I guess it isn't so much the content of the shows that sticks with me, it's where I was in my life when he tagged along.

The summer before I started college, spending all night out in the garage getting spooked, bouncing a tennis ball against the wall and listening to Coast. The October when I went camping with my parents, and sat outside with a kerosene lamp between my knees to keep me warm, and a crappy, staticy radio up to my ear until the batteries died. Listening to one old show after another for hours and hours and hours on long car trips. The excitement of hearing his voice again when DM and then MiTD started.

Sadly, I didn't get to hear many of his best shows live. If I had to pick some that stick out to me that I've heard multiple times each, it would probably be the shows with Malachi Martin.

Anyway, I can't think of any media/entertainment figure I've spent so much time over the years listening to. Maybe that's why this makes me feel sadder than I would have expected.

Eh, live and learn.  It opens the door for some guests who know how to stay on topic and share the fascinating details of this case with us.

I don't know what to think of that interview.  On the one hand the guy was kind of boring anyway.  On the other hand, instead of forcing the guy to talk about something else it felt like we had an hour-long meta discussion with callers about why the interview was a failure. 

It's my natural instinct to take up for him.  He seemed nice enough but didn't really have all that much that was interesting to actually say about the case and chose a poor time to talk about being slighted by people. 

Even though Celente is no Nostradamus, he would have been a more interesting and productive 3-hour guest than this cat.

In that same vein, I loved the show about caving with Bonnie Crystal(?).

Also, shows about people vanishing from the face of the earth.  Not so much David Paulides type stuff, but people who may have learned things they weren't supposed to and are missing.

Personally I'm a fan of the loosely-focused open lines with a general theme (time travelers, Antichrist, witches, vampires, etc.).  Maybe I just haven't experienced pure open lines with Art in so many years (and suffered through Noory's painful open lines attempts) that it will take some acclimation.

I thought she did very well, especially for someone who hasn't done that sort of thing before.

I definitely think there's a place for that on the show.  Maybe a short segment on certain nights with her to sort of recap or discuss threads/ideas that were never quite resolved during the show. 

I don't know if there are many Red Eye fans here, but Andy Levy does this at the end of every episode, making little corrections and asking questions that got overlooked during the show.

Just my suggestion.

I was pleasantly surprised with the clarity over shortwave (WTWW) during the test show.  I wish I still had my C.Crane Pocket SW but the antenna broke and it only gets AM now.

If at home I'll probably listen to the AAC stream on PC.  Otherwise I'll use TuneIn on my Android when I'm away from home.

I honestly like the fact that the show isn't some polished corporate product.  It gives it a homebrew feel, like we're listening to some guy (that we've known for 20 years) broadcast out of his basement. 

Thunderstorms notwithstanding, glitches will happen so it's cool to just roll with it and not worry too much.  Rolling with it is something for which Art has always had a particular gift.  I can't imagine how Dave would handle this, besides going to more commercials for 20 minutes.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned him already, but I found Art's interview with Bart Kosko on AI and fuzzy logic utterly fascinating.

A lot has changed in AI and computer technology in the last 10 years, it would be really interesting to listen to someone with a very deep understanding of the subject.

My favorite aspect of the 90's shows was that there was a sense that almost anything could happen. 

Probably some of the best moments in radio history happened live and unscripted during open lines.  Even the worst and most unpleasant/crazy guests and callers were turned into entertainment by skillful hosting. 

I can't stand to listen to Noory, but I don't hate him.  The fact that you could replace him with a tape recorder actually gives me hope that I, too, might someday be a syndicated radio talk show host.

It seems like broadcasting on SW also allows a workaround to the online streaming listener limit.  If the streaming hits that cutoff (I disremember how many thousands that number was), new listeners can go to shortwave--either via a web SDR or over the air.

I don't know if that has anything to do with the decision, but either way it's pretty nifty.

Never underestimate the efficacy of crowdfunding.  There's a good chance you might be able to get more than you need if it gets enough attention.

Art, an off-topic question but recently I was listening to the Dark Matter show with Michael and Nicole Sebastian--the "dream team"--and at one point you said, "I just want to remind everybody that I'm armed."

As a fellow gun owner and shooting enthusiast, what are you into?  Plinking? hunting?  Do you CCW? 

I've heard you mention guns on occasion, here and there throughout the years and I always kind of wondered.

Personally I think aliens and bigfoot have just been done to death, except the occasional interesting events in the news.

Another vote for the shows about how to disappear.  Those shows with the P.I. Ed Pankau were classic, but a lot of the advice therein is probably not practicable today post-9/11 and post-Patriot Act/NSA spying.  An updated version would be very interesting.  Sadly, it looks like Ed died some time back so I don't know who could be an equivalent expert on the subject.

I think it would be very interesting to have open lines shows dedicated to taking calls (or emails, etc.) from purported, anonymous whistleblowers at the Corporate or Government level.  Doing this show online allows for the possibility of pretty strong identity protections vs. using POTS.

Also, shows about the truly bizarre, seemingly nonsensical happenings that don't really fit into any particular category.  The story from George Knapp about Skinwalker Ranch with two Dog Men wearing trench coats and smoking cigarettes comes to mind.  Just random, weird things that defy categorization.

Haunted movies or cursed film sets.

MK Ultra, mind control, "Kitten" programming and Hollywood/Washington/Music Industry sex abuse connections.  Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and vocal mesmerism. 

Radio anomalies of all types.  I expect this is a topic Art would be interested in and be very knowledgeable in discussing.  Numbers stations, bizarre radio signals, military chatter, ghostly radio transmissions, setting up information infrastructures using RF post-Apocalypse.

Haunted objects (books, jewelry, mirrors, Jewish dybbuk boxes).

Strange unexplained murders and disappearances.

Immortals/people who don't age (either in a biological or supernatural).

Underground creatures or paranormal experiences associated with mining and caving.

G. Edward Griffin would be a very interesting guest.

Also, I think it would be nice if the end-time could be a tiny bit malleable, so that maybe on a rare occasion if a particular guest or caller is just so very interesting that we've just got to hear more, Art could say, "Oh, what the Hell?  Let's keep going for a little longer". 

It seems that without the restrictions of regular radio it would be a lot easier to do this.

Why on earth do I still listen to this show?

I first came to Coast during the transition period and was thinking that I remembered George being less, ah, awful back in the day.  But then I recently listened to a show from back in the day and realized that no, he was always terrible.  It's obviously gotten worse but he sucked to start with.

My favorite Snoory moment from a few nights ago:

I don't think he ever managed to say "Duly noted" around his stroke-victim slur.

I've been an avid Coast listener since I was a teenager (early 2000's or so).  I work with computers and have always been fascinated by the paranormal, sci-fi, weird science, etc.  That's not to say I believe in most of it (very little, actually), but I've always been a night owl and listened every single night.  I'm pretty depressed about the state of C2C, but looking forward to more Art Bell and enjoying the old shows every day. 

I've lurked Coastgab/Bellgab for years, but with Art frequently posting I couldn't resist joining up.
