the air.

Cheers.

And so, once again--how did you not see this coming?

Bonus Credit: Art has "retired" no less than six thousand, four hundred and twenty-eight times since 1975. What makes any of you think that "this one" is the "last one"?

ppphhhhhbbbfffftttttt!
