i will admit... that was a major failure on our part.

That was $786.31 in Lasagna trays that I'll never get back.

I refuse to take part in anything that is well organized!

Hear hear!  Hitler made organization really stink.

What do you expect when you invite a bunch of cats?

Never mind, I'm tired of beating that dead horse. Hopefully a lesson was learned and things will go well this time.

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that we had to invite them. For my part, I had my back turned toward them and made cracks about Heathcliff and Morris.

Haha.

Rereading what I wrote did come off as all rich cunty.

What I meant to infer was that my wife just agreeing to let me go without her and the kids would be a bigger issue than raising funds meaning that raising the funds won't be necessary.

If anyone would like to donate then please click the Donate link at the top of this page. MV will forward to me all donations marked with For Jazmunda. ;) :P

That being said, I for one really want Onan to look like is avatar. That would be great if the actual DUDE walked into the room.

I vote for anonymity. We figure it out as we ride.

i don't know what he looks like, but in talking to onan, he sounds way more "dude" than i'd expected prior.

The Festival Express of Artdom!

I can only imagine what that train must have smelled like.  Weed, hippie sweat and  patchouli
One of my fav films. A few days in, the entire train ran out of alcohol and they had to stop and bought out a Canadian liquor store!

What kinda hippie am I, not knowing about (The Festival Express)?
You need to watch the film to get the full effect. It was wonderful: riding across Canada by train with about 50 Canadian rock stars and buddies. Ride 24 hours, drink whiskey and play all night long in the club car, stop and do a show, get on the train and do it all over again for about 8-10 days. Can you imagine? Never before seen intimate shots of Janis and Rick Danko up all night and just grooving on jamming with each other. To me it's the best rock film ever done except for The Last Waltz.

Heh. The promoters/backers essentially just gave up on the idea of making any money. Loved how they were buying Nebuchadnezzar bottles of Canadian Club or some kind of immense amount of liquor in a single bottle. Anything to keep the talent happy. Did they have enough Southern Comfort for Janis?

I remember seeing a trailer for this a number of years ago but must have forgotten about it. Damn you grass, you beautiful noxious weed.

I just went to youtube to see if I could see a trailer of it and what do you know it has the entire movie.

This is what I am watching tonight if anybody is interested.

Thanks for the heads up Sardoni.

The Grateful Dead, Flying Burrito Bros, Buddy Guy, The Band, even Sha Na Na - they were mostly Americans.

My 2 favorite parts were of course when they ran out of booze, stopped the train, and bought that store out, and early on when the kids at the first stop decided the shows should be free and were tearing the fences down - Jerry Garcia comes out talk to the crowd and is sounding so much like Jerry, talking about creating 'a new vibe, a different scene, man', and all that.  I miss having Jerry around.

The guy that put it on took a bath on it.  His son is the one that released the tapes after finding them in the garage or somewhere like that.  There were supposedly hundreds of hours of film, I wish they would release some more of it.

Not so fast there. I still remember when I was in my first year of law practice. I was with a small firm which did a general grab bag kind of practice you'd expect in a small town. One day at 4:30 I got called in by the lead partner and told I'd have to cover for him with a couple of female clients who were scheduled to appear in a city court that night for a trial on charges of drunk driving, assault on police officers(!) and destruction of city property arising out of a single-car wreck when they ran over a stop sign and then let things get out of control when the cops came. The partner told me it was a big misunderstanding and that I should just try to work something out so that they the driver got a suspended sentence, they paid for the stop sign and then to see if the cops involved would be satisfied with an abject apology from the women so tat the embarrassment of fighting with two tiny, demure women didn't get dragged into public court.

From what the partner told me I just couldn't believe it could be all that serious, especially since it was two women defendants. Besides, this was 1980, and we still expected women to be demure. Anyway, the partner told me the clients would meet me outside of the police court at 6:00 p.m., and that the ladies would have the short "Dorothy Hamill" haircuts which were still popular in those days.

So I go to the police court and wait for my clients. But they never show. All I see are two truck drivers, who were identically dressed dressed in dark ball caps, red plaid shirts with sleeves rolled up, jeans, those huge leather rear-pocket wallets with a 2-foot-long wallet chain attaching them to their belts, and Doc Martens. They could have been twins except that one guy was considerably taller, heavier and more muscular, with a faint military style mustache.

And then I looked closer. The two twin "truck drivers" were my clients. Judy and Sheila. They were roommates, they said. I was aghast. My life passed before my eyes as I thought about what was just about to happen to them and to me when we went into that courtroom. I told them to not move, and by no means to go into the court room. I went in and begged a continuance from the judge for one week, so that the partner could be back and represent his clients himself. Then I went back outside and told the women to go home and come back in a week dressed differently, and at least in a pants suit if not a skirt. There was no way in hell they should ever show up for trial looking they could kick the butts of any three guys. Seriously, it was like something out of a movie it was so ridiculous. No way in hell was I going to be able to win an assault case when the bigger of these women went about 210lbs. and looked she was ready to rumble with her wallet chain and her Doc Martens stompers. The partner had clearly tried to sidestep a little embarrassing situation and have the baby lawyer handle it all instead. The asshole. So I just handed it back to him.

I don't know how that thing turned out. But I leaned then that you should never assume that a woman would be easy to pick out of a crowd.

There was never enough SC for Janis! Sad really. She died so young. She could really belt out the vocals. I never fully appreciated her talent until a few years ago, when I saw this movie ^^ and "Monteray Pop Fest".
That huge bottle was spiked with LSD or pills (probably both)  seconds after they opened it. The train wheels never actually touched the tracks!
The original "Rock Star" lifestyle, IMHO. I need to watch it again.

Hate cigarettes and hate the stench of booze and smoke permeating human bodies.

You may want to think twice about attending GabCon...
