I think Dave has been doing a great job since he took over MITD.

It’s Dave’s show now and I respect his explanation at the top of the show regarding why he chose to have this guest on and discuss this topic. I also agree with the sentiment expressed by Dave from time to time that a talk show dedicated to covering all things paranormal, anomalous, and fringe cannot always have UFOs, Bigfoot, or Ghosts as the topic of discussion (even though that would suit me just fine).

Dave is working hard to get the guest to defend homeopathy in a credible manner but the guest either won’t or can’t make a credible argument supported by either scientifc studies or empirical evidence.

I’ve listened to the first hour and a half of the show in an effort to give the topic/guest an opportunity to become interesting.  Maybe I’m in the minority but I find the topic not interesting and guest not convincing.

I’d be interested to know how the numbers for tonight’s show compare to other shows with better topics and guests.

For the first time since Dave became teh host of MITD, I’m tuning out and choosing sleep over the program..

D Schrader - “If you have no vices you probably won’t have any fun in life.”

Insightful and quick on the draw.

I am officially a fan.

I prefer the local doughnut shop...the one where all the old men gather to talk about life. There's one outside of the local AF base...the best entertainment with your freshly made pastry.

I wish we had a place like that around here.....

Raw head?

Is he talking about that lady who used to to pay-per-minute phone sex?

I’m ashamed of myself for posting that.   Anyone know a witch who can punish me?

No that wasn’t a joke but my who’s was.  About 999 pages ago so eone pointed out that Art had a misspelling on Ramona’s headstone. He should have used “Whose” but used “Who’s”. It is funnier when you don’t have to explain it though.

I remember the posts about the misspelling.   I’m on the East Coast; I’ve been awake for about 19 hours so I’m slow on the uptake right now.   I bow to your subtlety.

Who’s?

About a thousand pages ago someone on here said HLW either was - or claimed to be - designing Art’s headstone.   I assumed the statement was a joke.

I thought he was FROM minn. but maybe broadcast from somewhere else

Wait - what?!  You mean DS is not actually broadcasting from the studio of “flagship station KNYE”?!

If DS is not broadcasting from there then HLW’s claim to the “legacy” may be stronger than we think because given her special connection to AB I’m sure she broadcasts from atop the AB headstone she designed.

Many years ago I dated a girl whose last name was Brittain.  She was great-looking.  Her mom, however.....  I am waiting for the Dave’s guest to mention her.

Lawsuits can only come after There's an actual infraction... Correct?

First comes the cease and desist letter.  Assuming the infringing conduct continues, then comes the lawsuit.   And the damages can be significant.  Here is part of the applicable statute (emphasis added

17 U.S. Code § 504 - Remedies for infringement: Damages and profits
US Code
Notes
prev | next
(a)In General.â€"Except as otherwise provided by this title, an infringer of copyright is liable for eitherâ€"
(1) the copyright owner’s actual damages and any additional profits of the infringer, as provided by subsection (b); or
(2) statutory damages, as provided by subsection (c).
(b)Actual Damages and Profits.â€"
The copyright owner is entitled to recover the actual damages suffered by him or her as a result of the infringement, and any profits of the infringer that are attributable to the infringement and are not taken into account in computing the actual damages. In establishing the infringer’s profits, the copyright owner is required to present proof only of the infringer’s gross revenue, and the infringer is required to prove his or her deductible expenses and the elements of profit attributable to factors other than the copyrighted work.
(c) Statutory Damages.â€"
(1) Except as provided by clause (2) of this subsection, the copyright owner may elect, at any time before final judgment is rendered, to recover, instead of actual damages and profits, an award of statutory damages for all infringements involved in the action, with respect to any one work, for which any one infringer is liable individually, or for which any two or more infringers are liable jointly and severally, in a sum of not less than $750 or more than $30,000 as the court considers just. For the purposes of this subsection, all the parts of a compilation or derivative work constitute one work.
(2) In a case where the copyright owner sustains the burden of proving, and the court finds, that infringement was committed willfully, the court in its discretion may increase the award of statutory damages to a sum of not more than $150,000.

Confession: I have never listened to this crap before but thought due to name that "Late Night In The Midlands" was some British show. I didn't know there was "Midlands" in South Carolina.

As a proud South Carolinian, I am pleased to provide your SC geography lesson for the day.

South Carolina is informally divided into 4 regions (see map)
Pee Dee - counties in the lower watershed area of the Pee Dee River; river and region named
after an old indian tribe; home area of Revolutionaty War hero Francis Marion, the
“Swamp Fox”; Florence is the econimic hub of this region
Lowcountry - counties in the cultural region along the lower coast, including the sea islands;
area of the ancient sea coast;  Charleston, Beaufort, and Hilton Head are in this region
Midlands - counties in the middle of the state, generally between the ancient sea coast to the south
and the mountains to the north; the state capital, Columbia, is in this region
Upstate -  counties in the upper, northwestern part of the state; a portion of the Blue Ridge
Mountains are here; Greenville is in this region;  location of Clemson University

Thanks for tolerating my late night nerd attack!

KRowland using Schrader’s tag line in the post teasing the new host - clue or red herring?

I say clue!

so..seems the ideas are

it could be bateman....perhaps...and i would enjoy it but not sure the man himself wants to deal with the hassle

Schrader would be a good get for KR..but i am not sure he has the money for that kinda get

i would guess it is a slightly known/relative unknown that is willing to do it for cheap/free to get exposure

I’m sure some of the people in this chat group would expose themselves for cheap or free.
But not me.   I may be easy but I ain’t cheap!

Yeah, that's been his tag line all along.

Sigh.

I’m with you SpookyTim - my preference would be Knapp. However, I suspect that the money is not good enough and the work necessary to present a quality program 5 nights a week would conflict with his television gig.

Thanks so much...it surprises me that George would take such a hard stance, but I don't know him that well. I would have thought he'd appreciate the lead-in. I wonder what conflict there is, unless the new host is one of his fill-ins.

If the new guy is a former C2C guest host, is Noory enough of a jerk that he might announce the name sometime between now and Monday?

The statement Keith posted on the MITD web site today is a work of art (no pun intended).  In three paragraphs he subtly but effectively paid tribute to Art, bid farewell to Heather, and started the countdown for the launch of a new era for MITD.

Keith has handled the tragedy of Art’s death and and the unprofessionalism of Heather’s antics with class and dignity.  Well-played.

If Heather and Keith had intended to re-run an old show and shown that on the web site it would be okay.  But to make the change after advertising a live show and not a) make an announcement at the top of the show, and/or b) put an explanation on the web site is unprofessional.   Subscribers - the people who make the show financially possible - deserve better.
