Hoagland's political savvy may be judged by the fact that, in April 2011, he confidently predicted that GabrielleGiffords would be Obama's choice as running mate for 2012.

Tonights show (for me tomorrow morning) with Art Bell should be really super cool  with his guest  Dr Basiago - Time Travel, I wonder if there are links to the work being carried out at CERN (LHC)

Three things about Andy Basiago.

First, he has no idea what words mean (or, blog post).  His use of "quantum" and related stuff is the same technobabble you get in an average old-school Star Trek episode.

Second, his powers of pareidolia are even beyond Richard Hoagland's:
Quote“I was astonished by what I found,” he said. “There, on the Red Planet, were beings in blue bodysuits and the abstract artwork of a Martian civilization. I was looking at the first evidence of life beyond Earth!”

In his letter to the National Geographic Society, the lawyer writes that careful evaluation of PIA10214 reveals “a cosmic treasure trove of pictographic evidence of life on Mars, including humanoid beings, animal species, carved statues, and built structures.”

According to Basiago, the humanoid beings photographed in PIA10214 have bulbous heads and elongated bodies, like the extraterrestrials described in alien contact accounts. Some have two arms and legs like human beings, while others have multiple appendages and segmented or larval bodies, as if they are human-insect hybrids.

Third, people seem to think that his story is credible because he hasn't changed it (much).  I've heard several interviewers say this (and also about John Lear).  Because your story changes doesn't mean it's real!  For example, I can tell you anything about a Star Trek TNG episode and recite it as if it really happened, never varying my story.  Many people can do that with Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings, or any other work of fiction.  Being able to recite a narrative without changing it does not mean that narrative is real.

So he's not doing real science and research then?  ::)

Damn.

Claim:  As a child, Basiago went back in time to the Gettysburg address as part of a government program.  As a result of the time travel process, he arrived with no shoes.  A shoemaker took pity on him and gave a vastly oversized pair.  He then went to see the Gettysburg address where he overheard two women whispering he was a carpet bagger because of his ill-fitting clothes.  This photograph was then taken of Basiago with his oversized shoes at the Gettysburg address.

On closer inspection, the shoes don't look oversized to me.  I think it was a trick of light.  Maybe I'm wrong.

My conclusion:  Basiago is creating a narative based on an image, but I don't think it holds up.

Me too. OSOM has been so much fun, I'd hate to think it were a chore for him. :/

He's doing his own radio show 5 days a week for the first time ever at age *70*, and it's far more compelling and entertaining than Noory could ever hope to be. Uncle Hoags is awesome.

You know, you're absolutely right.  It sounds like Hoagie's frustrations may be rooted in technical issues; It was great to hear him talking about his old-timey skills doing shows in the planetarium for kids with an analog mixer and stuff, and comparing that to his trials here.

So glad Rossy is involved; makes the whole enterprise seem more solid.  If Hoagie had a wormhole I'd tell him don't sweat the technical issues, they're endearing.  And I don't even think I'm laughing at him ... much.  It's just part of his character.

Basiago also says that he used to time travel with Obama.  :o  That's where he lost me. I was willing to keep an open mind, but not after that remark. Also, who took the pic and how did he get his hands on it? Basiago has an overactive imagination.

Someone named David Bachrach (1845-1921), a commercial photographer.

Anthony, since you're a newbie, you should read this for a taste of what RCH does to challengers:

I got a little sad when he was talking about radio and how he hoped it would eventually become fun.  This morning's show was great fun for me; I hoped he was having a good time too.  Wild theories aside, he's well-read, uses words I haven't heard in years, has interests that are far broader than I imagined and  I've really grown to like the guy as a nutty uncle -- I guess that's what happens when you just listen to somebody for hours and get to know them.
I agree. He's winning me over gradually. The thing is he has a fascinating mind. Now if he could just say the word he's looking for rather than four or five synonyms it would go much faster.

Glad you had fun and I totally agree with your comments, today was fun... and tomorrow even better I am sure. ;D

Not to confuse things, Basiago will be on with Art and not Hoagland.

Haha I like his vocabulary, he's a walking thesaurus.  I'd say his mind is freakishly agile.  Last night we got to hear him put politics and transgenderism (!)  into the hopper and some fascinating stuff came out.

I get that astroguy and expat are worried some people will confuse his stuff with reality, but for me there are plenty of places to go in the daytime to learn cool science.  At night I want a retro-spacey fantasy trip, and Hoagie delivers.  Think of it as a mental exercise.

Do Hoagie's subscribers have a name, like time travelers for Art?

Not sure yet, we've been trying to think of one.

What do you guys think the name should be?

And no it's not gonna be Braapers haha

Arcologists?  I sure wish he'd use his thesaurus for that one.
