Not sure living in a high rise condo is the best environment for a small child either, Art mentioned on air a few years back that there were a number of Philippine families in Pahrump with children and that Airyn has made friends, the population is around 50,000 and growing, and close to Vegas so it's not exactly a small town in the middle of no where.

True dat!

Although it's great to finally hear from the big guy, it's still didn't answer the questions everyone is wondering. Why did he leave and will we hear him on the air again soon. Oh well, in time i guess.

Doesn't this sound like an allusion to Coast to Coast AM?

"At this point my baby is just starting out in life but I fully
understand that one day my baby will get older and make
her own way in the World, no doubt doing things I do not
agree with or sanction in any way.

That is life, babies never stay babies as much as we would like them to, they grow
and find their own way and even if we do not like the path
they have chosen we have to get out of the way and let
them make their own mistakes, much as it may hurt to watch.

All we can really do is our very best in trying to point them
in the right direction and hope.

It does not always work out
as we had dreamed and at the right time we have to let go."

Yes, it Does sound like an allusion to Coast.  Art has not even dropped one shoe yet, so we all get to wait further.  I'm very glad to know that he and entire family including cats are well and happy.

So what's going on? I see the Art Bell Show has picked up Coca Cola as a sponsor, well George deserves Shasta or Fanta, whatever Food For Less has for $1 a 2 liter! You know this UFO Geek guy reminds me of a guy who used to chime in now and again on the old 3840 Group Ham Net of Art's, a guy from Colorado! If so be honored by his presence, and Manila Throat would be close indeed! George Noory is SO BAD these days he should be covered by the USDA Meat Inspection rules on Downer Beef Cattle! It's coming, just know this Mr. Noory if you have the guts to monitor this site, do you hear the Jaws Theme? There's blood in the water, and it's not a reflection of a Red Mars, Richard C. Hoagland could tell us that much! The show is so stale that if it were bread, I could have used the mold to recover from the Strep Throat I got from a student of mine! It's coming like a Stuka Dive Bomber on your little village George, and you knew this man as the one who made you famous, the Man in Black from "the desert of the sea". Keep the hope and keep the monitor, the voice you hear, shall deliver you from Radio Death!

Fort Rock is a comedian all right, and now I see that he's even good looking...   Hey, Fort, let's play bumper stickers --Come to my new thread and post one, or two, or three.  Once you start, you can't stop forming them in your head. . .

Props to you, Marc, on that call.  When I read it, my first thought is that isn't Art Bell--must be a hoax.  You're explanation is exactly on point and further points out that our speculation about him having a gag order is probably correct.  We always knew Art would find a way, somehow, tapping out Morse Code or whatever.

Do you think he's reading Coast Gab?  He's answering us, not Fantastic Forum.  They're Noory ballwashers, as Fort Rock would say!

From what I've read over there they seem to think along the lines of the Coastgab crowd.  Maybe I missed the Noory love thread though.  With the interpretation of his post I thought the same thing when I first read it but I've never thought of Art as the type to side step something uncomfortable like that.  He's pretty much just said what's on his mind from my experience.  Good news about him possibly returning to the desert at least.   :D  If he's not feeling the radio itch right now I bet he will if he returns to the US.

Art's present environment in Manila is diametrically opposed to what he loves.  It is 100% non-Pahrump:  urban, crowded, dirty, tropical, humid, wet.  You can bet your booties Areyn did not like being so far from her family and in an arid climate and throw on top of that the government hassles.

Art Bell Fan, aren't you a ham radio operator or am I mixing you up with another poster?

Nope not a ham operator, that never interested me, nor do I care to listen to Art talk on ham, it is tech ham talk for the most part and boring.

I would say that is a bit of a stretch, a big stretch. If Art were going to talk about his reasons for leaving Coast I think he would have in his post, don't think he has any intention of doing so.

I see that Art Bell has finally posted a message over at Fantastic Forum. Dated: 02-18-11

Hi all,

From sunny Manila, Philippines

It has been some time since I posted here. All the ABs are
well, both types.....those with and those without fur. Asia
could not be better, she is nearly four Years old and smart
as a tack, she has been in pre-school now for a Year and is
doing so well it is scary.

At this point my baby is just starting out in life but I fully
understand that one day my baby will get older and make

We may return to the U.S. at some point for a visit or more,
who knows. Never say never right? I must say I am not sorry
to have missed the great Recession? the economy here is just
fine with GDP in the 7% range, we have a new President who
seems to be doing a great job and with Asia in school and so
many friends it is hard to consider a move, as most of you know
I love the Desert, it is majestic and very private but not the best
environment for a four Year old.

Ham radio is at last getting an assist from the Sun in a big way
with flares going on like crazy. My Ham call letters here are
4F1AB and I am mostly on 20 and 15 Meters talking to the
rest of the World.

I will try to post more frequently and keep you all up on the
latest from the Bell clan. I will always consider you all as
part of my Family.

Let the speculation begin!  I think Art is comparing the way the show has turned out under Noory to a child that strays from the approved pathway.  I will be interested to see the opinions of all on this message.

Thought this right away also, I think he made it pretty clear.  I'm assuming there are contractual reasons why he's speaking metaphorically instead of addressing it directly ??? I think Art is more outspoken than that.

I agree, that was the train of thought running through my mind as I read that post. I am just glad to see that he broke silence to let us all know he is ok (no impending medical issues, etc..).

Maybe.  But, perhaps that was his way to convey why he left.  He must know that is a major question for many of us.  I won't speculate beyond what I posted above, but it appears he was trying to make a point, beyond his 4 year old Asia.

Art tended to use "allusion", or indirect references a lot, bumper music, his cryptic web cam message... "hot air".  So it is part of his personality.

Regardless of all of the facts surrounding this, his statement gives us a glimpse into his inner decision making process as applied to anything he created.  C2C was his "baby", and he "let it go."

There`s no doubt in my mind that Art was being analogous. When I first read his post, I thought it extremely odd that he labored on about his "baby", and then I realized he was talking about his other baby.

I know it`s hard for Art -- a proud man and consummate professional -- to listen to George Noory and not feel frustrated.

Hang in there, Art. We love ya, and only want the best for you and your family. We`ll never forget the legacy you built.

I totally agree with you.

George Noory, the baby that turned out all wrong! That sadly sums it all up in a HUGE way! I could hear the horrific hurt in Art's voice crying out! Noory better be very worried right now! Art, it seems is highly interested still in radio, that's HUGE. Art does not hide his feelings very well, for a man who lived in Nevada with all of it's casinos, he would be a very poor Poker Player! His hurt reminds me of the days surrounding the rape of his son, and the sexual molestation accusation by Nashville Religious Shortwave Station WWCR. I've always sort of felt deep in my bones a connection between George Noory and those WWCR folks, through George's End Times writer's connections! I did not want to believe what my bones were saying, but I cannot ignore it anymore!! Art is ready to act now, for the best of everyone now I think! When he said "the desert is not a place for a 4-year old", he was playing on Nevada's status as the state with the highest accidental death rate amongst children. Something Art talked about back in the 1990's. THE CHILD IS GOING TO HAVE AN "ACCIDENTAL DEATH"! This is the gauntlet thrown in front of George! Art's coming back, bet the whole pension plan on it, and it's coming soon!

MV/Liberace!

when i read art's post, i thought it odd that he went to such lengths grinding away at the whole "baby growing up" subject.  it just felt out of place, protracted, and unexpected.  considering the context of EVERYTHING, i think the "allusion" assessment is right on the mark.  it's definitely an attempting at saying something without saying something.

I think Art was worried about this thread drying out, so he threw something out there to fuel our speculations! Just as I found my popcorn too!

That message was definitely an allusion. He finished talking about Asia in the first paragraph - she's doing fine.

onan

Until Art spells it out... dunno. Actually kind of bothersome that he hasn't spelled it out. I know noory isn't going to give any information... well he may drool something. I didn't mind cryptic messages in the movie National Treasure but I do not wanna play spy guy with the master decoder ring.

If Art can't (for whatever the reason) spill the beans... bleh mebbe it is time to find another resource. I hated when Coke changed its recipe, took me a while but now Mountain Dew baby.

MikeD

Short-time lurker, first-time poster (*POP!)

Yeah, he said it. The baby grew up and became a granola eater. Classy way to say it though honestly. I don't expect him to bash them really.

One could point out some people have several babies in case one ends up messed up. My dad still points out he could make another one if I don't work out, and I'm 28...ha!

bmd88

The "baby" clause is 100% allegorical.  It was crystal clear to me from the second I read it.  Anyone who doesn't think so is not very astute.  It is clear that he wanted to insert this extended metaphor before he composed/ thought of the rest of the letter, but he really didn't do so in such a "smooth" way (in my opinion).  It didn't fit with the rest of the narrative at all - his daughter is fine (only a toddler of course) - and it is 100% about Coast.

Here's how I take it:

"I fully understand that one day my baby will get older and make
her own way in the World, no doubt doing things I do not
agree with or sanction in any way."
  - I realize that the internationally renowned radio show I created from my sweat and tears will degenerate under the wishes and actions of Mr. George Noory, even though I told him what the listeners want and led by example for decades.

"Babies never stay babies as much as we would like them to" - Coast will never stay as good as it was when it first began, even though I wish it would.

"they grow and find their own way" - Coast has garnered more networks/ affiliates than ever, but is taking off in a direction I neither desired or would have taken it myself.

"even if we do not like the path they have chosen " - I do not like the direction Coast is heading, which was chosen by Mr. George Noory & company.

"we have to get out of the way and let
them make their own mistakes, much as it may hurt to watch."
- I have to step down as guest host all-together and let Mr. Noory and the rest take the show where they will, perhaps even destroying it to an extent, even though it kills me inside to watch/ hear it happen.

"All we can really do is our very best in trying to point them
in the right direction and hope."
- I have told George and the others what needs to be fixed, and now it's up to them to listen to me or not.

"It does not always work out as we had dreamed and at the right time we have to let go." - I think Coast could be beyond repair, even though I hoped it would not devolve into this, however, I must let go of the show and let what happens happen.

Basically, Art is saying I've tried my best for you all, I have told them what needs to be fixed, they won't do it, so f--- it, if they destroy it, it is on them and it makes me sad to see it happen this way.

Just my take.

ourobouros2k2

Totally respect the fact that he doesn't wish his name to be attached to the ongoing trainwreck the show has become. Whatever the realities are surrounding his departure, he did it on his terms and he did it his way. Gotta love that about it, even if it means we may not hear from him again in the coast-like capacity. In all fairness though, I never viewed the Art guest-hosted shows as the same show with Noory at the helm. Might have shared the same name, but never once did I mistake it for the same content.

That really sums it up. We have all said it more than once... Art was the show. His ability to bring us into his show. Using so many strategies, I am not sure he even knew he was doing it. Telling us of gluing his lips, smoking a cigarette backwards, checking and shutting off the alarm during a show... Not to mention his natural talent to ask questions that allowed us to see where he was going... truly a talent.

I guess my only opinion of Art that is less than a positive it would be this conjecture: I think Art believes he was/is a man of mystery and I do not see that. I think Art was very astute at finding something not so rare and showing us the mystery that may have been easily dismissed.

Anyhoo, I want Art to return and I do not see any reason he could not. Heck he could call the show "baking with raisins" and we would all be there because we know he would make it work. His salute to the passing of the torch tells me more about not really wanting to return than it does anything else. The allusion seems to be a resignation of the "what are ya gonna do" variety.

Thank you- especially coming from someone who knows Mr. Bell and his ways much deeper than I do. One thing's for sure - Art is master of the allegory. Every word in that paragraph tells volumes without telling volumes - a true sign of a sharp mind.  He may be getting older, but I'm entirely assured that he could host a new program for a decade if he so chose. One can only hope - I wouldn't put it past him!  ;)
