She lunched with the veterans and listened to them perform songs. She reminisced about her memories of seeing troops off to World War I and welcoming them home. The most that she could offer was a promise of positions in the newly created Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).[28] One veteran commented, "Hoover sent the army, Roosevelt sent his wife."[32] In a press conference following her visit, the First Lady described her reception as courteous and praised the marchers, highlighting how comfortable she felt despite critics of the marchers who described them as communists and criminals.[28]

Roosevelt later issued an executive order allowing the enrollment of 25,000 veterans in the CCC, exempting them from the normal requirement that applicants be unmarried and under the age of 25.[33] Congress, with Democrats holding majorities in both houses, passed the Adjusted Compensation Payment Act in 1936, authorizing the immediate payment of the $2 billion in World War I bonuses, and then overrode Roosevelt's veto of the measure.[34] The House vote was 324 to 61,[35] and the Senate vote was 76 to 19.[36]

I'm gonna attempt to make a brisket on the grill tomorrow. Never tried one before, if you have any hints on how to do it, I'm open to suggestions.

Slow and Low. And the rub, or not. But key is slow and low temp for long time. Harder to do on a grill though there are some methods by which you grill it a bit then cover with foil and put into your oven at low temp for hours that can work. Or wrapping it on the grill and letting the coals really almost go 'cold.' Resting it after also since it will still be 'cooking.' I don't like to trim the fat (keeps it moist) but opinion varies (also depending on the cut you got from the meat market etc.) Won't get as smoky as using a smoker or egg etc.  The timing, rub (or not,) and type of wood is fraught with controversy and everyone has there own theories. Hell, every year since I was a kid they brought out 'cannons' to do 1812 Overture to the fireworks (now why they choose Russian victory over Napoleon piece to celebrate our Revolution might be something to consider! But I think simply so that the local National Guard can show some boom and it works so well!) A few "tanks"? I bet between the grocery and gas station in my little town of 800, they each sell over 20 cases per week!

There is a time and place. "Shit" American beers are like water, which is important in Texas to stay hydrated. Sure not tasty, necessarily, but for the hydration aspect and a full day of working, fishing, hunting, mowing, whatever can't be beat. And "you can't get drunk on beer."  I learned from my great uncle way back who was on oil fields to splash some salt in the beer (Pearl or Lonestar) and that helps. Like Gatorade.     I think that is also why Mexicans salt beer. Hot places or hard work outdoors and have to replace electrolytes.

True Albrecht.  I don't chose a beer for its alcohol content and I sometimes add salt to my beer if/when I use a glass (which is not very often).
I tried many beers before Labatts and few are as smooth tasting - Budweiser gave me headaches!  I also found that many beers seem to taste "old" or even "spoiled" due to sitting too long or transported not kept cold or whatever. 

I remember drinking Old Milwakee ("sqawks") at 29 Palms CA that were so warm they were nasty!

I like Canadian lager beer also. I think Budweiser is just fine, cheap or not. I tried some lager beer from the Philippines and Thailand but their beer is somewhat bitter. I found Corona beer kinda weak.
