Some people are posting on Arts page now saying its Art's father in law that has cancer, the original post seems to be gone now.

Is there a list anywhere of show dates and the guests? I have a bunch of Art Bell shows dating back to 93 and up to 1999 that have no guest or anything listed, just the air date. Its too many to simply play them all and see who the guest is.
I have found some by checking the somewhere in time shows listed on the C2C site......

Well you have to consider that Whitley Strieber was a screen writer, working on movies such as Wolfen and The Hunger. After working on several so so performing movies, all of the sudden he was abducted by aliens? Right.

I have to ask this pabigfoot:  Have you ever wondered if Art cut the Area 51 caller off for dramatic effect?  Just like a martyr's movement is energized more by his departure, the flyover became legendary because of the cutoff.

Anyone else suspect that might be the case?

Anagrammy
I have read, but never heard this myself, but supposedly the caller called back a few weeks later and admitted the call was faked. It did seem overly dramatic. I have the show where he calls on MP3, and listened to it the other day. So, maybe the board going was just a random event...............Who knows. I never thought that Area 51 pilot caller was real tho.....remember that one?

I think George has at least some control over the show's content. I can't see what profit motive Premiere would have in presenting all the Health and Alternative Medicine topics George loves so much.

He may be under instructions to follow a certain political and religious agenda of Premiere's liking, but maybe, in return for his being their unquestioning lackey, they let him follow his bliss with certain "tweaks" (as he used to call them) of his own liking.  :-\
from what I have learned recently, its likely they are being paid to host those kinds of shows.

Right, Angeleyes.  We here in radioland wonder why Noory doesn't continue with the winning formats.  If I'm recalling correctly, he tried to.  It's a touchy situation because if you announce you have just set up a line for whistleblowers in food packaging plants, people know you aren't getting any calls and can conclude that people don't call you like they did Art.

Noory avoids the audience being able to compare.  I reported here that while I was on a thread on another forum a couple of months ago, one of the participants suddenly said "I'm calling Noory right now and asking him."  She did and to our great surprise she was on in like five minutes.  This was on a Friday night.

We may be around to see the end of Open Lines.  Unless they have paid callers, it could be embarrassing....

Anagrammy
because he is not in control of the shows content, thats why.

1. except payphones, office phones, and every other phone you don't own
2. you wouldn't know if the number was real or masked unless you called it back
3. please cite this FCC law
1. They would still have the location of the call. (most pay phones would not allow 1-800 numbers or the numbers art used anyways.)
2. Depends. There are ways to unravel such things.
3. Cant find a specific link, but its true. It applies to TV stations as well.
http://www.fcc.gov/  search thru here.
I worked in a TV station, and currently work in a radio station. During our afternoon call in show, I can see the log of all that calls that come in. If its a pay as you go cell phone, it logs the carrier and what tower/range it came from.
Guess you never heard of police attaining phone records and such, have you??

For evidence of this, think back to the prediction shows when Art would stress "No predictions of presidential or other public figure assinations".
Art said him self when people say that, they come right to him and get the number and other info of the caller, and question him about it.

Thinking about how Coast has slid into a repetitive religious exercise/health scare show, I suddenly realized I have not heard a single whistleblower in months!

Remember when Art used to lure them out of the woodwork with their own line and promises of anonymity, etc.  AND THEY CALLED!  I was so excited when somebody would call and say they work at a document warehouse or whatever and had seen photos, or somebody works at a lab and was there when they took the microbiologist's body out in a bag.

There was an immediacy and freshness that brought to the show that is gone as irretrievably as a burst bubble.

Any whistleblowers on lately that I missed?

Anagrammy
Because surely they were real and telling the truth. Art was looking for odd people to call,
and that was his way of getting them in rapid response. And for the record, Every call to a radio station or radio show, Including Arts broadcasts, has to keep a log of the callers name and number. Art knew the name and number of everyone that called that show, even if they tried to use one of those ID masker deals. Its an FCC law..... no way around it.

Now that you mention it, livingdead, Art created Mel's Hole, Art's Parts, etc.  He created the whole "fascination with the Vatican"-- he created the entertainment and guests and callers were the raw material for his talent.  Now we have a sort of two-dimensional version.  Like the circus only there are no costumes, no searchlights, no barkers, no acrobats or dancers, no magicians and no sideshow.  Just a train with some seedy guys leading around a bunch of animals in a field.   Not a circus without the props and aura.

George Noory is the killer of "aura of mystery."  George Knapp doesn't really do that either--he's a good reporter and a good interviewer, but he doesn't have the twinkle in the eye.

Anagrammy
Agreed, but Noory was not hired to be "art bell". He was hired to be the host of a radio show.
George is there because they pay him to be. Art was there because he created it.
Knapp comes from television.. a whole other ball game. Which is likely why he
landed the job with Clear Channel, he is used to a structured environment.

Very true. But those days are long gone unfortunately, since those stories were only possible with true UNSCREENED open lines. Even some later regular guests were discovered first just as a caller during open lines back in the 90s like Stan Deyo. He never wrote books which is how they seem to get guests nowadays.

Not possible with the multi-level super-screened lines that Noory has now. Plus the host will cutoff a good story caller if he ever managed to get thru. Even a modern day Mel, MadMan or Bugs wouldn't get more than a few minutes to tell his story and only a comment like "fascinating" or "unbelieveable" and move on never to hear of them again.  :P
Your never going to see a caller get more than 5 minutes or so of air time with a company
like Clear Channel at the helm. Cool stuff like that died with independent radio. I miss the days
of rock radio DJs being able to play random songs or album cuts, something very rare in this day and
age. Its not Noory doing these things, its the powers that be at Clear Channel.

AnnaGrammy,
First one does not interest me much, thats not saying it wont interest others.
Second one, been done a million times. Art and George have both had similar shows, one comes to
mind, back in the AB days they had a guy ( may have been one of the authors of some of the Star Trek
books) about how the technology in star trek is now coming a reality.

Arts, and Coast to Coasts in general, best shows were the open lines shows, and the talks with people
such as Mad Man Markham, Bugs and the bigfoot ( i know its BS, but still, it was great entertainment),
Mels Hole etc. And thats what people forget, and seem to not realize, Art thought of a good deal of
this stuff as nothing more than entertainment. Once it turns into a money making scheme, and not
just a form of good entertainment, thats when it got lost.

Thanks Tara and Ev,  I am hoping that as people pull away from Streamlink and give their reasons in rational, complete explanations with examples, they MIGHT listen up.  I went from an every night-never fail listener to once or twice a week with a ho-hum attitude.  And pretty much everybody here, lurkers and posters, agrees.

Making our case while voting with feet is the best way, the only way, consumers have ever gotten what they want.

Anagrammy
Its very obvious Clear Channel is shifting the show in a new direction. If they were worried about what the old style Coast to Coast am fans were  going to say, they would not  be doing it. How far can you really take a show like coast to coast anyways? How many different bullshit artists can they dig up that knows the truth on ghosts, UFOS, etc etc? Art stumbled upon a great idea way back when when he decided to get out of the politics arena and head for unknown territory, and unfortunately its ran its course. The guests damned the show. People such as Ed Dames and Richard Hoagland and their long lists of things that were gonna happen that never happened started getting stale. And how many BSers like Sylvia Browne can you really bear to hear these days? Alex Jones? Seriously?
Radio has changed greatly since the AB days, its not about the content, its about the ads now. Clear Channel obviously thinks they can sell more ads with a broader audience than a niche audience like Art Bell had. Download some MP3s and relive the glory days, shows over folks...........

I'm thinking of asking my test question on the Fakebook site-- do you think it will get me kicked off if I ask Art if he's the same art with the gmail address and if so, could he give me the date of my email to him this month?

Anagrammy
Anagrammy,
Over the weekend, the person has been blocking anyone who requests any info as to proving he is really art etc etc..............
Due to some actions taken on other facebook Art Bell fan sites, I believe I know who is behind this fake art now.

Well, he seems to be alluding that he has a new show coming on later in the year, and there will be a big announcement at the end of April. If this is not Art, this person needs to be very ashamed of themselves, whoever this is has gotten a lot of people excited.
