Its funny cause I felt it was a fake call as well. I think the moment was when she talked about her daughter. Something about it seemed "off".
A great call, very entertaining but the timing for a call like that was very suspicious.
Like she was a character.
Could be it was real to Art and she set it up, I dunno.

Does it really matter? No not really.....its bout entertainment.

I used laptop and Blackberry Z30. Tried Tunein App on both and DMDN pop up player on both.

The first hour was great, however after that the stream began to slowly break down and finally it became unlistenable. It was as if the stream lost a stereo channel and I could not hear Art nor most of the bumper music. I could however hear Graham ok.

Something funky was going on for sure.

Yes it was....dual servers with 8MB of Ram now!

By the drops and stream quality someone needs to deploy a few more.

#1. Bell Gab is a microcosm of the entire Art Bell listening audience.

Anything Art or Sirius could wish to know about how the advertising is working , how the listening audience is responding, what works and doesn't work can all be accurately measured here.

This forum is a gold mine for both Art (for ideas , opinions, where to take the show) and for Sirius and its advertisers.

Pretty simple.

Just create a free e-mail account on yahoo or whatever and go with the free trial.(Again)
I'm on my 3rd free trial cause here in Canada its only 14 days.
I plan on subbing after this trial is over, Art is better than ever as far as I'm concerned and he's worth the money.
But...I could have the free trials for as long as the free trials last. ;)

So cheer up and stop whining. Go get a free trial using a new e-mail.

I'd still take any of Art's show over that other guy - there's just no comparison whatsoever.

Amen Brother! Last nights show was great, as was every single show Arts done.....EVER.

Amazing to me how I am still at Arts mercy after all these years.
I still feel guilty when miss a show.

He is just as good (or better) now  than he was in '95. Just amazing.

All of this is apples an oranges really.
George is terrestrial radio Art is extra- terrestrial radio.

People always vote with their wallet.
George is free,  Art is not.

I don't think Art is gonna make much of a difference in what goes on over at Coast.

Now, if somehow some deals were made and Sirius and terrestrial radio decided work together and Art was available over the AM Band, he would kill Coast.

Well put me down as another who thought a particular Spot should not be played during Art's show.
I'm not whining or threatening to cancel or anything, but , it really doesn't belong in its current "form" during an Art Bell show.
Just not tasteful.

I don't know what your all talking about! ::)
Ed Dames was at the time, a riveting interview every time he was on. Yes I agree, in hindsight, we know he was full of shit, but at the time it was pure ear candy when he was on.
I would absolutely (even knowing what I know now) still love to hear a Dames interview with Art again. Its about entertainment folks, I feel that Dames brings that when he is interviewed by Art.
Lets face it, most of Arts guests were full of it except for the guys like Kaku. I mean, Mels hole?????? A classic, but nonsense.

I for one hope Dames is one of his first few guests.

If Art truly wanted to get back on the air then his use of social media has dashed any hopes of any company ever hiring him.

He should not have publicly stated that he was in negotiations before a deal was done. Any future potential employer will be wary about this.

He should not have publicly stated that his reasons for not taking the deal was revenge. This is a rookie mistake. He should have just said that the deal wasn't right and we probably wouldn't have begrudged him that. What future employer is going to want to deal with him now that he has publicly shown such a flaw in his motivations and decision making process? Who would want to deal with such a "flaky" personality?

Maybe I gave Art more credit but his use of social media since his return to the "public" eye shows a complete lack of experience and knowledge of the art of negotiation. He should have been playing his cards close to his chest if he was holding a full house. You only bluff when you're holding a pair of deuces.

Something about his whole handling of these "negotiations" smells fishy and just throws up more questions than answers. But this is Art we are taking about so I don't know why I was expecting anything else.

I know eh? Right!
If one actually reads the post he published, its not defendable.
Its as if he went on a bender for a week and just now sobered up and realized what he said.

I'm disappointed with Art's recent post... This is just my opinion but I don't think it's 100% truthful. Sure, it's a noble enough sentiment that plays well with the fans but c'mon is it too cynical to say it's doubtful that a 68 year old Radio Legend who has had nothing but time on his hands recently "struggled" with the right and wrong reasons to do a radio show? Maybe, but it's my thinking Art chose to tell fans that instead of the bluntly honest and sympathic truth that "Hey, they offered me a crappy deal and I said NO" I think Art told us that lest we think he is a"money grubber" like so many others and ding his reputation...just my thought. Clearly, Art appreciates his fans and cares what they think. I actually hope he was being dishonest because if he was telling the truth and he waffled at the last minute then this is just another example of the "Flaky, Troubled Art Bell" What company in their right minds would want to do business with this guy? What company would invest significant amounts of money into a guy who may not show up for work or retire (again) in a month. That's being hard on him I know but I think all of us hoped  that "stuff" was behind him. Again, Art is 68...at 68 you know who are, what you think, and how you feel..sure he's a complicated guy but not anymore complicated than the rest of us. I say this somewhat tongue in cheek but maybe the best thing for us to do for Art Bell is to stop kissing his A$$ all the time and excerise some tough love. Art doesn't have to travel very far on the internet to see thousands of people telling him how great he was/is...day in and day out...and for some people that is enough. That sustains their vanity.  It's a helluva lot easier simply being told you're great and the best than going and proving you're STILL the best.

I personally,  am taking Art at his word.
He posted, "Ok Friends,  here's an Honest Update" Right from the get go, he puts his own credibility on the line. I assume, what followed was the truth.
"I was thinking of doing this for the wrong reasons". - Ok, so its not about any Deal that was not sufficient.
"I was angry at Premier and I still am, that is the wrong reason to launch a radio show" - What? ???

So...he wasn't doing it out of love for radio anymore?
His only motivation for returning was, *cough* jealously or revenge? Not love? He just figured that out now?

Pathetic is all I can say.

Art is a scarce quantity (or at least perceived as such), so we've fixated on him too much, in my opinion.  If Coast had a competent host, then we probably wouldn't talk much about Art at all anymore.

I can see an alternate history where a forum such as this would be focused on talking about guests and topics, rather than scrutinizing hosts ad infinitum.

Speak for yourself ;D .
No one can or has  produced a show as magical as C2C AM with Art bell. No one.

Jeebus.

It was Art. No maybe about it.

He updated his fans about his possible return -- and that's all he ever said it was -- because Art Bell fans (me included) constantly beg him to come back and ask him for news. He then changed his mind for a solid reason. That doesn't warrant the death penalty or even a public flogging with a wet noodle, regardless of the fact he's changed his mind before. He didn't lie to anyone or tell everyone to read between the lines and speculate themselves to orgasm. In fact, he cautioned people to wait and see because nothing was a done deal.

I understand how disappointed people are but turning that disappointment into rage against Art is unfair and ridiculous. And Beyon' Bleef too.

CrabbyOld Bat!

Yea Yea, possible return...cautioned people to wait....not a done deal....stay tuned...I was under the false impression that ONLY a BAD deal could kill this. I accepted that possibility. To find out it was a change of heart...well....wtf.
If public flogging is out of the question, then i suggest a piece of chalk and blackboard so he can write "I shall not get peoples hopes up until I'm sure of what I'm doing"

Look, he knows people have been waiting on his return for years. His comments carry weight. As such, he needed to be more cautious about saying anything publicly until he was more confident in his position.
A deal being struck was NOT the reason for his reversal. It was his state of mind that changed.
His state of mind and motivations should have been worked out before he pursued a deal with a Network or publicly posting anything.
Imagine how the Broadcast network he was in talks with feels as well! You have the great Art bell as a potential Host in your rotation and he says I changed my mind? SLAM.

I don't see how any Network is going to feel comfortable signing Art now.

Its not rage I'm feeling. I am really pissed off yes, but not in a rage.

I don't think I'm over reacting at all. I praise Art for making the attempt, but he should have kept it to himself until he worked out his revenge issues.

Believe  me, its only because I Love Art so much that I am so dismayed. I feel like we've been played.

I',m sorry but all you people finding ways to defend Art on this are letting him off the hook way to easily.
What Art did was irresponsible. He should be flogged for it.
Its not about art "owing anything to anybody".
Art wasn't pressured into coming back. We didn't ask to have our hopes raised up.  HE initiated this, not us.

You don't tell tell a group of starving people, "Hey I Might have found you food and water, i just have to go get it!" then turn around and tell them "Opps my bad, it was just a mirage"
If your not sure you should keep your mouth shut! (Or in this case, get off the keyboard)

The use of words "might, maybe, stay tuned....blah blah blah" are meaningless. He has always used those terms as an escape route.
Fine, a deal wasn't worked out (What deal? I doubt there was one) but to blame ones motivation?
Revenge? Bahaha....After all these years it never occurred to him that revenge was leading his decisions?
Unbelievable.

Its also possible, this was never Art in the first place. Maybe.

Just an Update to Am 800 CKLW's PD response;

"Hello Test,

Thanks for the e-mail and phone call.
No denying Art Bells popularity.

Let me see what I can find out and if it will fit with AM800's weekly schedule.

Have a Great Day,

Keith"

AM 800 CKLW is HUGE transmitter. Not power wise but geographically wise. Seems they don't know yet.
If any of you happen to live in the Southern Ontario, Michigan Area,  please call. The more the better. Or....e-mail him.

That's what he said.

I sent this as a private message to someone and added some on that I didn't put on this one. He (the market manager) was very careful to only answer my questions. The program directors have been free flowing with information, but this guy was way more tight lipped. Had the girl before him not given me information, I don't know if I would have gotten anything out of him. He didn't say they were going to switch, he said they were midway through the decision process. That could be to look at Art's numbers and go from there, or whatever.

Feel free to disagree with any of my opinions or whatever, but know this. I wouldn't misquote anyone I spoke with on the phone when anyone else could just as easily make the same call. No BS in my posts, sir.

Sorry, the BS really wasn't directed at you although it came across that way.
Its directed at the idea that a PD would swap a VITAL time slot that already has a popular program for an unproven one.
Yes, we agree that ART could potentially compete with c2c. Thats not proven yet.
One thing thats certain is that nothing happens unless someone makes money.
Arts return, could be a bust or it could panecea.
With not even ONE (new/format) show under his belt how could ANY PD possibly consider seriously changing that time slot?

On another note, what is the actual Hierarchy when it comes to programing? Is it entirely local?

KDAL, KROC also looking at it right now, whether they should switch to Art's show or not.

Just talked to the market manager of all MN affiliates, KDAL connected me to him. He said they are right now midway through the decision phase. He seemed really caught off guard by my inquires and a little uncomfortable. So not only are they considering switching one or two of the affiliates in the Minneapolis/MN area, but ALL of the affiliates.

Its very clear to me that this is a done deal, and has been done for a little while now.

I gotta call BS on this.
There is NO WAY in hell that ANY affiliates PD would consider removing C2C in favor of Art so quickly.
Even though C2C isn't viewed very highly here, it is still a HUGE night time slot for all those affiliates. They will not pull it until it becomes clear Arts new show has an audience. It just won't happen  for a while in my opinion.
It just makes no business sense to do that.
Thats like asking a restaurant to pull its most profitable night time dish in favor of a new dish no one has tasted yet.
Gonna take time.

I took your lead and called two of my local radio affiliates are in Pennsylvania and both seem to have knowledge that this was happening, but they were not at liberty to say if a switch would be made instead they put me in connection with program managers and I'm waiting for calls back..

I guess I'll call AM 800 in Windsor, see what they say.
*EDIT*

AM 800, no info available yet.

To be fair, as horrible as C2C is right now, your not gonna see stations jumping ship for quite sometime.
Art has to prove he has a show. More importantly, how many nights, and his dedication to it.

Its pretty obvious from my perspective that Art Bell has been chomping at the bit FOR YEARS to be able to come back to radio.
Forget all the "I love retirement" comments.  He may have liked the time off, but I don't believe for a single solitary second that he wanted "Retirement"
The fact that the Day his Non-comp agreement expired,  he let his intentions be known publically, means that he's probably been in talks for a year or more leading up to this date.
You don't scramble at the last moment or "throw together" a potentially HUGE program so quickly.
What we are seeing and hearing I believe, are the finishing touches on something a long time in the making.

If Art hadn't had that clause of No-competition, he would have been back on radio in some capacity long ago.

I have a feeling that Art is going to clear a lot of "air" when he gets back on the "air".

Well that just plain sucks. I dunno if your young or old but let me tell ya..back in the day, I ran an Art Bell chat room (One among many of course) . It was the best time I ever had. All of us going to ONE place to talk Art. Only then, Art was actually on the air at the time.
In my opinion,
"There is no substitute for a real time chat room."

Sure you can twit or post on facebook and "wait' for feedback. For me, I want a conversation between all those in the same chat room.

Its just better.

So Michael, hows about a chat room? Is it doable?

For those Interested, My Mom (Yes my mom) was involved in the Reed fiasco back in 97-98.
She was the one who used her skills to determine that the "alien" had a series of straight pins throughout the body, seemingly to hold it together at certain points.

Here is article:

I remember all of this going on in the house at the time.
