maybe i'm talking out of my ass but i think ian, when he says that, is making a joke.  the quote is from St. Paul from 2Corinthians. 

in context the quote means that if you suffer a fool then you are a fool.  so he is poking fun at himself because when he entertains certain ideas which he considers foolish (defined in the greek and hebrew as those who flagrantly act without regard to the consequences of God's/nature's law) he is actually a fool as well.

its a part of the self-deprecating motif that he often assumes when hosting the show.

i'm in the military.  i'm just an infantryman (dumb grunt) but i have friends in Special Forces and the Ranger Battalions and a couple friends in Marine Force Recon and Navy SeAL's and I have never heard about any of this and neither have they (or so they say.) 

i also have a friend in the air force who is decently high rank and a general's aide who reviews dispatches sent to the general and determines which require his attention and which can be handled by lower staff members.  he also has not heard anything about this.

its probably programs that have been outsourced to educational institutions and the common soldier/marine/seaman/airman of less than field grade officer rank would not know anything about it.  kinda like ed dames.  he was a major (field grade officer) so he knew stuff and was in charge of stuff that the average enlisted guy wasn't privy to (and as a field grade officer is subject to reactivation at any time the government deems him still physically and mentally capable of discharging the duties of his rank.)

i can attest to the various non-lethal technology that you see on 'future weapons' and shows like that cuz they send squad leaders and higher to classes where we learn how to use it and evaluate its real-world practicality so all that stuff is real but very little is being depolyed on today's battlefield.

of course this doesn't mean that it isn't happening cuz they do tell me stuff that's classified ( i have a secret clearance) that i am cleared to know and some of it is pretty crazy and blows my mind and makes me thankful that i'm just a dumb grunt.

and thanx to you as well, EvB.  as for pounding sand, I feel like I'm a subject-matter expert.  I'll keep in mind how badass and open minded everyone here is.  I generally hate message boards but this one is pretty cool.  I think the spirit of Art Bell tears down the normal boundaries that keep people from having decent and intelligent discussions.

First post.  Not usually very talkative but figured I'd give my own personal experience for everyone to take for what it is worth.

I kinda have to agree with EvB regarding people of faith being treated as people of low intelligence and dubious mental stability.  At least, that has been my experience.

In college I was a physics major and I am also a Roman Catholic (somewhat lapsed due to the current state of the church.)  Somehow my muslim, buddhist, hindu, and pagan friends never got the shit that I got for believing in "an invisible man who lives in the sky."

I am currently an infantry squad leader in the United States Army and have been deployed for 27 months to Iraq (two separate deployments) and I have had a close up look at how at least one other religion operates and I am actually glad Christianity is around.

That's my two cents worth.
