I just saw "Dreams of a Life", the Joyce Vincent story.

I think this is one of the best examples of a sociopath I've seen.

This woman's body was found in her apartment 3 years after she died... She had multiple groups of friends all of whom knew her by a different name, so nobody reported her missing...  FOR 3 YEARS!  This is a really sad and fascinating watch.

It sounds interesting, but all I can find online is trailers.   Link?  Or did you watch the DVD?

Its on netflix, I think.  There are many, shall we say, foreign sites where you can stream as well.

I just watched this on PBS and it was great. Death and the Civil War on American Experience:
http://youtu.be/goFFVg0T4e0

Edit: I cannot tell if the link is there because all I see is a big blank area. It is available on YouTube for anyone who is interested. And here is a written intro/description of the film:

This series is on my netflix playlist. Looking forward to it!

I'm part way through the PSB series Ken Burns "The West". It's pretty good so far, but
It's heartbreaking how the young USA treated the native populations.

Disturbing doc: "Terms and Conditions May Apply"
Terms and Conditions May Apply Documentary with Cullen Hoback

Anyone ever read the T&C when you download an free app or program? It's horrifying what is  in the fine print these days! The vast majority just click ok to accept the terms. Who has time to read endless pages of legalese.
One company added a "soul" clause to see how many people actually read them.  thousands of people forfeited their immortal souls!

"Brother's Keeper" was a good documentary and movie. And pretty bizarre.

I haven't watched this documentary yet, and I know she was popular, but check this story out:  http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/17/us/ohio-mummified-body/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

"What the Dambusters Did Next"

Awesome show and hearing some of the stories of the people involved (on both sides) was excellent. Lots of history that I was not familiar with.

They didn't happen to talk about Wing Commander Gibson's dog, did they?

Trigger... that's what they called him.

Retrospectively.

The Imposter was indeed excellent. I had no idea what it was and just watched it out O the blue, so the surprise was great. I'll check out the other one you mentioned.

I suggest Sound City.

YES!
Very good doc about So Cal studio with an epic sounding live drum room and unique Neve 8028 mixing console!

Great doc!

http://tiny-themovie.com/

Haven't watched the doc, but I find the subject increasingly offensive. First of all, the tiny house movement has been aggressively pushed for the last ten years on sites like boingboing, etc. which by definition means it's the purview of over-or-unnecessarily-educated upper middle classers; in other words people who really don't need to scale dawn in terms of room or finances and who instead are attracted to the novelty of the trend; note that many of these small houses cost upwards of $15/20,000 which in this economy will buy you a three storey 3000sq ft house with property in just about any rust belt city.

Secondly, I think that by making this sort of thing likeable or cute or desirable it's little more than a way of conditioning the public to have lower expectations. Not to get all Alex Jones about it, but I think there's plenty of precedent for that point of view. Of course, when we're all living in micro-apartments none of them will be as nicely outfitted as these tiny houses we see online... think more along the lines of a honeycomb from which we wake and shuffle to the assemly line and to which we return 12 hrs later to collapse to sleep. Good times.

You can still see the real version on t.v. with the affectionately named dog still in it, sometimes. Though Obama might've had it banned. The reality was far different from the movie and what the division and people did after is really awesome and worth watching. Especially the interviews with the remaining survivors (on both sides) of various raids.

True but then you'd have to put up with feral cats, dogs and children.  The occasional meth lab explosion.  Gun fire.  Neighbors who have been ground down to a stub of a human from years of poverty induced stress, lack of health care, alcohol and drug abuse, etc.

I'd take my $20,000 house and build it on a big tract of land out in the boondocks.  Quieter and less likely to get ventilated by a gun purchased at a gun and knife show.

Gee, that Obama, eh?

MV/Liberace!

I watched Dear Zachary last night. I felt sick to my stomach after that one. It was the first thing I thought about when I woke up today. Just a horribly depressing story.

Just ran across an documentary that Bellgabers will probably enjoy watching.  Didn't know quite where to post it, so I'm doing so here.

Just looking at the vid preview image tells me this is overly optimistic

I_Speculate

Clinton Cash, is a feature documentary based on the Peter Schweizer book that the New York Times hailed as “The most anticipated and feared book of a presidential cycle.”

Clinton Cash investigates how Bill and Hillary Clinton went from being “dead broke” after leaving the White House to amassing a net worth of over $150 million, with over $2 billion in donations to their foundation. This wealth was accumulated during Mrs. Clinton’s tenure as US Secretary of State through lucrative speaking fees and contracts paid for by foreign companies and Clinton Foundation donors.

MV needs bellgab users to watch this.  He says it has some relation to Falkie.  I still need to watch it before I can have any comment...

You're fast WOTR!  Thank you. ;)

I finally finished it.  It probably ought to be required watching for anybody posting in the Falkie thread.

While there are a number of parallels between Chandler and Senda, there are some major differences.  I do not believe that Senda is actually mentally challenged (nor autistic.)  That said, there is defiantly something not quite right- and I would not say that he is going to win any intellectual awards anytime soon.  I think I had mentioned in the past that I suspected the persona was an act... And then came a video showing his apartment...

Both Senda and Chandler have a severe problem with oversharing.  Both trust internet "friends" with their secrets and pay the price.  Neither one appears to ever learn (though the documentary did not mention if Chandler kept bringing his trolls back into his life over and over and over...  Both would benefit greatly if they walked away from the net and went outside instead (and did not come back to produce a video later.)

A cautionary tale for sure.  I just checked this dude's (?) Youtube channel, (cue Q Lazzarus' Goodbye Horses), and another site has suggested this poor bastard may have pierced his own flesh in the hopes of developing a vagina.   :o

If you want to see pictures of it go to kiwi farms forum. There hasn't been any taint updates recently Chris is still making videos and posting on facebook.

Appreciate the invite miku, but I think I'll pass on the pics.  I've watched a couple Falkie vids this week and that's about as much disgust as I can take.  I see the poor, confused guy has taken to begging for money on his vids to help with his mom's dental needs, perhaps he could take some lessons from the master of grift.  Can you imagine these two personalities hooking up?  Yeesh.... :o

There are obvious parallels with Falkie. Most come to watch the train wreck, but stay to see the train pull the spikes out of the rails.

It is a thing!  I had no idea.  On a superficial level (I'm no student of Falkieology, nor of mental health), it's the same phenomenon -- online oversharing, grandiosity, gullibility, clutter, self-indulgence, flouting standards of appearance on the one hand (which you'd think would indicate someone unconcerned with others' perceptions, i. e. a rugged individualist) but extreme sensitivity on the other.

That Susan Boyle my mom kept trying to get me to watch was diagnosed with Asperger's.  I bet you could find a professional to put Falkie somewhere on the spectrum if you looked hard enough -- whatever he's suffering from is pathological in the loosest sense of the word, causing harm to his well-being.

At risk of incurring the wrath of Onan (I hope it's not in the biblical sense), it seems to me that the use of the term "diagnosis" in this area has more in common with older classification systems than it does with, say, a cancer diagnosis.  It does little to explain the mechanism or indicate a clear course of treatment.  It's a lot more like in the old days when you might excuse someone's inappropriate fits of anger by saying he was choleric, and people would nod their heads and pretend that meant something useful.

Does anyone know if Falkie was a weird, precocious, bullied kid?
