Listen dipshit, we can't do a fucking thing about what happened in the 1800's with the Indians. It happened and nobody is denying that. They're now a special class with rights simply because they are Indians. How many Cherokee do you know who look like Sequoia or like Sitting Bull? Most I see have an Anglo surname and blue eyes and don't know a fucking word of any native American tongue. Moving the goalposts ... bull fucking shit !!! I've seen a lot of drunk Indians. Who is forcing a bottle down their throat? They have casinos and the stupid Anglo/pale face is giving them money. Sounds sweet especially with the tax breaks and freebies they get. I am paying for government inflicted wrongs and I didn't have a thing to do with it.

As to blacks we've admitted the injustices inflicted on them. Now they are also a special privileged class sa far as I am concerned with every loophole and break the fucking government, who authorized their slavery through Manifest Destiny at one time.

You like "affirmative action" and EEO departments full of women and minorities looking for another rule or policy to apply every fucking day. The target - your white ass and my white ass. So get off this "we're so guilty" and "collective guilt". Take that social engineering/politically correct horseshit and shove it.

Those people, who think they've been 'dissed and I owe them, need to get off their lazy mother fucking asses and stop whining about things they didn't have to suffer. I don't owe those kind of people a fucking thing Onan - my relatives didn't migrate to this country until after 1900. When some mother fucking worthless cocksucker comes over to me and says I owe him something - I'll tell him to go fuck himself or just to suck my fucking dick.

Take your guilt - if you are in fact guilty of something Onan - and suck on it.

What I like isn't the argument. but again you are all over the place. I don't blame anyone for my setting in life but myself. I do realize at the same time I am indebted to so many I can't begin to enumerate. I don't resent that some woman may be my superviser any more than I do a guy or a black guy for that matter. If you don't have what you want then you have yourself to blame. EEO didn't suck your soul or take your paycheck.

I like your argument that it happened in the past. So did the other shit under the communism you talk about. I am not endorsing the evil there. I am just pointing out capitalism did similar things. It isn't guilt it is reality. But personally I am kinda glad you are as upset as you are. Pathology is it's own reward.

Zircon

I don't have a problem with a woman or a minority as a supervisor - only those who got the position due to that fact and didn't deserve it through hard work and competency. Before you begin, that same rule applies to white men as well in my book.

EEO and politically correct upper management did actually keep me from a promotion many years ago. The guy who got the management position was a South American, 26 years old and with three years of experience. Wasn't even a lead on his project. I maintained a massive production database system critical to the product being produced, had 14 years of experience, a MS degree and was 41 years old. So while I may not be worthy of a board membership I certainly had done more and proven more than our young friend from Colombia.

Yes, all that happened in the past plus communism. Mao may be dead but so are a lot of computer geeks in China committing suicide and a lot of political prisoners who wind up unwilling organ donors. That is communism. What about all of those political prisons in North Korea?

And yes, we love sweat shops/slave labor for many of our Wal*Mart products and fashions for young ladies. Also note that a person who probably shares your liberal political thoughts who runs Nike, loves slaves. I'm sure he is a member of any number of peace loving, human rights and environmental groups. We're guilty as well. I've mentioned these things and other examples of my disdain with people getting used. I'm no "business at any cost" and an "America! Fuck Yeah!" airhead.

And on a serious note, Onan, I am concerned for you ... please get a prescription for lithium.

Zircon

You know, there are a lot of people in this world who rationalize things this way. If they are not directly effected, they don't mind what goes on. In the case of the EEO and political correctness/affirmative action that I spoke of, people are promoted largely by not screwing up and then by their sex or race. Like I said, if a person is competent and actually is management material (in today's world that means they pose no perceived threat to the manager promoting them and will basically be grateful "yes" men or women) then they are placed in that position. It adds a buffer for them and gives them an ass to kick or fire if the need ever arises.

It extends into those folks with impressive 401ks and portfolios. If their stocks are doing well and they are convinced they're doing fine, they couldn't care less what happens to the economy. Many of these same people have children. They don't seem to be thinking about them too much as they are going to inherit a debt they can never pay off - an indentured servant for life with an ever increasing dependency on the government to cover for them and enable them to exist from one day to the next. Great future. Oh, and that assumes they can get a job - probably a federal job.

But here is a kicker. Your chances are far, far better if you're a minority, a woman (better be good looking or at least not unpleasant to look at), a homosexual (ask Amazon.com about their management ladder - if you're not gay it is hard to advance) or disabled.

Remember, veterans are now being considered by this administration to be "mentally ill" and "potential terrorists". Ask Homeland Security and Jane Napolitano (sp?). So having a couple of tours in Afghanistan might not be all that helpful.

Maybe starting to diverge a bit.

Jobs ... With our wonderful educational system that is more concerned about teaching you that Americans are a bunch of brutal imperialist ass holes, how to play class warfare and victimhood and how wonderful Muslims are, how evil Christians and conservatives are and how gay is the new normal - it is no wonder they don't know any mathematics, science or economics. They can't conceive what a "trillion" is - let alone 16 trillion. But they know what Lady Gaga is up to and who is on tour, their iPod, youtube and facebook accounts.

Oh, and since you pointed it out ... what do you suggest I do about my "pathology".

MV seems to think I'm making up my critiques of stuff around here, like yesterday when I oh-so-outrageously noted:

Stew in it.   Have lots of internal conversations about all the abuse, privation, and systemic injustices that White self-described Christian self-described "capitalists" have to suffer daily in America.   I just hope that, when the inevitable pathology-driven end comes, you don't take too many innocent people with you.

onan

OK Zircon, this is my last post on this. You often post stuff that has no credibility. You often cite the blaze as your source. Once you posted about euthanasia in England. Only to apologize for your misunderstanding about the reliability of the radio source. So it seems to me you like to inflame with baiting rhetoric. Are you a smart guy? yeah but you are also very one sided in your banter. I often follow up with a response that to some degree attempts to show the other side.

What started the name calling was your first jab about a quart of liquid with lithium. I followed with the moron choice from a question that really wasn't about choosing but selecting both answers.

You then suggested your valid concern for my mental health and proffered lithium as an aid.

So to put it in understandable terms. You seem to like to pander in a negative way with information that is just this side of delusional. And I think you really can't tell the difference. I believe you are convinced Obama is an agent of evil. That is different than thinking he is incapable of leading the country. Your posts often lean to the "the world will end" if another liberal takes a breath.

I guess your jab with lithium was intended to suggest I am either manic or bipolar. I am not, but even if I were that would not change the rhetoric. And your concern for me is not needed. Your potential to bring a fair minded discussion would be appreciated. I doubt you can do that.

Further, I remember you running off in a huff because you thought MV had somehow intentionally slowed your ability to post on the forum. Then after saying goodbye you suggested you would be a mosquito. But rather than be a minor nuisance, you returned to your style of ranting/baiting with overblown hyperbole (yes it is redundant... but it is for effect).

As to what you should do with your pathology. I have a few suggestions, get over yourself, attempt to balance your hatred for those not in lock step.

I am pretty sure this is going nowhere but in hopes there is some vestige of civility. I am also pretty sure you see me as the bad guy here. Either way it is time for me to quit engaging you... it gets neither of us anywhere.

Zircon

Whatever you want to do Onan. I don't have a problem with you. True, I do get feisty. Would like to continue comms with you but I think it best not to do so when it comes to politics. You're a decent poster and I'm sorry to have upset you. No, I certainly don't see you as a bad guy - not in the slightest.

Ben, I'm not taking anyone with me when the end comes. You, on the other hand, will be the one taking others out.

First, let me say that I have nothing personal against Paper*Boy, despite his efforts like in the post I'm about to reference.   PB, you occasionally bug me in these political threads, but I'm generally with you on the "Coast"-related stuff.   But in this latest attempt to school my sorry ass, you just served up too easy of a target, and asked for this.  You lobbed a slow one across home plate.  You didn't even walk into an ambush; you walked into my camp and surrendered.

There is an old saying that "it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."  In online forums, the choice is even easier.   "Silence" in a forum does not connote "foolishness" nor anything else; you're just not there.   Particularly in a thread where you have no early stake, "remaining silent" is just the default condition for the majority of forum members.   But when you choose to speak up, you take on all the weight of the topics under discussion, and you really should be up to the task, lest you "remove all doubt" of foolishness.

Monday night, our pal Paper*Boy spoke up, and removed all doubt.

I had earlier been trying to lead McPhallus out of a jumble of cartoonish political epithets and into real life when I admitted that:
Quote from: Ben Shockley on September 03, 2012, 09:32:55 PM
Actually, by training, I'm a "Weberian-Dahrendorfian" theorist...
which apparently so exercised Paper*Boy that he threw all notions of self-restraint and fact-checking to the wind, and, using exactly that quote from me as his necessary and sufficient cause, he by god waded in!
Quote from: Paper*Boy on September 03, 2012, 10:08:58 PM
Ok, so you are an adherent of an obscure branch of Marxism.

HUH?
No, Paper*Boy.
If you could have contained your zeal for just a bit, it shouldn't have taken more than a few seconds online searching to reveal that Max Weber and Ralf Dahrendorf were 2 of the most important, mainstream, and generally non-controversial social-science academics of the last 100+ years.   Unlike what PB went on to imply, those men had/have absolutely nothing to do with "murders of tens of millions, mass deportations, intentional starvations, [etc.]"   They were 2 academic figures who happened to shape my thinking particularly with regard to social conflict, and should be familiar at least by name to anyone who has ever been exposed to even Intro-level Sociology, or to higher levels of History, Political Science, or Economics.   You know: disciplines focusing on the kind of things that people in these political threads like to wax profound on and therefore, ideally, should know something about.   I dropped those names with the exact purpose of steering McPhallus' earlier labeling of me away from his Orwellianly-inaccurate "Fascist," past "Marxist," and on to some eponymous tenets (academic, not political) I actually have some connection to.

I'm not suggesting that anyone needs any particular type or level of education to post here, although one might expect that, given the level of passion that many people bring into the political threads --and the interpersonal stakes thus created-- they might have a little more knowledge about what they're spouting than just whatever "their gut tells them."  Especially since --as PB shows us-- "your gut" may be a better projector of your own prejudices about another poster than an interpreter of what he wrote.   So when you think you're using some reference (names in this case) as evidence for a real killing debate point against someone, you might do well to know just who the hell the names are, and whether or not they have a damn thing to do with the "therefore" part of your smashing argument.

Ok, you got me.  I have zero formal training in the intricacies of Marxist thought.  Or any desire to get any.  I did spend 5 months in PR China in 1986, HQ'd in Shanghai but mostly traveling around the rest of the country.  This was 3 years before the Tianamen Square incident, and I've seen enough of that system up close, first hand.  Absolutely unbelievably repressive - one friend built a tiny darkroon in his crummy apartment and developed film for his friends, a very small business.  He was arrested and grilled several times just in the time I was there.

I've been back a few times since, and have also visited Laos, Cambodia, and Viet Nam.  No one in any of these places is talking about this Weberian-Dahrendorfian stuff - they're just glad to be rid of all of it.   Too bad for them though, right?

1986 was the instant before China went fairly capitalist, with Deng was doing what he could to throw off that crap system.  A few places I visited were 'Special Economic Zones', places where tiny businesses were allowed to sprout - cafes, bike rentals, tiny shops, stuff like that.  Just the diference between those SEZ's and the rest of the country was astonishing - it didn't even take me the usual half a day to find a hotel room and another 3 hours to find somewhere to eat.  Trust me, no one I talked to thought that what they really needed to do was embrace Weberian-Dahrendorfian theory.

If you are truly curious, I recommend getting off campus and wintering in North Korea.  That's probably as close to PR China circa 1986 as you could find now.

But back to my original post.  It wasn't about the failure of Marxism, or ivory tower studies, it was about why you need to name call and insist the rest of us are racists.  Nice try changing the subject, I can guess why you don't want to answer the question, but since I reiterated it for another poster as well, you've had 2 chances to answer.  Should I put it down to PWI - posting while inebriated?

What the heck is it with Republican VP candidates?  Last time around, the walking punch line that was Palin torpedoed their chances, and now they have a pathological liar running.  Between the phony marathons, the phony marathon times, the lies about Obama speaking at a factory that was shut in the Bush presidency, and Clint "the furniture whisperer" Eastwood, this week may be the reason they loose what should have been a very winnable election.

Real cool, Daddio, and I salute you for whipping out that link.

It's fascinating, but very disturbing, to note how, in political threads in here, the wildest, most-noxious stuff from the right wing is accepted and considered just "good old healthy free speech," not requiring any citation nor any self-restraint, and oddly, not even seen as "political" by some posters.

BUT, almost any rejoinder to that kind of stuff --whether from "the left," or even just offered out of any sense of civility or regard for the truth--  is typically shouted down, mocked, called "gratuitously political," and generally portrayed as somehow beyond the pale of "the acceptable range" of "free speech," while the poster himself typically faces a range of jibes regarding (if not assaults upon) his patriotism, sexual orientation, sanity, and any other aspect of personality considered belittling in the right-wing world view.

In light of those usual responses, I actually also salute UFO Fill for having the politico-intellectual temperament to request that Daddio cite a source, rather than immediately jumping to the demonization of an opposing view, instead of the comparatively mild reflexive resort to dismissive patronization that Fill actually made (i.e., "Democratic party talking points," and the implication that such a label is automatic disqualification of whatever is so labeled).
