I'd be interested to hear more about the "personality clashes" between Leo and J. Neil Schulman.

I don't think personality clashes were a substantive issue. I can only guess since I never met Leo face to face but I think, given his health issues, Leo wanted someone with more of a technical background in radio than I brought to the table.

Leo just posted this on FB.

2/18/2015 - Today I come to you with this message with a heavy heart as I must announce today that Mutual will cease all production and broadcasts at the end of the year. Our final broadcast will be 12/31/2015. The network is on replay mode from now until December 23rd. Dark Thirty News will have a special live broadcast on that day. I will join in to discuss some aspects of this decision at that point. There will be additional broadcasts the week of the 28th, and then its over. One of the big issues right now is the music licensing. That rates are set to go up astronomically in January. We were already struggling with how we were going to handle the old rates. The new rates simply make this impossible. 2016 will bring a mass exodus of internet streaming radio stations because its simply too expensive to play the music. Something like 55% of the gross income would go to music licensing. Even though the music is only a tiny portion of the overall content of the show. I'm sorry that leaves little left over to work with. I understand we are talk radio primarily, but the music bumpers and segues are a very important element. Not 55% worth of course. But they make the laws - we dont see it financially viable to work under the 2016 model.

Except that as part of the deal I was offering Leo I included my entire music library royalty free, somewhere around 50+ hours, including recordings of my dad, Julius Schulman, soloing with the original Mutual Broadcast Symphony Orchestra, and music I acquired for the two movies I produced.

Oh, I forgot. I was a parasite who expected Leo to do everything and pay for everything.

I never really gave the guy a chance. Schulman seems like a pretty good dude. If its worth anything, I apologize for being a dick. Leo is still a gigantic dickhead though and he can go fuck himself.

I love making new friends.  :)

Come on Neil go on GabCast, everyone here is on your side. Leo publicly defamed you so there's no reason for you to remain silent.  The guy's completely insane and has no pull or charisma to accomplish anything. You can also clear your name with the people who think you were against Art just because of your affiliation with Leo.

Leo publicly defamed me? I didn't see that.

News alert: Leo still a jerk on facebook.

God Almighty, did I dodge a bullet.

How much of a cut does JNS get?  Or is it too soon?

This is the first I've heard about it. Leo Ashcraft and Mutual have no rights to use the name Alongside Night for anything, much less to continue to market my work product which was based on representations to me by Leo Ashcraft that were never fulfilled.

No trouble at all...we just want to know your take on things... PM me and let's set it up!

Thank you but I'm not interested in raising the profile on my former business relationship with Leo Ashcraft. That's the trouble I'm aiming to avoid.

Would you be willing to come on the next GabCast to discuss?

I think it would be a great format to clear the air.

I don't know what I could say that I haven't or can't answer here. I'm not looking for trouble.

So that first show, and the only one you were on, where your show paradied Art's announcer...you say you had nothing to do with that?

There were six test shows. I did not produce anything; my role was limited to being on-air. I also provided the theme song and some bumper music. I lined up a couple of guests for shows that never happened.

Yeah, that was some interesting backpedaling after shots were fired at his home the night before.

Again, I never said a word against Art. I am not responsible for what Ashcraft said or wrote.

Do you hear that? It's the world's smallest violin playing just for you Neil. Its a shame two schmucks with no radio hosting experience failed miserably. And after all that time slandering Art too. What a waste. Hope is not lost though Neil. I'm sure you and Kevin Sorbo can fart out another masterpiece.

I never said a word against Art and, in fact, I spent some time on one of our test shows praising and thanking Art.

Did Leo tell you to STFU or it's your ass?  Not sure how I would feel about that.  Somebody with legal experience reach out to you?  I'd give that some thought.

I think that you posting here, the words you have posted, generally express to this reader that you were not so pleased with the end product.  *shrug*  A failed venture, yeah, I'd be disappointed.

But, I could be wrong.

Okay, in the name of free speech I'll risk this. Leo emailed me to "Get lost." Making a play of words on his company's name I responded, "Mutual, I'm sure." Leo responded by copying me into an email in which he asked that I be reported to the Nye County Sheriff's Dept for harassing him right after he had a heart attack.

How was your experience with the show?  What was it like working with Leo?  Did you have any guests in mind for when the show launched?

I have email indicating that commenting could expose me legally. I'll leave my desire not to comment further there.

What do you think of the new guy taking over the show?

Seems everything has been a disaster.

Beyond the first show I haven't been listening.

Do you have any background info on why Leo cancelled the show?

Doctor's orders.

What happened that night Leo claimed he was having "dental work" done in the morning?

Beats me. I've never met Leo in person. Facebook private messaging, email, telephone, and Skype audio only. That's it.

I hope you saved the drunk Ward calling in tapes...heh

The purpose of those shows was to make sure the equipment was working. It was. Any drunk dialing we received played five by five.

I just heard the show's been cancelled?  I hope they'll release a "Best of" collection soon.

The show was cancelled pre-launch. That's a pretty small set.

Sounds about right.  Leo is nuts.  I do wonder why you hitched yourself to Leo after his total meltdown with Art.

I had no inside knowledge.

How's Leo?

I have had no contact with Leo Ashcraft since November 1, 2015 when he cancelled the Alongside Night Radio show.

I guess I need to say something about the email and messages I have been getting about RCH. I did everything I could to help him in every way possible, including getting a loan of expensive gear from Telos to transmit his show to the Network. I found Rossy for him. I gave him the best advice I could muster up on how to proceed. I provided help in more ways then I will try to detail here.

I am sad that events have unfolded as they have. I am not going to discuss specifics but will say that we are currently not in communication nor have we been for some time now. Sometimes you think you know somebody and then find out you never really did, just sad. Please understand that I do not run the Network, I just do my show.

Leo posted this explanation on twitter.  I wonder who the freeloader is...
"I was carrying the entire thing - monetarily - labor, etc - After a few days in the hospital I return to this dude saying I didnt bring anything to the show since I have cancelled it completly.  It seems I brought everything to the show.  I certainly don't need a demanding free loader  the day I return from the hospital.  Unfortunately due to doctor's orders I will not be able to return to the air five nights per week.  Jeremy Scott does a super job on his own and can carry the show himself."

Wow.

Your "show" sucks an enormous amount of ass. Leo is a whiny little shit. He is calling Art a drama queen because someone was shooting at his property. All class, that leo.

You're lying. We're installing new equipment and Leo and I did not do a show last night. Our next show is tonight and we will not be discussing Art Bell.

J Neil Schulman lives in Pahrump.

Despite my having qualified years back for California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) I'm a bit too old with mobility issues for Art to add me to his security detail.

Kinda looks like a gay Orson Welles...
Cubicle getting a tight, is it, when you have to resort to homophobic taunting? Relax, it will be a few more weeks before the warrants show up for that gay teenager your cyberbullying led to suicide.

He's an attention whore.

You injected a comment about Leo Ashcraft and the Alongside Night ads on MITD into this thread about Art's Bigfoot show. I replied to you and I'm the attention whore?

The paid Alongside Night ads on MITD ended over a week ago and you're still bringing them up on BellGab repeatedly, out of context of the subject of the threads.

I know I'm not paying you to get my movie free publicity. Who is?
