Listening to him jump from alpha brain wave patterns induced by reading and holding a book to Nudie Cohn's creations to the Beatles to John Lennon to the meaning of titling his new album "3 Pears" to the DNA transmission of why an Appalachian will take umbrage while a New Yorker shrugs to his early interest in computer programming to being an autodidact to his apologizing for rambling while the host is spellbound ... was riveting.

The preceding doesn't mention everything covered in the short interview, and I'm sure, not in its original order.

If you don't like what he has to say, and how he delivers it, you would absolutely hate shooting the shit with me. Seriously.

I heard an interview of him when the song "honkytonk man" was being played on mtv. He is interesting and even though he can cover 40 subjects in 2 paragraphs, he is easy to follow and understand. I have been a fan of his for a long time and I hate country music.

Good song. I grew up on Johnny Horton (North to Alaska, Whispering Pines, Sink the Bismark, Comanchee) and Yoakam did a good remake.

He was great in Sling Blade. He's like a Kris Kristofferson type, a very complicated guy who is far more intelligent than most everyone in his genre of music.

I, too, was raised on Johnny Horton.  Love his music.  Love the old story tellers like Horton, Marty Robbins, etc.  I, however, despise anything considered modern country music.  To me, it's all twang and just pain to my ears.

Liked Dwight since Guitars, Cadillacs, although for the last decade or so his music has been less important than his acting. I've always thought of him as a less weird and self-conscious Lyle Lovett. I have to admit his popularity with the ladies could have a lot to do with a smoldering video/screen persona and the way his legs look in those faded/torn jeans. Funny how someone can get the buzz and becomes the must-have stud of the moment. There was a time in the 90's when Dwight was prime date material for all kinds of actresses and music stars, and had longer relationships with then-A-lister Sharon Stone, Bridget Fonda & Wynonna Judd...did he even date the top of the hipster food chain, Wynona Ryder? Although it seems like his Sharon Stone thing went publicly very toxic. What a surprise.

But I've lost track of him musically. I she still making records? Even if he isn't if he's toruing, he can still make a ton of money. Otherwise it looks like he's chosen to be an actor mostly. His on-screen bad-guy persona reminds me of a redneck Christopher Walken, although his Sling Blade role was less Walken's silent looming threat and more like the traditional over-the-top cruel step-father/mom's BF. I could live with him as a character actor or a niche- or specialty player.
