Didn't Art say countless times he wasn't going to announce his return due to safety concerns regarding the stalker?


I did have my own speculation about the significance of Art asking for help trying to get affiliates to carry the show.

How would you sell MITD to an affiliate?  A show with a fill-in host with no time-table for the star of the show to return.

"Hi, would you like to carry Art Bell's Midnight in the Desert with guest host Heather Wade?"

"Art's Bell?  Yes, I am looking for something to compete against C2C in my market.  What, what do you mean with the guest host though?"

"Well, Art isn't currently hosting the show right now due to safety concerns, he had a stalker that was coming around his property.  I do not know when he will be back hosting, if ever."

"Wait, you call here pitching Art Bell, but it's not Art Bell, and you have no idea if Art will return to hosting?"

"Umm, yes.  That would be correct"

I think after the short Sirius stint and then the bizarre reason that comes up for him to "have to" quit MITD, the show (now Heather) cannot with good conscience try to sell it as an "Art Bell show."  The poor unpaid intern would have to try to just sell it as a show with a new no-name host.  Unless Art agreed to come back often:  say, once a week or even more.  However, most pro terrestrial radio folk probably have Art pretty much written off as a flake at this point.
