true.  sometimes the whole davebot thing gets a little old, as there are often valid points to be made on both sides of an issue.

having said that...

i want to apologize to art and keith for referring to the non rss setup as "dog shit" a few days ago.  that was a little immature and heavy handed on my part.  you see, i was in the midst of a nicotine withdrawal at the time i typed that, and by the time i simmered down, my words were out there and it was too late to remove it.  even after months of zero nicotine intake, i still have occasional brief moments where i want to claw someone's face off.

The constipation doesn't help either.

If you're using an iPhone or an iPad you can go to My Podcasts and paste/enter the RSS feed into the Search field on My Podcasts and you'll be asked for your DMDN/MITD credentials and that will automatically subscribe you to the feed.

The RSS feed is a HUGE win for Team Art Bell.  Nice job Mr. Rowland.

using vlc for podcasts: http://www.howtogeek.com/173222/10-useful-features-hidden-in-vlc-the-swiss-army-knife-of-media-players/
basically open vlc , click view then playlists (or ctrl +l -lower case L) .
scroll down the left side until you get to podcasts
hover over podcasts until a + appears, then click the +
enter the url ( http://rss.darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/mitd/ ) then enter
enter your details then enter
your podcasts will now show up under "Dark Matter Digital Network >> Midnight In the Desert"

Cant figure it out in IOs land. Downcast works more easily.

Well the RSS feed doesn't work on Pocket Casts. Not sure why, maybe because it's not a public feed? My other private podcasts have worked with it.

This does not work as explained here.

At the risk of being redundant, Downcast is a much cleaner way to go. It actually works, unlike some of the things I have tried recently. DMDN or the rss feed address are not recognizable in Itunes or their lame ass podcast app. Similarly VLC is a no go in IOs. Perhaps I am inept, but gee, why shoud you have to be ept to pull this off?

Pocket Casts doesn't work with feeds that require a use rid and passwords.

Copy the link to the clipboard.  Paste it in the little area that says "Search my Podcasts". It will ask if you want to subscribe.  Say yes and it will ask for your dark mater use rid and password.

I did just that. It does not recognize the link. Are we talking IOs implementation here or something else?

For what it's worth, it took me three tries to finally quit.  That was because I did not know what to expect.  It was cold turkey and I did it finally by lying to myself so that I really believed it.  I promised myself, whenever I had a craving, that I would definitely have one an hour from now. It's not so hard to wait just an hour if you really believe it's a sure thing.  I read that AA used that technique.

The thing was also that I thought, months later, that I could have just one.  I quickly went up to my old addiction level.  Now, years later, I can take it or leave it and I leave it.

Congratulations on being so successful.  You'll live longer because of it.

Makes sense. Though my HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast subscription works. Though that's because my ID is tied to a specific RSS feed URL private key rather than an ID. Too bad this couldn't have been setup that way. Pocket Casts is the only app I use.

OK Bell Gabbers we are asking for your help as Beta testers. We have been working non-stop over the weekend to get an RSS feed working for you. We’ve done some testing on podcast players that we have, but you all have your own favorites. So using your Time Traveler login go to this URL and either click with your browser to launch your default player or enter the URL directly into the player software app. If your podcast player supports authenticated RSS feeds, then you should get a list of shows.

http://rss.darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/mitd/   or for RCH http://rss.darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/osom/

You may have to enter your login info twice, once for the browser and once for the podcast player app. This is normal and only occurs once.

This is just the beginning and we hope to wack out bugs as the week goes on. Many thanks to Bellgab’s “sbaustin" and your humble webmaster k_rowland. We will go public as soon as we feel it is ready, but the URL won’t change so feel free to continue using the feed.

Art

The first link worked for me on my iPhone using Safari. I had to log in to my DMDN account twice.

That's pretty cool - works great .. no problems. Thanks for the tip!! I have VLC on a couple of my PCs including my Home Theater PC -- looking forward to hearing Art in surround sound.  :D

try pasting it into the Safari browser or just click on the link. If you do it that way it should open the IOS podcast app, but it will ask you for your use rid and pw twice.

I did it both ways on my iPhone 6 and iPod 2 (both are running 8.4)

A desperate move on whorge and premRAT's part. Also stupid. Because if people have a choice of listening to The Master that we waited 2 years for or looking at Snoory's fugly mug, 99% will chose Art Bell.

if you are using an app that doesn't support an authenticated feed like pocket cast, try the url like this:

http://email:password@rss.darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/mitd

It *should* work.  An example would be   http://yomamma@isfat.com:password@rss.darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/mitd

In that example my dmdn login was: yommama@isfat.com with the password "password"...

Sbaustin did this on his own initiative to get something working fast for the majority of users.  The first go aroun worked with Pocket Casts, but you had to enter your credentials on his website which made people nervous.  Once he implemented standard authentication, it narrowed the choices for a player.  He didn't get paid for this.  I made a donation because I love it.  I have it working on the default player and on RSS Radio.

I encourage everyone that likes it to make a small donation.  If you don't like it, make a large donation and maybe he will make one just for you. 😀

Love the podcast feed!!! It's a huge improvement and makes the archives so much more accessible!

Good work

Already tried unfortunately does not work, replies with a message something like the URL is not recognized as a valid podcast.

The Apple Podcasts app is horrible.
Downcast has been the best $3 app I've ever purchased.

That being said, all you have to do to subscribe via iTunes is to enter the RSS address into your web browser, then after you enter in your credentials it will give you the option to subscribe via iTunes, where you will again be asked for your credentials before you are allowed to access the feed. It worked just fine for me.
