It is absolutely beautiful outside. Spring is here for Nebraska. I appreciate good weather and I hope you folks do too. I bought two big bags of sunflower seeds, and the yard is full of squirrels and birds. It really is quite something. I'm gonna go for a walk and shake off this drunken stupor.

I filled some bird-feeders a week and a half ago. Still no birds, except some big fat doves that are too big to eat from them and are tempting me to be a poacher. Yet, went over to a relative's house nearby and she had tons of birds. She buys her bird seed from a high-end place. I guest saw a 'generic' birdseed for sale at the grocery store. But it seems to look the same, to me. I guess birds are snobs? Or...how will the birds "know" that I have filled my feeders (I haven't used for a year or more since was sick of cleaning up bird poop.) But moved them and filled. Do they id by sight? Smell? "Talking" to each other?

Oh, you have no idea how big a Democrat. She is a Billary supporter and very "I am woman, hear me roar" type of supporter- even does the annoying calls that interrupt your dinner for her. This weekend she blamed my differing politics for "listening to those crazy radio programs." Haha.

Re: birds. It is weird. I really do wonder how they 'find' feeders. I do have a neighbor who lets their cat patrol outside. I chase it away but it is not like I can 24/7 be monitoring and don't want a feud with a cat lady. So that could be issue. Or just that I haven't filled them in quite some time. Funny thing is....a few years back I was bitching about birds (I think) eating my tomatoes. I'm guessing once they fruit the birds will be back and I will be ruing wondering about birds!

Nope, my City Council is spending millions on new walkways, bridges across roads, etc. And also there is a phenomena, that none-dare-mention, of people who seems to not understand simple things like cross streets at intersections in the crosswalk, when prompted by the signal, and look both ways, often, I will say it, they seem to be of the immigrant variety. Increasing numbers of auto-pedestrian accidents.

Remember when they passed the first ones? I know they say "slippery slope" is faulty logic but remember? Originally it was for children, and then not going to be a ticket-able offense for which you could be stopped- but only if stopped for another violation, then it expanded to you can be stopped and ticketed (and cops would even hangout at intersections or strip malls to see people without them,) and then applicable to everyone, even in the back, and ticket-able. Revenue generation and not allowing herd thinning.

Our police chief is having outreach on the issue and much hand-wringing on how to redesign streets (odd traffic circles, weird traffic flow solutions, more cross walks, extra lanes for bikes and walkers, over-passes, even weirdo paint jobs on the street to 'alert' drivers, etc) to solve a "problem" that most people, at least citizens, are taught as children: don't jay-walk, cross at intersections, look both ways, walk your bike across a street, etc. But those simple solutions don't cost money and we must 'accommodate' those with different opinions on traffic safety.

Well, I do live near Berkeley.  This stuff is 'common knowledge' around here.

Sounds like you need a new city government.  A few tickets for J-walking, riding bikes on sidewalks, etc, is really all it would take.  What won't work is pandering to this stuff.
