Mark Levin, The Great One

I have actually enjoyed listening to Mark Levin on a regular basis.  It did get a little boring when he went on and on about his dog Sprite and the subsequent book describing the ordeal.  He tends to mirror some of Savage's mannerisms.  The two actually trade barbs about each other from time to time on-air.

Eddie Coyle

Savage thinks there's only room for one diminutive, screaming right wing Jew on the air. Levin sees "Weiner" as a fake conservative. They really do seem to disike each other, Savage making references to "a Groucho Marx soundalike".

But Savage clearly rips off Howard Stern in the sense that he always demeans other hosts-especially conservatives, with the tactic of "not knowing their name" or having a derisive nickname for them,Hannity is "Wall Banger", O Reilly is the "Leprechaun"

The insult to Hannity as "Wall Banger" is illustrative,IMO. Hannity's background in a masculine,blue-collar job seems to unnerve Weiner who collected plants in the Pacific.

levin doesn't like savage because savage routinely makes fun of hannity and rush.  savage is a total outsider.

JustOneFix

I can't stand to listen to Levine because of his voice. I know that's shallow & superficial but that nasally whine of his is enough to make me turn off the radio and play MP3's instead.

C110

Can't stand Savage.  Most of his shows are just him babbling and babbling about nothing.  Also can't stand how he will just talk in circles non stop.  I don't like the way he over emphasizes his New york accent.

He is always bitching about San Fransisco..............If its that bad MOVE!

I also can't stand his callers that call in and cower in front of him like he is some great prophet or the callers that refer to him as Doctor.  The only people that I refered as Doctor are the ones that have a MD behind their name, PHD doesn't count in my book.

Does Savage have a nickname for Levin?

Also calls him "Groucho Marx's Grandmother" and "Groucho Marx with a hysterectomy"

I can't stand it when hosts talk about their dogs.  Seriously, who the fuck do you think cares?
Levin talks about Sprite, Savage talks about Teddy.  Shut up about your dogs.

I agree, once or twice is ok, but almost every show.... :P

Correction: San Franfreakshow. Or San Fransicko. ;)

Dog talk is really boring. The last time I heard him he was promoting his book about his childhood and told his dog in the dumpster story frequently. It got old fast.

The General

I like how the Mark Levin thread morphs into a discussion about Savage.
That really tells you a lot right there.

The General

Wow, what a shallow, jealous little guy.

HAL 9000

I am an unabashed Mark Levin fan. I have every show he's ever done since his syndication went national. He is a Constitutional Originalist and Scholar, attorney, served in a number of legal positions during the Reagan administration, and is now in private practice and president of the Landmark Legal Foundation.

He has told the story many times about how, when he was a very young attorney (22-23) he was tapped to serve by the Reagan administration. He was a complete noob, and walked into the building where his office was located, and found numerous cases of books, left in the building by the Carter administration. I am fairly certain he was serving in the Department of Education at the time. These books were slated to be distributed to schools throught the U.S. The name of the hundreds/thousands of books he found?

Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky.

It took me a while to get used to him, as with many good shows (TV or radio). Though I'm not a "pet" guy, Levin is a dog lover, and has donated tremendous amounts of money to animal shelters.

Ruteger

"Liberty and Tyranny" is a MASTERPIECE. On my second round of listening to the audio book. Levin knows his stuff. A great read.

onan

Levine is an ass.

Same old strategy that all pompous windbags use (both sides) angry disdain for opposing ideas.

Here is a short transcript from ole mark... He is Host.
CALLER: I just wanna say, Obama is a lot smarter than you folks give him credit for. You guys were on a roll, I have to admit, with all those tea parties. Everything was rolling along, the Republicans were gaining momentum. And he managed to change your entire conversational focus. And you let those three hundred thousand people â€"

HOST: My God. He’s so smart. His own party voted against him on Guantanamo Bay. How stupid was that, Cindy? His own party refused to fund the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

CALLER. Yeah but you know he can just move those people over here anyway. He’s already doing it with the one guy.

HOST: Yeah, sure, he can do whatever he wants. Let me ask you a question. Why do you hate this country?

CALLER: No, I love this country.

HOST: (angrily shouting) I SAID WHY DO YOU HATE MY COUNTRY! WHY DO YOU HATE MY CONSTITUTION? WHY DO YOU HATE MY DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE?

You just said it. He can blow off Congress. He can do whatever he wants, right?

CALLER: Well, he seems to, he just moved (inaudible).

HOST: Answer me this, are you a married woman? Yes or no?

CALLER: Yes.

HOST: Well I don’t know why your husband doesn’t put a gun to his temple. Get the hell out of here.

What a scholar.

haloedorchid

He sounds like those shouting blowhards John and Ken. Instead of a rational, thought out response, he just yells and makes personal insults. I'm done with the over-the-top bullshit from talkshow hosts for a while. I'm surprised none of them have stroked out on air before.

Eddie Coyle

In a perfect world, any talk show host who feels a need to scream incessantly would be stricken with an instant case of incurable laryngeal cancer.

We don't live in a perfect world, so these assholes will continue to yell and remain alive. So I'm doubly disappointed.  :'(

Fly By Night

Both of these guys sell entertainment first, then political dialogue second. If you want a less yelling, but very intelligent conservative radio then listen to Dennis Prager

onan

So suggesting someone's spouse would be better off shooting themselves is entertainment? Good times.

Fly By Night

Yep, shock sells. May not be a good thing, but people find shock entertaining. Ask Mr Stern

haloedorchid

Everything is sold on shock value these days. It's not only talk radio. Most previews for new shows feature shocking images... it's also given rise to the uncut/deleted scene DVDs. Music lyrics, videos. Maybe it's always been that way, but it gets tiresome after a while.

onan

To even post the contention of "may not be" is unsettling. To consider the suggestion of putting a gun to your head for opposing viewpoints is sociopathic. To dismiss as entertainment is lazy thinking.

Fly By Night

"May not be" was not for the lone gun comment, it is an universal reason behind why people make  shocking statements. I think it goes well beyond saying that suggesting homicide or suicide is very wrong. And if I'm being lazy I would be interested to why you think people say things like that.

It's always been that way, but unfortunately what was shocking last year is a bore this year.  Elvis shook his hips on TV and now we have songs called "Fuck You," and it even wins a grammy.  Not because it's such an amazing song, but because it's called "Fuck You."  Unbelievable.   Or how the media is obsessed with bizarro shit, the weirder the better, and getting weirder every day.  A lot of these things NEVER would have happened till now.  For example, our parents or grandparents generation would never even have TALKED about gay marriage let alone turn it into some kind of issue that needed to be rectified.  It really makes me worry about what kind of fucking-in-the-streets we're in for in the future.  It's either that or an extreme fundamentalist backlash is just around the corner.  So get a prayer rug ready.  And stock up on condoms and lube.  Either way, you're prepared for the ass-raping that's coming down the pike.

This would not surprise me at all. In my own life, I've noticed a surprising number of male friends, family members, and co-workers have expressed disgust over extremely sexualized media images. I think growing up in an era of instant porn and t&a on demand has backfired. Now people want some mystery.

Hopefully the violence backlash will come soon, too.

General- I think shocking goes in waves and is hard to define. While our grandparents would be shocked at gay marriage, at that same time it seemed normal that blacks and whites had to use separate restrooms and drinking fountains. Before that it seemed fine that blacks were slaves. Before that people were being burned at the stake because someone decided that they were a witch. Let's not even talk about what happened in medieval times. Shocking will always be around, it just takes different forms. Humans clean up one type of shocking only to make a new one which leads into your question about the sick shit of the future. Sadly, I think the fucking sky is the limit.

I don't think that these are valid comparisons, though.  Segregation wasn't done for shock value.  Nor was witch burning.  Those things emanated out of misguided cultural and religious fervor.  Integration was shocking, but that was progress, not done for shock value alone.  Writing a song called "Fuck You" is done entirely for shock value.

Gay marriage, while not motivated strictly by shock value, stems from a culture that is out of touch with reality because of the no-holds-barred sexual revolution where it doesn't even matter anymore to call marriage between a man and a woman.  So, in my opinion, it's different from cultural change of the past.

Fly By Night

That's true. I guess I'm looking at what society accepted in the past such as segregation, and thinking that humankind was once fine with that- so what insane inspiration with be hatched in the future that will be improperly accepted. And is shock value a doorway to accept it.

BTW I agree the segregation and thinking people are witches may not be Solely to shock others, but the actions those groups did was for shock/fear value. If they really wanted to get rid of witches they could have done it in private, but they did public burnings. Like the public hangings, like the public cross burnings of segregation. Bringing up anti-Elvis thoughts of the 40's while public acts of segregation is going on is just another her example of the hypocrisy of mankind.
