Looking forward to hearing how it goes!

I'll keep everyone posted! Who knows if anything else that I have is not currently in circulation, but that 1st hour of Siegel's 1st show seems to be a little slice of history that isn't out there.

Yes, turning off your internal mic should solve the problem.  I remember it was pretty simple to do, but off the top of my head I don't recall how.

Yes, sure, I'd be happy to share the old Art Bell shows I have.  My problem is I am not a tech wiz either, so I need some help.

The way I have preserved the cassettes so far is to put them on a CD.

I don't know how to upload them to the internet or create MP3.

I hope I have done this right so far.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Are they on the CD as .mp3 files, or was it burned to play in a cd player?

Bodhi1111

Thanks Willie,

They were burned to play in a CD player.  I don't think the MP3 option is available in the set up I have.

williedee

ah i see. you'll have to rip them to .mp3 files if you want to share them with us.

Bodhi1111

Willie, Is that easy to do?  Do you know how?

Juan

Itunes is free and will rip a CD to mp3.  You have to go into the preferences and set it to rip to mp3, otherwise it will rip to an Apple format.

I think I finally got the noise issues sorted out (by turning off the internal mic). Thanks again for everyone's help!

Its no different than ripping music cds.

here's a video on how to change your windows media player settings to rip to mp3 (assuming you're running windows 7)
How To Rip A CD To MP3 Format Using Windows Media Player

and here's an article about ripping.

Thanks Willie, I'll check it out.  Yes, I use Windows 7, good assumption.  ;)

So I put the list together of the tapes I have been able to find so far (I know some of the missing tapes in the official recordings I have must be in my house somewhere), and mikealden was kind enough to cross-reference them with a list of currently circulating shows. Here is my list of previously unavailable shows that I will work to transfer

Official Art Bell Coast to Coast AM Network Tapes:
050595 (Scallion) Tapes 1, 3, 4 - Still trying to locate tape 2
031997 (Hoagland) Tapes 1, 2, 4, 5 - Still trying to locate tape 3
072498 (North) All 4 Tapes
122198 (Dames) All 4 Tapes
093099 (Paglini) Tapes 1, 2, 4 - Still trying to locate tape
051601 (Smith/Targ) Tapes 1 & 2 - Still trying to locate tape 3

Art Bell Coast to Coast AM - Personally recorded live from WLS-AM 890 unless otherwise noted
033100 (Hoagland) Joined in progress 60 minutes, includes Art's retirement announcement
041800 (Jim Berkland) Hour 1
042000 (Reed/Raith) Hour 1(This should be a significant sound quality upgrade over what is out there now)
042600 (Art Bell's "Final Broadcast) Hours 1-4 WLS, Hour 5 WTAM fair quality (some static in this hour but still istenable)
042700 (Mike Siegel 1st show) Hour 1
020601 (Open Lines) Hour 1
DATE UNKNOWN (Open Lines) 45 minute Art Opens a line for people who have tried to lick their elbow (seriously)

I also have 2 hours of an interview with John Lear that I never marked and have no idea when it is from. I will upload it, feel free to try to figure out when it is from.

It will be a bit of slog for me to transfer these, but I'll work on it. These are old, relatively cheap cassettes in some cases so I have to be very careful with them. Apparently there is a lot of interest in the 4.26.00 show so I am going to work on that first. I am going to save the 050595, 031997, 093099, and 051601 for last, as I really want to find the missing tapes to complete those shows before uploading them.

I am going to create a YouTube page for these shows and will upload them there. I enjoy hearing the commercials (and I don't want to spend too much time editing), so I am keeping them in. For anyone who cares, the official tapes were purchased off ebay in two separate ebay lots years ago (there are a couple Punnett Coast shows from 01 and one Hilly Rose show as well), and the WLS ones I recorded myself on little tape deck in my room as a kid. I'm glad I kept those, had no idea some of them were *rare*.

Definitely, thank you for the tip - sorry if I didn't mention that in my original post! You definitely saved me a lot of time, aggravation, and money.

Can I just say how intrigued I am by the "elbow licking" open lines?

So I just uploaded the following show in Widespread's archive:

2000-04-26 - Art Bell - Farewell - Kaku

This is the Art's farewell show in 2000. The first 3 hours of the show were recorded by me in Chicago off of WLS 890 AM in extremely good quality. Hours 4 and 5 were recorded by me off of WTAM 1100 (as WLS didn't carry the end of the show). These hours have some static and a few brief dropouts, but are very listenable in my opinion.

I've only had the chance to convert one show so far (4.26.00), and it is here http://coast.willstare.com/data/public/5d6d86.php#1 in the 2000 archive.
