When I look back on all I have achieved in life, bringing horse porn into the BellGab vernacular is one of my proudest moments.

The Spec Sheet is the funniest non comedy podcast in existence.
Actually, I think it's the other way around... it's a comedic podcast with some tech news.
Curtis and MV, you guys crack me up.  It's gold.

Vision-correcting displays
Technology could lead to e-readers, smartphones, and displays that let users dispense with glasses.
Researchers at the MIT Media Laboratory and the University of California at Berkeley have developed a new display technology that automatically corrects for vision defects â€" no glasses (or contact lenses) required.
The technique could lead to dashboard-mounted GPS displays that farsighted drivers can consult without putting their glasses on, or electronic readers that eliminate the need for reading glasses, among other applications.

BlackBerry Passport first look
If you haven’t heard it already, RIM managed to make the news today, as the company officially announced that it’s in the process of acquiring German security firm Secusmart, during its BlackBerry Security Summit conference held in New York City today. While in attendance, we managed to get our first look at the upcoming BlackBerry Passport, which is hopefully going to be one of the many next-generation BlackBerry devices we’ll be seeing soon in the future. In fact, there were plenty of executives at the conference sporting the handset in plain sight.

Microsoft challenges U.S. warrant demanding emails stored overseas
Microsoft has, in a landmark case, challenged in U.S. federal court a search warrant for private email communications located in the company’s facility in Dublin, Ireland, after a magistrate judge quashed in April its opposition to the warrant.

i hate to say it, but $micro$oft is right. our laws extend to our borders, and not beyond. if a US court wants to get info stored outside the us, then they need to contact the person(s) with jurisdiction in those countries, and ask that  jurisdiction to get the info and forward any info to the original court in the US.

President signs cell phone unlocking bill into law
The new law repeals a 2012 decision by the Library of Congress that made cell phone unlocking a violation of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The DMCA, which prohibits Americans from "circumventing" technologies that protect copyrighted works, gives the Library of Congress the authority to grant exemptions. Last year, the Library of Congress opted not to renew the DMCA exemption for cell phone unlocking, which it had granted in 2006 and 2010.

Unlocking a cell phone is important for consumers who travel abroad and for those who want to take their devices to other carriers. The reason why is that most devices sold in the US through wireless operators have a software lock on them which prohibits them from being used on another operator's network. The ban on unlocking put a roadblock in the way for consumers who wanted to use their devices on other networks.

Apparently the NFL is "testing" coaches and officials using Microsoft tablets and such during games.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/04/doug-marrone-says-his-tablet-didnt-work-for-portion-of-game/
QuoteThe NFL has permitted teams to use Microsoft tablet computers during games this season, primarily for studying pictures taken before and after the snap.

However, Bills coach Doug Marrone was apparently without use of a tablet for at least some of Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game.

After the Bills’ 17-13 loss to the Giants, Marrone indicated his tablet wasn’t operating in the first two quarters, per ESPN’s Mike Rodak.

“I was told mine was going to work, and mine didn’t work,” Marrone said afterwards, according to audio from WGR 550 AM in Buffalo. “They said they would get it right, and it was miscommunication. But I was excited. I did use it in the second half, and I like it a lot,” Marrone said.

Instant replay officials were also using "systems" powered by Microsoft Surface, allegedly. Can't wait for an official's review to hold up the game because the BSOD keeps popping up.
