As I said before my 'We're All Doomed, Donald Trump We're Living In Nazi Germany' thread, was deleted, I DON'T CARE ABOUT HUMANS so I don't want anything to do with them.

Here's my linkedin profile to know more about me.

You'll see how much of a misanthrope I am. I am like the late great misanthropic comedians, George Carlin and Bill Hicks.

Your thread was not deleted. It was moved to the appropriate section.

Despite all his other accomplishments, this brief but moving response to Ohio Democratic primary foe Howard Metzenbaum is why I admired Colonel John Glenn, USMC.

Then he sold out to Bill Clinton for a ride on the Space Shuttle.

I remember the day he launched.  I went out to the beach in Florida to watch almost every shuttle launch in the 90s and 2000s.  There was seldom anyone else paying attention. But on the day of Glenn's flight, the beach was covered with people - many of them too young to have witnessed his Mercury flight.

In 1996, newspaper reports claimed the Chinese government was attempting to influence US elections by donating money to Democrats, particularly Clinton - see Charlie Trie, Johnny Chung, John Huang, James Riady, etc.  The Senate held hearings - committee chaired by Fred Thompson and ranking member John Glenn.  Glenn insisted on a one year limitation on the committee's investigation, and Clinton was able to ride out the year by ignoring subpoenas for information.

Shortly after the hearings ended, Glenn was named to the shuttle crew.

Ah! Very enlightening. Thanks.  :)

Glenn also fought in Korea - flying, IIRC, f-86s.  Ted Williams was his wing man.

I remember at the time thinking Why are they sending Glenn up again?! When they said it was to study the effects of space flight on the elderly it sounded..."plausible."  ;)

His F-86 was called Mig Mad Marine

The Clinton Presidency was chock full of this garbage.  Somehow none of it was deemed newsworthy during the recent election cycle.

Lennon was warned that he would be shot and killed on an island by astrologer a British tabloid had claimed. Of course they don't go with the mainstream story it was Chapman who shot him, not Stephen King.

RIP Col. Glen.  I remember your STS-95 Shuttle launch.  It was the first time that I remember seeing video footage taken down on the Mid deck(flight deck was the top deck with windows Commander on right, Pilot on left, then 2 more seats immediatley behind those 2, then down a level was the Mid deck with seating for 4 more people).  I remember Col. Glenn popping up into his seat without issue.  IIRC he was Payload Specialist(PS2) for that flight.

Here are the STS-95 mission highlights from crew boarding through launch, orbit and landing.

At 12:15 another original 7 of the Mercury group Alan Carpenter says some words including the phrase "Godspeed John Glenn" which was first said to Glenn just before he launched aboard his Friendship-7 Mercury mission to become the 1st American to attain orbit some 36 years prior to his 1998 STS-95 launch at the age of 77.
Launch at 13:50
Good shot of Glenn(middle) during Main Engine Start, followed by SRB ignition showing the vibration that approx. 7,500,000 pounds of thrust creates as the stack lifts off and reaches 100mph as it clears the tower.  On its way to 17,500mph just 8 minutes later.
18:50 same camera records MECO(Main Engine Cut Off)  astros go from 3 g's pushing them straight back into their seats to zero G's as the engines shut down and prepare to come off the tank.
1:17:15 gear down
1:17:34 main gear touchdown
1:17:44 nose gear touchdown
1:18:34 wheelstop
1:21:27  final radio message from Glenn on STS-95

I still get goosebumps everytime, such great machines with great humans that rode them.

peace

Senator Glenn's body will lie in state in the rotunda of the Ohio Statehouse this Friday, 16 Dec.  Weather and time permitting, I hope to go to pay my respects.
