Fox News did not expand into Canada because in Canada you have to be able to substantiate things you report as fact

How about preferring honesty and impartiality to a nightly ride of the Four Headless Horsemen of the Teabagger Apocalypse:  Hypocrisy, Self-Delusion, Intolerance, and Jellyfish IQ.

I'm with you, I wish Big Media had even a tiny bit of honesty and impartiality, but they've decided to throw in with the 'Progressives' instead.

As far as the rest, you've perfectively described the Obama Administration and their supporters.  Better than I've been able to.  Hypocrisy, self-delusion, intolerance, and jellyfish IQs.  Nice.

I'd have added their continuous lying and incompetence, but since those are already covered by hypocrisy and jellyfish IQs, well done.

You are so naive it's shocking.  You really think Big Media gives a crap who wins or loses?  It's about the HORSE RACE and all your whining won't change that.  Did you see cnn.com's homepage yesterday?  Absolutely slaughtered Obama over Benghazi, NSA, and Obamacare roll out.  You think our media doesn't have schadenfraude over this?  RATINGS, RATINGS, RATINGS!!!
If you cons actually had a candidate with a personality (Christie) instead of a mannequin like Ted Cruz or some drawling idiot like Louie Gohmert the media would be dry humping your collective legs!

I get that it must look that way when they mostly agree with you on issues  events.  How reasonable they must seem.

You are probably just enough to the Left of them to think they are Center or Center/Right, and the few stories here or there criticizing Obama and a few other Dem politicians must really stand out as evidence of that.  So you see them as at best 'balanced' and just acting like another business. And at times a bit too 'right-wing'.

Thanks for posting that. I can't remember where I heard that. I remember the gist of the story was that Fox News looked into expanding into Canada but decided not to because of tighter laws regarding journalism standards. I don't recall anyone saying that Fox was banned by Canadian government. It might be interesting to see what Fox is broadcasting in Canada. Maybe a subset of their full menu featuring shows that are more editorial or conversational and not straight up news shows.

I'm guessing Shephard Smith's bullshit strategy of appending a question mark to a false statement that is based solely on conjecture and whim doesn't fly in Canada but who knows. Why would Canadians even want to watch his shitty program anyway when they better options?

What this means in plain English is that Canada doesn't have freedom of speech, exercises censorship, and the Libs are in charge of deciding.

An equivalent scenario in the US wouldn't happen as long as we honor the First Amendment as far as what the media can say.

What would it take for the US to get to the point Canada has reached?  Let's say the First Amendment were ignored, like so much of the Constitution is now.  Then at some point the Dems hold the House, Senate, and Presidency, and passed some law like the Canadians have.  The Party of Government controls the bureaucracy no matter who the President is, and they could then utilize that law and decide all media that had views different from them would be banned.

And then brag about it.  Would that be something to be proud of?

Fox News is widely available in Canada.  We like comedic fiction as much as Americans do.

No, I don't think they are "center right" I think they are "bottom line".  I don't think they are "balanced"; often I think they "unprepared" and "lazy".  They would trade investigation for access any day, for any politician who could make their paper/broadcast more appealing.
It's time to beat up on Barry now, because that's the way the narrative wind is blowing.  So, instead of remembering the stunt cons just pulled with the shutdown, we are hearing about NSA, Benghazi, and Obamacare web failures.
Only when that gets stale, or some con says something stupid about abortion, will this drift off to something else, always in pursuit of ratings

NEWS FLASH***From Digg
This is all required reading folks if you wanna understand where these dudes are coming from..

http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2013/10/how-spot-reptilians-runing-us-government/71020/

I've often wondered what it is about the Libs - why are they always so sure they are right when most their policies have turned out to be complete failures?  Why do they never look in the rearview mirror to reflect on what they've caused, to analyze the outcomes of their policies, to consider they were wrong and correct course?  Why?

And the Left.  Why do they hate us so much?  Why have they been so supportive of all the totalitarian regimes - even after they've been completely exposed.  Mao's China, Castro's Cuba, the Soviet Union, Cambodia.  They've always supported the Communist revolutionaries wherever they were, Nicaragua, El Salvador, dozens of other revolutionary groups in dozens of places.  No matter how ruthless and bloodthirsty, no matter how many innocent people were threatened, intimidated, raped, or murdered.  No matter how much infrastructure is blown up, no matter how much damage they do.  They supported them all right up until the collapse of the USSR.  And learned nothing - they still make pilgrimages to see Castro, and up until he recently died (thankfully), Hugo Chavez.

There are always excuses, whether it's the Libs in the western world, or the Left in China, Russia, and the third world.  Not enough money, mistakes were made, didn't stick with it long enough, someone else could do it better.  Meanwhile our inner cities rot, our economy stagnates, and in places like China, Russia, Cuba, Cambodia, North Korea, 100's of millions are murdered.

They don't want us to evaluate anything at the time - it's always about the future.  Utopia is always just over the next hill.  'We're almost there', 'it's going to be so great', 'there are always glitches along the way', 'yes we can', 'hope and change', 'we are the ones we've been waiting for'.

Yes, it was pretty easy for some of us to realize right away what Obama was and is from his own rhetoric.  These people call themselves 'Progressives', yet they continue to offer nothing but failed policies from the past.

But there is no Utopia.  These ideas and policies have created endless misery.  They don't work.  Yet to each new generation they sound so good, so promising.  And anyone getting in the way is a greedy racist. That there is no Utopia, that this is all a grand failure never occurs to the Believer.  That we haven't reached Utopia yet is the fault of someone other than them - that's why these people feel free to act and speak the way they do towards the rest of us - we are in the way, blocking the path.

Translation:  Everyone you hang around with at work and in your personal life thinks the way you do.  A vast echo-chamber.  You avoid any news or opinion in the media that doesn't support what you believe.  You thought all 'right-wingers' were backwoods yokels, and are absolutely shocked when you are challenged and find it difficult to respond.

Oh, please, don't self-congratulate. It rings so hollow because it is so untrue.  You feed on the fears of the ill-informed and call yourselves "leaders".  Your entire platform is based on the procurement and preservation of property and you inflame people to your cause by masking it's true intent with paens to "freedom" and "liberty" when you care little about such concepts.
You fail to win any moral or intellectual arguments so you cloak your opponents in easily identifiable shawls of villainy (your never ending Mao and Marx and Alinsky drivel) to amplify the faint light of your ideals to something pallatable.

Talk about "echo-chambers"?!? You cannot find ANYTHING to listen to on AM radio anymore because of the chronic circle-jerk of "Connie come latelies" who try to out-extreme one another.  The need to constantly reinforce your otherwise immoral and illegitimate philosphy leads to the never ending support group wails on AM radio.  There's your "echo-chamber."

Ever wonder why Air America really failed?  Ever wonder why MSNBC's ratings really suck in non-election years?

Liberals are moral by nature; we believe in people and the power of society.  At the end of the day we know we are trying to leave our world a better place than we found it while you rape it for its every bauble.
We don't need the daily excercises in positive reinforcement with which Glenn, Rushbo, Laura, and Sean counsel and console you and your cohort; fear not though, I'm sure God will forgive you your stewardship.

I think most people mean well.  The hard Left is obviously full of bile and hate and don't mean well, but the rest of us generally do.

The thing about the Liberals is their political ideas stem from emotions, not logic.  They do what makes them feel good about themselves, and are very vocal about it.  To the point they accuse anyone else of everything from greed to racism.  It's like dealing with little kids.

By basing it all on emotions, by making it about what feels good, they seldom look behind them to see the actual outcome of their policies.  They've usually forgotten that and are on to the next thing.  When they do see their policies have failed, they don't question them or reassess, they blame everyone else and try to double down.  Usually by throwing good money after bad, and never mind the people who are being damaged instead of being helped.

The Libs and 'Progressives' think they are smarter than everyone else, that they know better.  It doesn't even occur to them they might be wrong.

Anyone who opposes them, points out failure, stands in the way, is greedy, racist, uncaring, mean, ill informed, a dumb back woods hick, corrupt.  You can't imagine any other possibilities.

Yet look at the things the Libs and 'Progressives' have given us.  Let's look at a few areas that they are 100% responsible for.  ObamaCare (not a single R voted for it), inner cities (run by Lib/'Progressive' politicians for decades now), schools (run by Lib/'Progressive' teachers unions and educrats for decades), the bureaucracy - highly incompetent, extremely wasteful, unaccountable, unresponsive, arrogant (all built step-by-step over the decades by the Party of Government).

Look at what your ideas and policies have done.

I recommend stop running on emotion and what makes you feel better, and start thinking logically when it comes to politics.  If more people abandoned failure and supported proven policy, we might be able to get back on track as a country.

It's an inherent characteristic that cannot be undone based on logic because if it could, it would never even exist.

I agree except for one minor detail:  this is one thread on one board on an internet full of this same rhetorical back and forth.
Does it really matter how civil we conduct ourselves?  I make a point, feel that point is sincere and am called a Marxist or a child. Yet when I respond, 14 people trip over themselves to proclaim a lack of civility.
Frankly it is a dialectic break conservatives have gotten forever; they are always viewed as the "adults" in the room even though their approach to government, economics, and life is Lord of the Flies.  It's all marketing.
I've always found it ironic that because they make a few bucks, have nice hair, and a decent suit that somehow they've got it figured out yet tour any state anymore and you will see more people left behind than anytime before the turn of the last century.  Liberal policy?  Not hardly.  We haven't had a liberal since maybe JFK and to be frank, he was so Cold Warrior that every thing else was secondary no matter his personal feelings on the matter.

Most of those quotes were specifically directed at Qunt Karl, who is as vile and disgusting as anyone I've ever seen post anywhere. And is a racist. And is a misogynist. And you're a disgrace for defending him.
As for you, 'Dondi?  I cannot believe you wasted precious moments of your life to research my posts and tag them.  As usual, you missed the point.  I don't care if people call me out for being uncivil (especially when I am) but to give Karl or PB, or for that matter, you a pass with your deluge of insults? On reading that --and as usual, not getting the joke or allusion--  all the righties went clicking over to tunein or whatever they use to try to find where they can hear that dirty, dirty girl "Connie."

When the capitalists or their proudly brainwashed lackeys and cannon-fodder say "freedom" or "liberty," they only ever mean capitalists' unrestricted freedom to exploit anybody or anything in the world.   Only they should have rights; if the rest of us are to be granted any at all, it's only the freedom to choose which collusively identical capitalist master to serve in hopes of catching some rotten table scraps.

I've been pointing out the double standard in here for a long time, and consistently getting called yet more names for pointing it out.
The right-wing bomb-throwers in here can write anything and it's forgiven as "just healthy free speech;"  Katie bar the proverbial door if you respond to it with anything like the fervor they bring to the game.   At best, you'll be permitted to register a polite difference of opinion.    Under no circumstance are you to suggest that a rightie in here could be fundamentally wrong; they're entitled not only to their opinions but also to their own facts, whether those be in regard to the day's news, century-old historical events, or established sociopolitical theories and definitions.

Quote from: NowhereInTime on November 14, 2013, 07:26:57 AM
Frankly it is a dialectic break conservatives have gotten forever; they are always viewed as the "adults" in the room even though their approach to government, economics, and life is Lord of the Flies.
Of course.    Every "adult" knows that the important hallmarks of really being one are:
-- fear of people outside your reference groups
-- hatred of people outside your reference groups
-- sadism toward people lower in power and status
-- blind obedience  to people higher in power and status
-- obedience to unseen mystical beings  and/or voices in your head
In other words, tribalism, authoritarianism, superstition and just a touch of crazy: marks of a great American!
To attain outward maturity without developing and cultivating these traits is just pitifully juvenile, anti-'Mercan, and vaguely threatens all these right-wingers' children.

Your last 2 exchanges with/from Sardondi --and more generally, Sardondi himself-- are great examples of the last 2 main points.   First, he is this forum's most-energetic (I would even say main) self-appointed enforcer of the double standard of political harangues, quick to point out your "transgressions" of "decorum," but --like a pro-wrestling referee-- somehow always "missing" whatever you are responding to.   And his perpetually officious demeanor leaves absolutely no doubt that he considers himself the --if not "Sole," then Superior and Reigning Adult in the Room, and that scum like you or me post here strictly at HIS sufferance.
