As I've mentioned MANY times I have no problem with a healthcare system with  a single-payer and taking those costs off the company's back, but also with a private option for those who want better, and even higher-wage but, like Switzerland high border controls and a homogeneous society and gun rights (and the canton system is very nice.) I have here also mentioned how the Netherlands and Norway were very nice (prior immigration schemes.) Socialism-lite, or even heavy, works fine with small, homogeneous societies so there is public pressure to not 'take advantage' (and lots of off-shore oil&gas and small population helps and also nice taxation pass-though schemes for companies.  )

If Switzerland is a homogeneous society why are its Cantons so decentralized?

I'm old enough to remember 1991, and it did not seem like a time when women in a progressive European country would not be allowed to vote.
