The leftwing lemming idiots really should come up with a new mantra. "He's stupid. Dumb. Wants world war 3. Will nuke everyone" the ignorant left said about Trump, W, Bush, Reagan. Supposedly they were all stupid and laughed at by the world ignorant left, while they increased the US position of leadership and power as THE dominant super power.

There are a lot of reasons the U.S. became the world's dominant superpower. Trump, W, GHWB had nothing to do with it.  Some argue that Reagan's large increases in military spending helped bankrupt the USSR. That claim is dubious since the USSR's state-run economy was corrupt, designed to fail, was unsustainable from the beginning and its collapse was inevitable. The state of California has a larger GDP that Russia.

Conversely, the US was in an almost natural position to become a superpower. A huge continent rich in resources, millions of hard-working immigrants leaving their homelands to build a better life, presidents who believed in the young nation's "manifest destiny" to expand from the Atlantic to the Pacific, public education creating a fairly well-educated work force.  The US became the world's dominant economic power by the late 1800's, barely 100 years after its creation.  World War II elevated the US to the dominant military as well as economic superpower.  The question now is how long that dominance will last.

All I heard from the Ds was that we should get rid of our nukes to show our good will, we were pushing the world to nuclear war by stationing our short range nukes in Germany to counter the short range nukes the Soviets stationed in East Germany, missile defense was ''Star Wars'' - at the same time both undoable and somehow a threat to the Soviets.  The Soviets became adept at playing the Libs by proposing nuclear weapons treaties that would have minimal impact on them but would significantly affect our weapons - the Libs would then rush to the streets to demand we accept terms.

We weren't supposed to counter Soviet aggression (through their puppet regime in Cuba) in our hemisphere, or anywhere else.  Now we find out Teddy Kennedy was asking for Soviet help in influencing our 1984 elections against Reagan.

The Ds were terrified of the Soviets, terrified of Reagan, battled Reagan every step of the way in designing their collapse, and were willing to do anything to appease them.  The hard core Leftists - precursors to today's ''Progressives'' - were on the side of the Soviet totalitarian state and cried when they collapsed.

So no, the Libs don't get to now claim they knew it all along.

The 'Hard core leftists' were in the tiny minority when it came to not wanting nuclear war. It isn't common knowledge and was only made public a few years ago, but there was a specific short period of time in 1983 when RAF Vulcan bombers were fueled up with APU's hooked up, fully loaded with nuclear stand off bombs, sitting on the rapid deployment ramps at RAF Waddington, Conningsby and Finningley. The crews knew it was a one way trip and that it was no exercise. It was a time of high tension between NATO and the then USSR, and closer to all out war than the Cuban missile crises. The B52's flying out of Fairford and US bases were in similar readiness.

To simply dismiss it as leftist/dems/progressive bullshit is blind ignorance of the reality of that period. In the UK, the 'after war government' actually took positions in the bunkers until they were told otherwise. Bomber crews made final phone calls to their families. Reagan and Thatcher played incredibly high stakes with the Soviet hierarchy and it was as close as it could be to one side launching ICBM's. They'd have been okay of course, because they'd be underground. No side beat the other, they stepped back. We all won because we're still alive.

Yep it was called "The Nuclear Freeze". All the idiot leftwing lemmings had the bumper stickers on their cars. Their solution was the US and USSR will freeze all production and maintenance of nucUlar weapons. Which of course would mean the US stops and the Russians don't. Reagans response was dump a load of money in the missile defense which forced Gorby to the table to inevitably tear down the wall and collapse the USSR.

If you think things got a little tense at times - and they did - think about how tense things would have become by projecting weakness and appeasing them.
