Streiber:   If I had the ability to read minds, I would go to Las Vegas. I would play poker.
Noory:      Or roulette, whatever you play.
Streiber:   (slight pause) No, it would have to be a game where reading minds would be an advantage...

Is (2) Inattentive the right category for this kind of comment?

I know for a fact that the day will come were that Idiot Noory will say, "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"

Lunger

And, what is up with that Idiot Noory's voice trailing off while he is one the air?  He goes through these cycles where he is fine but then - slowly - he starts doing the trailing off thing. and then for weeks its; "And we are back with our guest who believ.....  "

I can only imagine that he is sitting, twirling in his chair while speaking

George sucks

Hi Anagrammy - regarding your comments following my previous post (I have got to learn how to use that darn quote function). I'm not a loyal listener to the show at all. Typically, I catch a few minutes before falling asleep. Sometimes an hour. Sometimes the show is so nauseating I switch over to ESPN to fall asleep by. It's nothing to keep a notepad by the bed though, one is there already. If I absorb one of GN's gaffes well enough to recognize it, I will write it down in your requested format and post it.

Sometimes the guest is interesting enough to keep me listening, which is the main reason I tune in.

Very admirable thing you are doing. Taking action. The ranting, bitching, complaining, etc, etc, day after day can literally go on forever and ultimately does nothing - except help the person doing it. You are taking action, it is commendable.

Might consider saturation, getting 200 people willing to post an example every once in awhile. Vs. a few committed recruits. Would take time to accumulate the peeps, get the word out. Might see if Mike V. would sticky this thread to make it perpetually visible, change the title to reflect your goal of getting him gone. And then let things simmer, start to build.

It's daunting because many people can't stomach the guy long enough to listen to him. And, his buffoonery is the norm anymore. Difficult to discern sometimes after having been dumbed down by the guy for so long.

I will keep what you are doing to get what we all want accomplished in mind.

Thanks for the thought-provoking post, georgesucks.  I was nodding as I was reading it and thinking of another approach.  The producer is asking for specifics from people who have terminated their streamlink accounts.  This is a big fat clue for us, but we may be approaching it from the wrong angle.  Documenting his gaffes, unprofessionalism and lack of humility is easily dismissed by simply dismissing us as haters, saying (as George already did),

"There are people who hate me on the internet.  There are people who hate you.  There are haters out there."

What if, instead, we used our data to support a description of what we WANT the host to do.  So far, the dialog here has been similar to a person losing their lover, "There was something magical about him/her...when they made him/her, they broke the mold."  In truth, everyone is replaceable, so why not give Premiere the feedback they need.

I notice that they are asking for opinions about the FORMAT of the show.  Well, that's very nice, but our opinions on the format are the result of the shortcomings of the host.  For example: "Please--no more open lines."  Do we hate open lines?  No, we just hate them when Noory is doing them because he can't handle the unexpected.  So you see, Lisa (if you are reading this), your survey is useless.

The better question is what exactly would you like the host to do/not do.  Or another better question is who do you want to see as host and why?

GEORGE:  Ring of sophisticated vegetable bandits. Gang of theives stole tomatoes and cucumbers...
STEVE SHANK:  Fascinating.  Desperate situation, food becoming more valuable than gold or silver.
GEORGE:  These people who stole the vegetables,  going to do with six tractor-trailer loads of tomatoes, sell it or keep it for themselves and their friends?
SHANK:   (awkward pause)  Well, that's a lot of tomatoes, George.
GEORGE:  Forced laughter.

I wish I had a category called "Idiot"

LOL - Never thought of that.  Word is he paces during the show, which would be a likely explanation for the fading, but we also know from Richard Hoagland that he's texting.  No doubt this is what he is texting Hoagland:

CAN YOU GIVE A BROTHER AN HOUR, THIS GUY IS KILLING ME WITH ALL THIS CRAP ABOUT THE SUN. WAY TOO COMPLICATED FOR THE (new) AUDIENCE. . .

110415.GEORGE: My friend has had a repeating dream for nine years, horrible and I'm not going to tell you.  I'm going to have him type it up, seal it in an envelope and give it to Tom.  If, God forbid, this ever happens, I'm going to have him unseal the envelope and read it.

Dear George:  This is not entertaining--it is annoying.  Can you tell the difference?  It is patronizing to say, "I have a prediction I'm not going to tell you because I don't think you could handle it.  IF THIS HORRIBLE thing happens...."  COME ON MAN!  Grow at least one testicle, please and host a show for adults.

That is better than telling them that George sucks, here's the proof, and he has to go. Is there any avenue available for dialogue though. Is anyone approachable? I mean really available for a give and take regarding the matter. I imagine there are email addresses available, but...

Your reverse psychology of sorts stands a better chance of getting someone to start talking. And once the talking starts, who knows where it will lead. Getting it started is the important part.

anagrammy

No one reformats and makes over a show that is working well, so we can assume they know that Noory cannot carry the Art format. Period.  So they are asking what kind of format CAN he carry, given his shortcomings.  I feel in my bones that they are on his ass because I have noticed some attempts at improvement on his part. The number of mispronunciations has dropped although there is still some word scrambling typical of people older than Noory.

The reformatting of the whole show to cover Noory's deficits is going to morph it into something new. "Live from Ireland, here's George Noory for our first hour "Traveling With George" followed by Irish news and weather....."

They probably have a bundling contract with Noory like that poster said who was so knowledgeable about how radio marketing and ratings work.  So they are stuck with him for a contract period unless he violates his contract.  Which obviously says nothing about the quality of the show, only that his butt is in the seat for the required hours.  Putting him on tour is a good way of bringing in replacement hosts without saying George Noory Sucks.  They are trying to use him in different ways than hosting.

This is good news for us-- any shakeup that moves his mouth from a mike is proof of the existence of God...

God, it's Anagrammy.  I might become a believer again if you could just move Noory to VP in charge of grooming affiliates and PR for Premiere!  Are you listening, God?  And while you're at it, George Knapp meant those things he said about Las Vegas to call your attention to the city so you would remember what a great host he is...

I think you may be on to something anagrammy, Art will take over the show later and George will be sort of the host who checks in with updates or special reports, like a new Linda Moulton howe. This will satify the George followers as Art slowly eases back into the reigns of the new, and improved full-time Coast Host.

Wow, I actually could see this scenario happening.

JustOneFix

If they did get Noory to appear in various places, just how much of a draw would he be?  Somewhere on the forum I recall someone stating at a meet & greet for Noory, only 50 or so people showed up. The admission fee for those 50 people wouldn't cover his airfare & hotel room.

I suspect most of the new crowd of C2C listeners are fixed income shut-ins, unable to drive or travel for any number of reasons.

Personally, I wouldn't walk across the street to see him live even if I had a free ticket. I feel the same way about Nine Inch Nails, but a shit load of other people like them and they do have alot of closet fans. Maybe Noory has closet fans too?

George sucks

So, you would be putting the efforts into facilitating, and expediting, a change that is much more doable given your evidence of the situation. I agree, that some sort of change is in the works. George is much better suited to a gloss over, not so involved, sort of fake commercialized show - what C2C is now at its core with George. But make it that way all around. That would leave the door open for another show that's legit, hard hitting, serious, professional, etc. Whatever gets George away from doing crap he can't do right is a good thing.

rkowna

Please proceed directly to April 12, 2011, for a steaming Noory masterpiece.  Unreal-

Hour 1-  Just Warming Up-  Mispronounces Yuri Gagarin.  So bad I can't reproduce here.

Hour 2-  Has a decent guest on with some theory about 2012.  George is bored 5 minutes in.  Why?  Unlike the rest of the 2012 guests this guy feels we wont even notice the change.  The guy then goes into detail about mayan astronomy. Art would have eaten it up, kind of like the first Michio Kaku appearance.  The guy tracked down the whole mystique to an observatory near Quito.  He then asks the Snoremeister General if he would like detail on what happens?  No, I don't want to go into boring stuff about orbits and scientific explanations. That sums this moron up.

Hours 3 and 4 are pure Noory Gold.  On comes Coast to Coast"Scientific Advisor", Richard Hoagland, back from a successful trip to Amsterdam where he wowed 400 "scientists" with his genius.  George is thrilled because three people who live in Europe listen to Coast and knew who he was. Then ten minutes of how they are taking the show international.

Anyway, as it happens, Hoagland has solved 9/11.  An Australian spy cornered Richard in a bar, bought him a drink, and told him "someone we don't like is here."  From this, Hogan pieces together that Nazis that launched themselves into the outer solar system from a secret base on Antarctica (could have been the Arctic, I was picking myself off the floor) were at it again.  It seems that these Nazi's fired a special beam into New York on 9/11.  This beam reflects off targets it doesn't want to hit, and did the damage it was meant to do.

Art would have been laughing so hard he would have had to have been revived.  George?  Heavy stuff Richard, keep us posted.

He is the human stump. Run, Athur, run.  As far away from this sh#tbomb as you can.

HAL 9000

I cannot take credit for any of the following - I found these on a website, where the guy said he actually got them from the previous incarnation of THIS website... so they're probably sitting around in a post somewhere on this site. I'd like to think that George Noory could be an inadvertent savior of the planet.

Aliens violently invade the Earth, killing, maiming, trolling on Coastgab...  and all the while, George, completely oblivious, gets on the air.

Within seconds after he opens his mouth, the reverberations of his voice and the perturbations of his mighty slurs slice through the midnight air with the force of a laser-like sirocco, instantly blowing all the tiny eardrums of all of the evil little nasty aliens.

Deaf, and in agony, the aliens retreat to the murky bowels of space from whence they came.

The End.

George sucks

Anagrammy - you said you were open to ideas, suggestions. What do you think about this. Since anyone that has anything bad to say about Noory is dismissed as a critic. What if a professional did an evaluation of him.

He talks on the radio, it's talk radio. That's all anyone needs to make an assessment. Maybe a mental health professional. Say a psychologist. Or maybe there are people in the radio biz that rate hosts, a professional that way. Point being, if it comes from someone who's job it is to take stock of other people, mentally, professionally, whatever, then it would carry more weight.

And if something done to get Noory gone got national attention, that might turn the scale.

That's It!  We need a YouTube cartoon with Noory saying actual Nooryisms ...  The South Park treatment.  What they did for Mormonism (people laughing at the idea that God lived on Kolob, a planet hidden behind the sun, or on the sun, or with the sun...or something about the sun).

The worst movie ever made, Troll2, became famous for being so bad.  Why can't Noory become famous for his ineptitude?  Then Coast can take its place as a comedy show and the niche will become available for a professional radio host who can inject more mystery than the question, "How does he keep his job?"

What do you think?  I don't like the mental health evaluation route because I think that would just lead to people feeling sorry for him because of his "struggles" with low self esteem....blah blah blah.

PS - The Daily Show?  Turn Jon Stewart on to this potential buffoonery....what do you think???

I have been thinking about doing a podcast but am too lazy, and honestly didn't have a good idea for a topic.  When I heard the April 12 show it struck a chord.  George was so spaced out that   I listened to Coast up until 3 years ago or so.  I would come back once in a while, then drop off.  I have stopped in this board a bit, read alot over the last two years, but wasn't motivated.

Then it occurred to me.  I have motivation.  That April 12 show was so bad it breathed life into me.  I am going to see what I can do about launching a Coast podcast.  I am thinking about calling it "The Coast Guard" and will provide a summary, or perhaps dummary, of a week in coast.

To be fair, if George shines, I will make sure I get it out there.  Somewhere I recall a thread on here about podcasting.  As soon as I am done typing I will search the archive for the thread.

Anyway, with talkshoe and a couple others maybe e can make it a group thing.

Go for it man!  Anything we can do to help, let us know.  It is a bigger task than you think--just listening every night for the Nooryisms is too much of a burden for one person (with an IQ over 100).  I am volunteering to be responsible for the first hour of reporting anything worthy of mention directly to you...

I'm sure there are other CoastGabbers who will help tote that bale.

Tonight:

GEORGE:  Your book "Overdosing America" just took America by storm.  Thank you, John, for all you've done for America, and North America too..."

EGYPT update:

and these people, with all their art and culture, and how the pyramids were built, but they were all taken over by others, why is that?

They were given the civilization along with an order of the universe and this is what they believed.

Zahid Hawass says he's not going to jail and everything is fine, What's going on with Zahid?

The guest describes a rumor about Hawass that is all over the internet.

GUEST:  He asks George if he knows about the fake room (No), and about the Queen's shaft (sic) --No, not a thing.

GUEST:  National Geographic tried to see what was behind the door at the end of the southern shaft.....and he had a terrible temper and ridiculed people--one person was leading a tour through the pyramid and a lady had to go to the bathroom, so she actually peed in the pyramid, so-----

GEORGE:  We'll be back to discuss the other side of Hawass, we're at the top of the hour...

and guess what?  We never find out what happened to the lady who peed in the pyramid.  This is a primary reason why I keep swearing I will NOT listen and yet here I am like a rubberneck at an auto accident.

GEORGE:  What about Giza?  What about the age of the Sphinx?
talk talk talk talk talk

So carry on, George!

(caught by surprise)  No! Fine- just keep going.

LOL - I prefer your analogy of watching your house burn down. You just can't stop watching no matter how horrific.

I'm listening to Knapp from the weekend... :p

Although maybe I should switch over to Noory...  I do need some sleep afterall....

mikemcc

There is a lot about listening to George that irritates me, but one of the biggest things is that he can't remember what someone said just seconds after they say it. I'm sure you have all noticed times when the guest asked George to repeat the question a caller just asked, usually because the guest couldn't hear or understand the question. George gets this frantic tone to his voice and stutters and then says something that really has no relation at all to what the caller had asked. But the strange thing is that George even does this with questions HE has asked -- he should be able to keep those in his head for a few seconds, shouldn't he? Here's an example from the April 11 show with Jesse Ventura. George essentially interrupts a story Ventura is telling, so Ventura wants to finish with his point. Look at what happens:

George: You started giving tax money back to the citizens, didn't you?

Ventura: Well, I'll explain that, but anyway, I made $120K a year as governor, which if my Roosevelt High School math is correct, that means I made $480K for the four years, which I only spent $300K [on his campaign]. Who else could possibly say that? Now -- where were we going? What did you say until I got that in?

George [Voice raises about three octaves and stutters]: Well, we we we were talking about primarily what was going on in your life at the time as the governor. But I wanted to ask you, why you didn't seek reelection.

This all takes place about 24 minutes into the first hour, by the way.

George does exactly the same thing later on with a question a guest asks. Ventura asks George to repeat the question and George doesn't even come close to the topic that the question dealt with. It is kind of funny when this happens because George always behaves the same way -- he raises his voice by several octaves, you can hear him tense up (probably because he knows about 3 million people are going to realize he's a numb-nuts), he stutters, and he says, "basically" or "primarily" to indicate that he's going to summarize or paraphrase the caller's question. The problem is, as I have said, that he rarely comes close to what the caller originally asked.

Hell, I can understand this happening once in a while. There are times when things leave my head almost as soon as they come in! A similar situation happened on one of Ian's shows a while back -- sorry, I don't recall which one it was -- and Ian simply said, "Duh, ya know what? I don't even remember. Maybe it will come back to me." I don't think there is anything wrong with handling things in this way. If you don't remember, just say you don't remember! The thing that is most disturbing about George is that he almost never remembers the original question or topic. So, for every 20 times a guest asks George to repeat something, George may get it right one time. The other 19 times are more like the example I gave here. Shouldn't this statistic be reversed? Shouldn't George flub it once and get it right 19 times? Isn't that what one would expect from a highly-paid host of an (inter)national radio show?

Excellent observation, mikemcc.  Yes, I have noticed that.

A while back I was posting on the idea that maybe he had dementia or attention deficit or some kind of mental dysfunction.  I have memory problems now that I'm getting older and I've read that you have to hold something in your attention for at least ten seconds for it to go into long term memory instead of short term memory.  I notice that if I repeat a phone number for ten seconds that doesn't work, I still forget it.  But if I visualize it, i.e., in my head an index card with the area code in the upper left with parenthesis and the rest of the number in the upper right corner, then I remember it.  In fact, the few seconds it took me to arrange the numbers in my head allowed the number to go into long term memory.

Because Noory did not think of the question himself, because it appeared on his computer screen for him to ask, he doesn't remember it.  This is a fundamental difference between Noory and Art.  Art thought up the questions because he had an interest in the topics and actually read their book.  Because they were his questions, he could change the question should the guest say something unusual, like "she peed in the pyramid."

The whole peeing in pyramids comment raises an interesting point.

I was channel surfing one night and came across the show, more specifically the part that shows the girl 'peeing in the pyramid'- she pissed her pants it wasn't actually a drop trou and let it fly situation.  I highly doubt they truck in a port-o-john into the bowels of a pyramid, so what do you do?

Back on topic-
Did anyone else notice Noory's stuttering last night in the first hour? He seemed to be having some real trouble getting the words out at times- even more so than normal. I fell asleep shortly after the 'newscast' segment so I can't add anything else of value there.

This example falls in the area of unprofessional.  Noory is not thinking about the needs of the listeners at all when he says, "Just go to his website, www.robertbauval.com

Don't think Stewart would go for it, he does political stuff. But to sic someone on him like that, yes. It's all viable and good strategically other than that I think. So many different ways to go after him, so little time. We could all make a career out of getting him gone, but it wouldn't be much of a life. I guess the optimum way to get him gone would be the one that requires the least involvement, least effort, is the most fun, and perhaps pays the most - in whatever ratios a person finds acceptable.

If something is done on youtube, it has the potential to be worthwhile monetarily for the person doing it, can reach millions of people, and has the potential to get national exposure perhaps. It's very involved though. It's work. What I'm running into is life, there are more important things than George Noory for us all I'm sure. About all I'm good for is a protest get-together if he ever does an engagement in my town, or signing a petition, or to help out with recording an inept moment for the record here.

Having Noory renting space in my head gets old, sure you can relate. I fluctuate between absolutely enraged at the jerk, willing to walk a million miles to get him gone....  to fuck, I need to get a life if I'm spending my time thinking about that loser.

One of Jon Stewart's best moments.    jon stewart on crossfire
