I see several people on here criticize Noory for putting Alex Jones on the show.

Sure, what Alex says can be challenging. But if you actually research what he says, some of it checks out and is unsettling.

Example: the National Defense Authorization Act 2012 which allows the military to indefinitely detain US citizens without trial or due process. Furthermore, it was revealed by the congressman that inserted this provision that the White House (Obama) had demanded the provision be added, ostensibly so Obama could proudly veto the bill on the basis of denying the very provision he'd demanded be inserted! Then he turned around and signed the damn thing! You don't exactly hear Sean Hannity, Brian Williams or Rachel Maddow talking about that stuff, do ya?

Where I'll agree that Jones sucks is that he's easily the rudest talk show host I've EVER heard. Constant interruptions, digressing to personal experiences that are only tangentially related to the issue at hand and confabulation to no end ("The troops are growing opium in Afghanistan!" No, Alex, the clip YOU JUST PLAYED clearly stated that they're doing nothing to stop opium cultivation. Stopping it is outside of their mission orders. You're making it sound like they're out there plowing fields, planting, tending, harvesting and processing.) Then there's the disparaging of homosexuals: inane comments about foppish men, "Butch Napolitano" (Janet) and "Mr. Maddow" (Rachel); for a self-described civil libertarian, he sure has a sucky way of living up to his ideals.

I could continue and point out the legions of AJ's crappery. As a talk show host, he is far worse in his essential skills than even George Noory and as we all know, Noory sucks. I'm just saying that it seems to me a lot of people herein dislike Alex Jones, which is totally understandable, but it seems to me it's for ill-defined and/or the wrong reasons.

A few nights ago I was listening to KLBJ out of Austin and they were playing a "best of" George Noory. My first thought was, "Really?? Is there such a thing? They musta had to look pretty damn hard."

A country sounding dude had called in and just starting kissing Noory's rump something fierce, making comments to the effect that he had traveled all over the country and that George Noory was the best interviewer he ever heard (he ought to know, after all, because he listens to a lot of talk radio). Though, he did say something about a host in Georgia being pretty good. Don't recall the host's name, so maybe the Georgian was cruddy and the compliment was actually a spoof. Anyway, the whole call sounded like a pathetic setup and that seemed confirmed when Noory replied (paraphrasing):

"Sometimes I ask questions that people think come out of left field. Like maybe I'll ask them (pause) 'Did you play baseball when you were a kid?' But you know what? There's a reason I ask those questions. It loosens up the guest and helps them to relax. I explained that once to a to another host I was talking to at a convention and he said, 'You know what? That makes sense!'"

I can't imagine the expression on my face but needless to say, I ain't picking up what Noory's puttin' down. Doesn't he realize that his absurd excuse doesn't even remotely explain all of his turd-festooned habits? Repeating questions, asking questions that literally have just been answered, missing obvious follow up questions and interjecting his own marginally related experiences and recollections as though he is adding to the conversation (it doesn't). That's the height of stupidity... when you are so stupid that you can't even properly account for your own dumbsmithing.

Thanks for the info.  I knew it was an old article, but I had hope.  I can still dream of a Noory free C2C.

I can go one perhaps slightly better. During the Alex Jones show's last money bomb, Jones interviewed Noory and after Jones had dutifully kissed Noory's nasty rump, Noory said something to the effect that he planned to retire by dying while hosting the show.

Noory will be 62 in June, if wikipedia is right about his birthday. Not too young but not especially old. My God, if he were to pull a Larry King...

I think I got it.

Maybe George Noory is the real-life David Brent / Michael Scott of radioland. Consider this from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Scott_(The_Office)):

"Michael holds inflated views of himself and considers himself an office comedian, but his attempts at humor tend to fail. Often, he says things that are inappropriate, offensive or unwittingly mean in the hopes of getting a laugh. He lacks maturity and self-awareness, has few friends and is quite lonely, made worse because his efforts to make friends with people usually backfire. Michael will resort to any means possible to make himself the center of attention and often takes credit for the successes of others. His subordinates, with the exception of Dwight Schrute (Tom Danheiser), think of him as inept and several of them remark that they get their work done whenever Michael is distracted or away.

Michael wasn't always an incompetent employee at Dunder Mifflin. Before he was promoted to regional manager, he was a great salesman, able to relate well with clients and use his personable attitude to his advantage. However, his promotion put him into a position above his level of competence, making him an embodiment of the Peter Principle."

And on the Peter Principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle):

"The principle holds that in a hierarchy, members are promoted so long as they work competently. Eventually they are promoted to a position at which they are no longer competent (their "level of incompetence"), and there they remain, being unable to earn further promotions. Peter's Corollary states that "in time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out their duties" and adds that "work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence." "Managing upward" is the concept of a subordinate finding ways to subtly "manage" superiors in order to limit the damage that they end up doing."

Although, the article goes on to say, "This principle can be modeled and has theoretical validity for simulations. However, there has been no large-scale statistical verification of the Peter Principle, and most evidence given for the axiom is intended to be humorous and is usually anecdotal."

I think Noory provides sufficient empirical evidence to validate the theory.

John B. Wells sucks too. He belongs on NPR, assuming he belongs anywhere on radio.

I sure wish he'd (Strieber) find something else for the wife to do when he's on the air, though.

Agreed. She doesn't add much, and the last time they were on together, she told a rather awkward story. Evidently Whit had gone to some babe's house (expecting what exactly, I don't know). Evidently once there she tried to jump his bones, whereupon he called Anne incessantly. Anne went on to tell him if he was going to have an affair, to go ahead and get it over with but stop calling her about it. At which point Whit defended himself by saying he was trying to call her so much so as to hint to her to give him an excuse to leave.

Not Coast's finest guest host moment, but a candid look inside the Strieber's personal life.

I admit it. I kicked him while he was down due to the loss of his father. But after having heard the the Brother Guy interview and the hair-raising incompetence contained therein, I just had to try to get my voice heard by the perpetrator himself. I simply couldn't ignore it. I mean, I really tried to let it go and say to myself, "He's in a slump because his dad just died." But deep down I knew it wasn't true. The interview was just another datapoint delineating the curve of his cosmos-spanning dumbsmithing. So I baited him with a juicy subject line.

I really liked your interview with Brother Guy.

It once again proved your complete ineptitude and inability to engage genuine intellectuals in any meaningful way.

You surely would've been better off being a dentist because your somnambulistic personality is perfect for putting people to sleep, not engaging their minds. Please stop being the host of Coast to Coast AM, if you have any decency left in you.

Can you get any dumber?

Personally, I found his reply not only insightful and thought provoking, but it also triggered a paradigm shift in my worldview. His powers of deduction surely are staggering.

Yet another fine interview from George Knapp, this time with William Black

Noory, you substandard waste of airtime, you ought to be ashamed that the fill-in hosts regularly run circles around your peabrained "skills".

What part of " my mother saw precisely the same entity a year prior" did you not understand?

Talk about brain development. Or lack thereof.

two words for shadow people, hypnagogic hallucinations.

Uh, not.

I saw one when I was only two years old, in the middle of the night. Hypnagogic imagery happens as you're drifting to sleep, not in the middle of a two-year-old's sleep cycle.

To boot, my mother saw precisely the same entity a year prior, when I was only one year old, also in the middle of the night, peering into my crib as I slept. This is not an example of hypnagogic-anything.

I am not making a claim as to what it is. Rather, I am simply stating what it is not.

The term "money bomb" annoys me. You'd have to be bombed to give one red cent to these jokers from Alex Jones to Ron Paul. Ron Paul must be richer than Jerry Jones at this point, doesn't he have a money bomb every fiscal quarter?

In referring to the money bomb, I was merely providing context by explaining why Jones was interviewing Noory. But what does your opinion about these men have to do with George Noory sucks?

Shameless ass-kissing. Unfuckingbelievable.

I want to say some words about how others in the media, the milieu of George Noory hangers-on, that unabashedly kiss his trashbag rectum just for some table scraps from the Nightsqauwk's last dinner. This current rant is about Alex Jones.

I was listening to his latest Infowars "Money Bomb" broadcast. At the beginning of the 5th hour, none other than George Noory was the guest. At approximately 2 to 3 minutes into the hour, I heard the following:

Alex Jones: Well, George, that... in fact... that was my next question for you. You see the awakening, you are a world-renowned analyst, media personality, researcher, probably one the best interviewers out there bar none, probably even better than Larry King in his heyday. You have your finger on the pulse, so I know you're picking up what I'm picking up. Uh, I am a person who is well-known, especially because of the internet and so anywhere I go, people stop me, and it's not every 10 or 15 people now, it's every 3 or 4 or 5, no matter where I go. Blah, blah, blah.

I literally screamed out loud in an elevator, "What??"

I perfectly understand that this and similar incidents are about cozying up and keeping the warm fire of ratings and advertising dollars burning bright. A pathway to this goal is feeding upon Geroge Noory's excrement. Sounds like a good way to get tapeworms to me. But even if Jones was simply being calculating by having Noory on the broadcast and using his presence to create a ratings synergy, why in the world would anyone go out of their way to say such patently false statements?

Can anyone point to different reasons why this might be happening? Is there any chance in hell that people like Jones really believe this absurdity? Or are there other possible explanations?

I would be especially interested in hearing about other "media personalities" who have sunk so low as to venerate this false prophet.

I'm sure George started freaking out 45 minutes in because he was all out of 3x5 cards.

I've seen this comment a lot here. Is it in fact true, or simply speculation? If it's true, what's the source?

Don't get me wrong. I am totally prepared to believe it because it makes perfect sense to explain the endless flux of nonsense.

No matter how nice he is and sounds like such a pleasant chap. Do not trust this soulless bastard.

A-frigging-men! There is something very wrong with a situation where a man has risen practically as high as he can go in his career, yet seems incapable of producing anything other than a dimwitted product, and without the self-awareness or interest in noticing the shortcomings and doing something about it!

I've speculated previously a few reasons why this is (see previous posts of mine, including a reply I got from Coast producer Lisa Lyon). But one of the explanations I proposed was that the Nightsquawk is some kind of evil genius, carefully crafting the dungloaf the audience is expected to enjoy, but hiding behind the mask of a blockhead, all in an attempt to misdirect the torpid listener on several levels.

I know, I know. These thoughts are madness. But they still linger in the back of my mind...

Here's a new gem. 2011-09-01, Hour 3, 6 minutes 12 seconds, in a discussion with physicist John Brandenburg about his book, Beyond Einstein's Unified Field.

George: Is gravity in the universe, John, is it... is it uh good thing or uh bad thing? You know in some cases...

John: Oh, it's a very good... it's, George believe me, gravity is a good thing.

Thank God that Brandenburg interrupted his silly ass. But I have to wonder, when he said, "You know in some cases..." I gotta wonder what the hell he was about to say.

I've actually heard Nooron feverishly pecking away at a computer keyboard as a guest was talking.  Soon after he blurts out a delicious non-sequitor that continues to define himself as the Master of Broadcast Disaster.

Well, if you've never heard of the guy, check out Rob McConnell. He broadcasts out of Canada on The X-Zone. 90s much? The shows are on iTunes last I checked. And I swear to God on High, he is actually worse than George. You mentioned hearing George on the keyboard, but with RM you can hear the distinct typing click-clack like he's clog dancing or some such. I once heard him with a guest who took a very different stance from the mainstream Christian view of hell and damnation. The man spent several minutes parsing the Scriptural references, lucidly and explicitly explaining who would be saved and who would be damned, and why they would meet the reward or punishment they were dealt. Only to be followed up with an RM question, "Who will go to hell?"

I wrote this chap an email telling him that he basically sucks, only to get a reply that he was going to report me to the Hamilton Ontario police.

Lesson: as bad as it is, it could be worse.

I have noticed a paradox about Noory that I haven't quite resolved in my mind...

Have you ever noticed that a guest or caller will merely mention some obscure reference, and the Gorchmeister will manage to cite the author and book title almost immediately, or some sundry other fact or event? It seems his recall is really quite good. Thus, the paradox because this is despite all of his ongoing failures that I don't need to detail here.

The skeptic in me wonders, especially with callers who have been screened with a HEPA filter, if the info he needs to refer to is sitting there on the computer screen for him to read and create the illusion of intelligence. But this explanation is hard to apply to guests because knowing what they may refer to is harder to predict and prepare for over the course of an interview that lasts a couple of hours.

Another thought I had is perhaps Gorn is demonstrating signs of senility, one symptom of which, I believe, is enhanced recall of past events, but being unable to follow the thread of things going on in the present. But since I never heard him during his Nightsquawk days, it's difficult to know how much he might've degenerated over the years.

So, to use a computer analogy, maybe it's a matter of him having a big hard drive, but an itsy-bitsy teeny-weenie little processor.

Or, how about this one? Is it possible that this man is some kind of, dare I speculate, an evil genius?! What better gatekeeper could there be, but a man who possesses the intelligence to constantly dumb-down and misdirect guests, callers and the audience, to the point that anything of value is nearly impossible to discern? On the whole, such a host would be better than someone who is genuinely stupid because even a stupid person might occasionally slip up and let some light in. I think there is some merit in this hypothesis.

I am right now listening to the 2011-10-01 broadcast with Ian, hour 2, 6 minutes and 38 seconds.

Ian: "When it comes to mythology, we know that in understanding the gods, say, of Greece or Rome or Scandinavia or whatever, is that it's always a battle between good and evil. And then that's also, then, kind of an extension of what's going on within our soul. And we relate to these subjects (of comic books) through these extremes of the superhero and the supervillain."

Could you even CONTEMPLATE George making such an analytical statement? If you're reading on this message board, the no way in hell.

Now, I realize that are many Ian detractors here. I myself have some qualms with him. But I'd like to ask... if you had to choose between the unbridled insipidity of that dullard George Noory or the occasional (insert your complaint here)-ness of the intellectual Ian Punnett, who who it be?

In my personal life I have never loved nor hated a non-political celebrity or public figure. That all changed when George Noory started his vapid ruination of that once great show.

At the risk of being self-indulgent, I would like to share the email I sent. I wanted to make sure they understand exactly how thinking people feel about this supersonic train wreck. And following my email is the reply I got from producer Lisa Lyon.

Subject: Coast Quality

Dear Coast Family,

I think the paradox of Mr. Noory's growing market share despite his brutal incompetence is answerable through two facts.

One is that a lot of people that tune into that show these days never heard it during the Art Bell years and so don't know how much the show has gone down the drain. They just don't know any better.

Second, and more importantly, is that because of all the economic and social conditions in the USA that have steadily and relentlessly been spiraling down the tubes for the for the last three or four years, people are looking for alternative information. They then tune into the show, in increasing numbers, because they are so hungry for answers to the mess, as well as in an attempt to reach for something more. Thus the result of growing ratings notwithstanding the clear fact that Mr. Noory routinely and savagely hacks apart the show's content until absolutely all of the lifeblood of quality and coherence have been drained out of it. And voila, an awful host makes buckets of cash every time he mispronounces a word or fails to ask even the most obvious questions.

In short, the show's success is despite Mr. Noory, not because of him.

Let me be clear that I don't care at all what Mr. Noory is like in his personal life. It doesn't matter one iota if he is a genuine and lovable man or a monster. Because the only part of his life that intersects that of the listening audience is the show itself, which I came to love when Art Bell was in the captain's chair, and these days I still look forward to hearing Punnett and Knapp as well as the guests. It's a real pity that an entire fan base has to suffer through a mind-numbing gauntlet of drool just to try to grab a few gems.

I know a lot of people feel this way. There are entire websites devoted to lampooning Mr. Noory. Granted, even the most beloved of public figures will have detractors. Yet, in the case of Mr. Noory, it is obvious that such attacks on his broadcast skills, or the lack thereof, have explicit merit.

I perfectly understand that Premier Radio is a business and therefore the main concern is making money. But in this time of change, please consider that the most profitable long term business plan in the broadcast business will include providing genuine and honest leadership. Mr. Noory certainly doesn't provide that, in addition to the other aforementioned deficits he regularly demonstrates. It is manifestly imperative that allowing Mr. Noory a gracious exit and replacement with a thinker, such as my preference Ian Punnett, would be the best course of action that could be taken at this time.

Thank you for your collective attention.

Thanks for the input. I'm sorry that George does not do it for you. It is very difficult to follow up an opening act like Art Bell, but George has done a remarkable job overall, and the ratings support that. Thanks for listening.

By the way, Galaga was one of my favorite games, long ago.
