I remember the hipster Pabst fad.  I never would drink Pabst.  I'm sure it's fine but I had a bad association with it because when I was working in a bar a customer drinking Pabst wet his pants. It stood out in my  mind because Pabst was an Eastern beer we sold very little of.  My alcoholic uncle also drank a lot of Lucky and wet his pants, so I had a bad association with that.  Also when my boss in Missoula bought the bar, the previous owner had had some sweetheart deal with the distributor and we had Lucky til heck wouldn't have it.  We finally marked it down and sold it. I got sick on Olympia when I was a teenager.  Still won't touch the stuff, except occasionally on tap, actually when somebody gets a keg.

The reason Pabst turned into the hipster beer is because for some reason a lot of bars - at least in the city of San Francisco - have it, and it is the cheapest beer on tap.  And rightly so, it's utter crap.

And I might as well say it, Jack Daniels is one of the worst, if not the worst, of the rot-gut Whiskeys.  Yet there was a time when it seemed like just about every rock 'n roll band had a bottle of it on stage, and tons of movies had it as product placement.  Not to mention the folksy down-home commercials and magazine ads.  So it became 'cool'.

One time I was hitch-hiking my way thru China - back when they had just opened the door a tiny crack to Westerners, and westerners were 'supposed to' be there only in tour groups.  It seemed like every tiny shop, every hovel, had a small cabinet containing 'treasured' items.  One day I'm in some town in the middle of nowhere and go into a small store to see if they have anything drinkable (usually the local orange soda), while I'm looking around, in the back this tiny cabinet, is a dusty, unopened bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer - that had to have been there for years if not decades.  Seeing that treasured bottle of truly awful beer was one of the most memorable things of that entire trip

That must be an old poster from an Aber Day kegger.  Don't get me started on Aber Day.

It was the Fairway Lounge, in Tremper's shopping center in Missoula, which he renamed Squire's Pub. The package store remained Fairway.

On second thought, get me started on Aber Day.

The Fairway, that's in the stripmall out on Brooks if I remember right. And I made it to the last 2 "real" Aber Day keggers!

to be honest though, I don't remember much beyond the first couple of hours each day

That's right.  When I have more time, I'll tell a few stories.

That's a;; I got Muldr...

other than UNITA BREWING, & they are a bunch of Mormons cashing in...

As you were...

I like shock top & new castle. But i will drink pretty much anything.

I hate Corona, bud, and miller. I dislike hipster brews where they try to pack as much hops in as possible, these are the trendy micro-brews.

I haven't found much of a difference between the many ciders. Mikes is what I would drink if I had to have cider

I'm not much of a cider guy. I like Mackenzie's the best of them all. (http://www.mckenziesbeverages.com/)

My uncle likes to experiment with making "hard" cider by putting yeast and grain alcohol in a cider jug. It tastes like grain alcohol diluted in cider.

Those big 2 liter jugs of Strongbow. Share it in the park with the yobs and harass women and girls. Or Buckfast, which isn't really a cider and not really a wine but some odd combo of both.

Bulmers Irish Cider, marketed as Magners outside of Ireland.  There is also a Bulmers cider sold in the UK, but it's not the same product. Great going down, but for whatever reason cider gives me God awful hangovers.  Never again.

I would suggest something organic from Spain. I would also suggest getting one of everything available. Kinda depends on where you're at. Getting one of everything organic from Spain is gonna set you back, there's no two ways about that.

Worth it.

See, I'm like this with beer and strontium-90. It's weird.

This reminds me of when I found the eggnog kefir: thinking that, I love eggnog and I love kefir, I thought I was going to be in for a great time, but actually it turned out that it was almost exactly like sour cream with nutmeg.

I liked it, but I'll be honest--I can't recommend it with a straight face.

I don`t normally drink beer, but when I do, I drink:

Yeah... Also being a fan of eggnog and kefir, they do sound like things that are best enjoyed separately.

I had a beer at the game last night.  Blue Moon and wish I had tried it with the orange slice.  I liked it.  Surprised me cuz I usually don't.

I am much more of a good red wine kind of girl.  I heard of a lady who puts lilac flowers in her wine and was intrigued.  Mojitos are good too.  Next stop AA
BlueMoon is a good Micro.  As far as Reds go - I'm a Cabernet Sauvignon  kind of guy. ;)

It has always been interesting to me how brands change and go through ownership (and brewing) and how brands can be the most popular (Schiltiz) and then fade away or others can be low popularity (Pabst) but find a new market in hipsters without trying too (at first.) Or how a local brand can be bought (and even expanded, or destroyed) by other companies.
Such august popular brands as: Rainer, Pabst, Lonestar, Olympia, Pearl, Hamms, Falstaff, Old Style, National Bohemia, etc etc go through odd stages of popularity. Sometimes almost disappearing and then, like the mighty Phoenix, to reappear again- sometimes in odd places. (I've paid high $$ for a Lonestar in Georgetown decades ago because of the novelty, at the time.) As companies, conglomerates, etc take up their brand or the various shake-ups in distribution and brewing. Or when new brewers try to resurrect that market (or a combo of both.) All I mentioned are in the "cheap beer" category. And on purpose.
LOL
Blatz is still $8.95 a case
How about Oconto beer? Ooops, sorry, that's been out of production since '73. Wasn't that good anyway, but it was cheap.
How 'bout Point, not bad  - still in production.
Old Mil is my poison of choice. ( Pitt party beer. )
Stay away from Black Label though, and Schaeffers. Blahh -unless you like drinking perfume  a.k.a. formaldehyde.
Yes, I'm from Wisconsin.

Oh yah, Blatz splats. :o

I've been a big fan of Point Special for over forty years, and remember when it was only available within a few miles of Stevens Point. I traveled to northern Wisconsin frequently for many years and always stopped at the brewery to load up the car with as much as it would hold. I can get it now where I live, and I'm amazed at how many varieties they brew.  For a long time, Special was their only flavor.

I had a friend from Portage in the seventies who had a sixties Chevy Impala wagon that was the same dark blue as the Point Special cans. Another friend of his had painted an excellent Point logo on the hood--it was pretty snazzy!

I recommend staying away from the Huber bock, though. My local liquor store just got some twelve packs of bottles that are going for $8.99, so I picked one up the other day and it leaves a lot to be desired--way too sweet and syrupy.  Oh well.

I love the ideas of Trappist monks subsisting on beer for certain times and fasts. What an idea! It is also interesting how some of the breweries (and in some cases distilleries) in those regions have existed for so long, even when country's borders, kings and rulers, religious affiliations, and world wars change and happened! Visit Belgium and there are so many breweries it is insane and you can buy beer (usually the mainstream stuff like Jupiter) at coke machines.
ps: my only issue with most of those beers is so sweet and so much sugar, especial Lambaics. Big hangovers.
