Can we get a poll of the political parties of posters here?

PUD, I just want to say I too usually vote Democrat.  I have been really happy with Obama, the way he made settlements for monies the government owed to tribes for healthcare treaty violations, and settling with descendants of slaves over legitimate grievances.  National health care opened up a lot of jobs.  I especially saw a lot of middle aged people, many women and women of color, peddling the new marketplace.  Of course I benefitted from it and it has saved lives.  I loved how Michelle redesigned the food pyramid to fit on a plate, reducing the perception of how much food is acceptable.

Obama was the first president I ever loved.  I never had much interest in the White House previously.  But, because of his example, I decided to Google the White House and see how the people there live.

Regarding the purchase of White House china, new First Ladies select a China pattern.  But, according to the news article I read, Barbara Bush waited until the last minute before leaving the White House to order her China.  According to the article, this may have been done to spite Michelle.  Michelle mentioned nothing about it but it and handled herself with dignity and grace.  After that awkward situation passed, Michelle chose a beautiful China pattern to do with Hawaii.  White House china sets cost hundreds of thousands of dollars each, and are paid for by a private organization.  Here is a photo of samples of the Obama's china pattern:

The teal blue is a new addition to a prior collections.  The cups look stackable - very practical.

I wonder if the President and spouse get to choose their own sheets!

Last year the lady Democrats here did some very special volunteer work to help women in need at Christmastime.  They were not lavish, but their quality efforts were loving, and much appreciated.

Sometimes I have come to this thread and cited links and achievements of the previous administration, but it seems to be fruitless, as adults usually already have their minds made up.  So, best wishes in these contentious, potty-mouthed debates over what could be civil civics!

Barbara Bush left the White House in January 1993. Michelle Obama moved in in January 2009. Great story bro.

Someone probably twisted the facts. Laura showed off her china after it had been delivered on January 7, 2009.  Meaning it had to have been ordered long before.

Since it was a custom design and all hand painted I am sure it was ordered years in advance.

Ugh!  Really?   If it were not for women like my wife, I'd be all in for repealing the 19th Amendment.  I'm glad you are so concerned about the important issues of the day. ::)

Obama did not say anything on Wednesday about holding any USDA employees accountable for the alleged discrimination. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told CNSNews.com earlier that holding employees accountable for past discrimination is not a focus of the administration. Moreover, in the settlement agreement, the USDA denies any wrongdoing.

Obamacare has cost roughly 300,000 small business jobs due to higher health care costs, according to a new report.

Anecdotal, but perhaps true also.

QuoteOf course I benefitted from it and it has saved lives.

Personal anecdote accepted, however:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/09/12/obamacare-cuts-to-hospitals-will-cost-seniors-their-lives.html

President Obama is wooing seniors with promises to protect Medicare as they've known it. On the defensive because of the $716 billion his health care law takes from Medicare, Obama assures seniors he's cutting payments to hospitals and other providers, not their benefits.

Don't be bamboozled. It's illogical to think that reducing what a hospital is paid to treat seniors won't harm their care. A mountain of scientific evidence proves the cuts will worsen the chance that an elderly patient survives a hospital stay and goes home. It’s reasonable to conclude that tens of thousands of seniors will die needlessly each year.

QuoteObama was the first president I ever loved.

Oh dear oh dear...he's the American Trojan horse and he almost took this nation down.

It's a shame you can't see the tremendous mess he made of this nation, even he has admitted he went way too fast for the American peoples' tolerance.

And he did.

Trump created the present situation. What kind of shitty situation are they escaping that they prefer to go to a country where the president calls them rapists? He's a pile of shit.

If anyone other than the illegal aliens themselves created the ''present situation'', it was Obama.  He's the one who decided to stop enforcing the law.  He's the one who decided to invite anyone in Latin America who wanted to come here and sign up for benefits and to (Pssst!) vote.  He's the one who illegally decreed new immigrations laws.

As far as Trump calling them rapists and criminals, many are.  Or do you have another explanation of why a third of our prison population is comprised of illegal aliens?  Really, I'd like to know.

In Mexico we have drug cartel members, gang members, and various criminals coming here to expand their territory and for easy pickings of the stupid gringos.  In Central America we have drug distributors, gang members and various criminals coming here to expand their territory and for easy pickings of the stupid gringos.  Anyone who disputes this is an idiot.  Why you don't get it, and would rather follow politicians who put their party before the safety of Americans is anyone's guess.

Trump didn't say ALL were rapists.  Anyone repeating that once they know better is a shill and a liar.  You really ought to find another source of news and information.  For someone who talks about lying all the time - the media you consume and the party you prefer lie orders of magnitude more than Trump does or ever could.  And you repeat it.  Doesn't that bother you?

Quote from: Yorkshire pud on June 14, 2018, 06:22:20 PM
Call me whatever you like, it's the USA that is losing its reputation. You might think it doesn't matter, keep thinking that. But soon enough if it continues the only 'friends' the USA will have will be the ones who currently own Trump. How come the world can see that, but the Trump cult can't? I suppose 'cult' is the answer why.

Well, no one owns Trump, so according to you we won't have any friends left.

Guess what?  No one is our friend anyway unless they are benefitting from it.  Either under our defense umbrella, or benefitting from trade, or benefitting in a thousand other ways.  So to ''unfriend'' us would be to spite themselves - and greedy cowards that so many of them are, they aren't going to do that.

But lets say they do, that being insulted by Donald Trump is worthy of cutting themselves off completely.  You don't think relations would thaw over time, or almost immediately after a new president is elected?

I think we've been being taken advantage of for decades by our ''friends''.  Even our fellow Western NATO ''allies'' - who certainly have the money - aren't contributing their fair share to the alliance.  Money THEY agreed to.  They aren't treating our exports fairly either.

So, you know, they can fuck off if they want.  If they don't need us, why stay in the alliance at all?  And the same goes for trade.  And for our other allies who aren't doing their part on trade and security issues.  You're all fortunate we see you as forward positions and buffers against our true enemies.  And that we benefit from trade more than we lose

Maybe we need a non-politician to break a few eggs and insult a few egos for a term or two

No, he didn't.

He changed the way the statistics are reported so that people turned around at the border are now counted as ''deported''.  He actually deported very few.

I've twice linked the LA Times article for you to read for yourself (this is the third).  That you now know better but are still repeating it makes you a what?  Obama changed the way the stats are collected to fool the nation.  Turns out he fooled the low information idiot Democrats such as yourself as well

I agree with the concept but have some concerns about 6 liberal senators. Not sure how the demographics are laid out. How many representatives would they end up with?  California as a whole is limited now. Do the total number of representatives go up as well?

Quote from: 21st Century Man on June 14, 2018, 08:40:34 PM
I don't like the proposed geographical boundaries of the split.  LA and some of the coastal counties as one is a good idea but really need San Franfreako included in that particular state.  I know the Jeffersonian conservatives in Northern California don't want to be stuck with those freaks.  I wouldn't vote yes on this particular initiative.

It looks like they tried to reshape Cali into 3 states with fairly even populations.  Last time around it was 6 proposed states.

The problem is the state is too big to be governed like a one party banana republic, but they've managed to import enough foreigners to permanently skew the vote.  Poor illegal immigrants living on handouts are always going to vote D.  People from places like China, Viet Nam, India, etc have no concept of a government system that places personal responsibility on it's citizens and encourages opportunity instead of deciding outcomes - so they vote what they know.

New states would of course each have two US Senators.  If gerrymandered and done wrong, that would skew the US Senate and put it on a more Socialist path.

The only thing I would vote for is for one new state to be comprised of the northern counties - and NOT include the Bay Area or Sacramento.  A second state would be the southern counties, not including LA.  The third new state would be the coast from the Bay Area to LA, and would include the corridor from the Bay Area to Sacramento.

The Libs can have the capital, wine country, SF, Oakland, Berkeley, Silicon Valley, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, LA, Disneyland, Hollywood and the beautiful coast down to just below LA.  The other states would be the nearly unpopulated northern part of the state (above SF and Sacto), the Central Valley farming areas, the Sierra Nevada range (including Tahoe, Yosemite, etc), and San Diego.  Don't worry, we'd probably sell you food and water.  Deal?

Thing I don't "get" is why people come here if they hate it? Why people don't move? Why people want to change/control people or things? If I go to a country club or something and don't like the people, staff, or whatever (or they don't want me) I don't demand change but say 'screw that I don't want to join there.' But not demand changes per my ideals or run amok protesting.Travel to some country and food sucks or people are shiftless or dirty. I say "no more vacation there" or "not a good place for business." But don't demand they change their culture. You don't like a certain church or tv show, don't attend or watch. Not try force your views on them. Check out how much of a guaranteed income you need to have to be able to immigrate to Belize or even Honduras. When I was considering buying a place in Roatan in 2007, you had to prove you had a guaranteed income of at least $35,000 per year to immigrate there.

I don't think the replacement plan will work, but smart. I get why countries would wamt to export the dregs and import productive people. I seem to recall somewhere down there a possible "private" autonumous city being planned? Some have been tried in past but this was gonna be like totally private, non-govt jurisdiction (or very, very light?) Not sure if happening? Govt make money from tax but control was private to get good, non-native, and rich to live?

I don’t know. I tried to figure out how to buy a small resort spa on its own tiny island. It had a pretty loyal clientele (almost entirely gay) and it was set up like a bed & breakfast with 5 or 6 rooms and a couple of massage areas. It was listed at $1.4 mil in 2008. That included all furnishings, the business and the buildings and boats. The political unrest that happened while I was setting up the financing kinda ruined that whole idea.

He also had 76 months of reduced unemployment, so that balanced that out.

Small companies are great.  I've worked for them.  However, companies with less than 50 employees were not required to offer medical insurance to employees.  Is that something our society wants, people working full-time yet not getting group rates on insurance?  Small companies don't always pay very well.  They, small businesses, can get a better deal on insurance for employees than the employees themselves could.

I understand some people like students and some spouses don't need employer coverage.  But offering it should be the default.

The possible exception is Mexico.  Their government tells them our southern states were stolen from them, and they know before arriving they're not supposed to assimilate, fit in, etc, which is then enforced by racist groups like La Raza (The Race), Democrat politicians, and Spanish TV and radio.

Odd them, isn't it, that no one is sneaking INTO Cuba.  Well, perhaps a few Venezuelans who are starving in their shithole.  (By the way, it's estimated 1 Venezuelans fled to Columbia over the past year.  It must be a real head scratcher for you, with everything you could ask for being implemented there).

We're such a racist, evil, uncaring country, no doubt more head scratching by the international left as to why people have been flooding into our country since, well, since the Reagan Revolution.  And yet these same America-haters aren't moving out.  Weird.

Why would anybody want to live in Cuba when you have a blockade to 'prove' communism doesn't work? You have to do this, just as you have to smear Europe. You don't want people to realise that socialist policies work, more or less, so you con the ignorant into believing otherwise. Yeah, Venezuela, nice one. As Marx would have pointed out, countries like that change too fast and don't pass through a bourgeois industrial phase. So of course they fuck up.

The success of America (something you appear to want to throw away now) is due to a combination of natural resources and mass immigration. Mainly immigration.

The Trump administration will place tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese goods, threatening to turn a spat with Beijing into a full-blown trade war
Friday, June 15, 2018 8:22 AM EST

The Trump administration said that it would move ahead with imposing a 25 percent tariff on $50 billion of Chinese products that are imported into the United States, threatening to escalate what had primarily been a war of words between the world’s two largest economies into a full-blown trade war.
