Time To Replace Coast?

It's obvious that Coast won't get a new main host. Let's pretend that we can remove and replace it. List some of your substitutions. Imagine that you can choose a replacement for Coast.

Richard Syrett, called the Canadian Art Bell, came to mind. He filled in for Noory once or twice. He definitely hosted the 4/24/09 Coast show. He did a great job. He hosted a Canadian program about conspiracy theories and paranormal events for a while. When it went against Coast in its market, it consistently beat it. It sometimes beat it by two share points. It was extremely popular in Canada.

Ground Zero came to mind too. I heard bits and pieces of it now and then. Clyde Lewis, the host, was very engaged in the conversations. They *were* conversations, not scripted replies. It sounded fresh and new, like Coast likely sounded in the past. I missed Bell's glory days. :( Although the program received mixed reviews on Coast Gab, what I heard was very good. It was nice to hear an awake, aware host who knew his material quite well.

Of course, an alternative show hosted by Knapp or Simone would be embraced by many people here. Both hosts could do well as captains of new ships on the airwaves. There likely is a faceless, nameless person who would do a fine job as the host of a new show too. Some of them might even post here.

I just this instant hit the wall on this question: I think C2C's day is done, and it is unrecoverable. I agree that if PremRad and Clear Channel hasn't replaced George by now that they are quite happy with his performance, and that nothing is going to change there.

But is the answer a replacement program in the same genre? I'm willing to see, but I wonder if part of the problem is that the subject matter is worn out. Should we be asking the question, "Is paranormal radio over?", (as I just posted in the main, oldest "Art Bell" thread - not the 329th "Art Bell" thread, which a new member started 2 days ago without bothering to see how many others already existed).

I as well like Canuck Richard Syrett very much, and yes, he did a splendid job when guest hosting C2C way back (he only hosted once, I believe). I recall the callers praising him for a show well done.

Where I reside, we pick up Canadian radio programs crystal clear -  sans computer and sirius channels (I am an avid fan of CBC Radio One programs...very thought-provoking and informative). Richard Syrett hosts a late Sunday radio program, "The Conspiracy Show with Richard Syrett". It runs on Toronto's AM740 station from 11:00 pm thru 1:00 am, and he and his guests provide an engaging and intelligent two hours. He cuts straight to the chase (no "news") and while there have been a couple of clinkers, the remaining programs have been top notch. He's a healthy skeptic, highly articulate, and is in fine command of his interviews - they never go off the rails.

From what I've been told, his show beats out C2C for that time period in the Toronto ratings (C2C airs nightly there from 9:00 pm thru 3:00 am (two shows) for Sunday. His show is, yes, very popular, not only in Canada, but as well in the U.S. Northeast (Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, New York State, etc.). There's talk his show is expanding to three hours, and a couple of more days per week. I hope so.  His show is expanding in the U.S., and airs on affiliates in Atlanta, Charleston, and I think Denver.

I have a feeling Curious George was very jealous of Richard's guest hosting, as callers to George's show the following night again complimented Syrett. Noory,  most likely feeling threatened, has never had Syrett guest host since then.

I doubt PremRat would replace c2c with anything similar.
They would only make a change if the ratings took a serious drop, and even then they would probably just replace it with late night replays of one of their top rated day shows like Rush Limbaugh.

I agree with Onan. It's the host, not the subjects. New generations of fans will come and go. They'll seek out their own sources of information. Coast might not be one of them. A good competing radio show might be. I agree with your point about repetition and saturation, though. That's why it's vital to stay fresh. Noory-hosted Coasts sound stale because they don't cover current events, within the genre, like other sources do. The Anomalist is a good source of paranormal news. I swear that I'm not affiliated or associated with it. In any case, strange events are here to stay, and they need to be covered by *some*one.

I might have confused a Syrett show with a Simone show. It indeed was no coincidence that Syrett never was asked to guest-host a second program. Bad George probably felt too envious and too insecure due to the cavalcade of compliments for his substitute. He didn't want to share the praise from his callers. Like you said, Syrett walked the fine line between belief and skepticism. That balance made his Coast more enjoyable than many of the other ones. It was good to read that his program spread into the States. It beat Coast in their competition, which demonstrated the real reason why Noory's Coast did well in some markets....monopolization.

I don't doubt it. Let's pretend that you can replace Coast with the program of your choice.

I have already replaced C2C on most nights with one of the following:
The Paracast: http://www.theparacast.com/
The Inception Radio Ntework (Epic Voyages/Future Theater/Texas UFO Radio/Jerry Pippin): http://tunein.com/radio/Inception-Radio-Network-s126357/
The Kevin Smith Show: http://www.kevinsmithshow.com/
Veritas with Mel Fabregas: http://www.veritasradio.com/pastshows.html
Kate Valentine UFO Show: http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheKateValentineUfoShow
UFO Paranormal Network: http://paranormalradionetwork.org/
Binnall of America: http://binnallofamerica.com/
UFONaut: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ufonaut
Red Ice Radio: http://www.redicecreations.com/radio/nonsubscriber.php
Dark Matters: http://www.dqrm.com/programs.php
Jeff Rense: http://rense.com/
Most of them have free archived shows.  You have to listen over your computer.  Some are way out there but at least once a week they will have something that resembles the old C2C from Art Bell days.

It's cool dude don't let the chilly reception throw ya off.  I can't say I really mind rehashing certain things if they're asked in a new way... and you include polls all the time which is fun.  That being said there are WAAAAAY too many Art Bell threads here.  Just look around and see if something similar is already posted... if you feel like you're making a new point or asking a new question that warrants a new thread then fire away... otherwise be careful! The old guard can be very unforgiving here.

Hey Thunderbird, I don't think you're a moron. You came to this forum for the same reason we all did, and you have every right to post what's on your mind. That said, just take a peek at the created threads prior to starting your own, that's all.
Welcome.

And whoever created that poll, I think you left your brains back in your old high school locker. That's pretty low.

yes, just like you are actually t-bird...

Time to replace coast? You outta date son. The only thing that could replace coast at this point is a four hour program of how to properly prepare garden compost. Either that or Noory turns coast into something like they Tom Lykus show where Noory pimps is bitches and how to score on women over 65 in a bar. Smoking tumeric to increase libido studies of shown, to increase male ejaculation even while impotent. And you thought you all knew where NOreee was goin with all that tumeric talk, beh
